    Just gonna chime in here--

Here is when I started to dislike "Mitt" and realized he had no common sense:

    http://animalrights.about.com/b/2007/06/30/romney-blasted-for-driving-with-family-dog-on-top-of-car.htm

"Romney Blasted for Driving with Family Dog on Top of Car

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney admitted he took the family dog on vacation, but instead of traveling safely inside the car with the rest of the passengers, the Irish Setter named Seamus rode on the top of the vehicle. After the 12-hour road trip from Boston to Ontario, there was dog poop (call it fecal matter or excrement, if you wish) on the roof and windows of the station wagon.

Yes, Romney did have the dog in a carrier, but that would not have protected Seamus from airborne road debris that could have struck the dog at high speed. If a vehicle traveling in front of you kicks up a pebble, you know how much damage that can do to your windshield. Imagine if that rock hit your dog in the face. Or worse, what if the restraints failed and the carrier was flung from the vehicle onto the road. Common sense tells most of us that this is just not a safe or humane way for animals to be transported.

According to a Time/CNN article, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has taken Romney to task since the incident came to light. In the report, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said: "...it is commonsense that any dog who's under extreme stress might show that stress by losing control of his bowels: that alone should have been sufficient indication that the dog was, basically, being tortured."

The former Massachusetts governor later said his dog "enjoyed" riding in the rooftop carrier and dismissed PETA's criticisms, stating that the organization is "not happy that my dog likes fresh air." Animal rights and animal welfare groups have criticized Romney in the past for quail hunting and for including a rodeo exhibition as part of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, while he was CEO of the International Olympic Committee.

In some states - including California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island and Virginia - it is illegal for animals to be transported unsafely, such as in the back of pick-up trucks. In fact, according to Massachusetts law, it is illegal for anyone to carry an animal "in or upon a vehicle, or otherwise, in an unnecessarily cruel or inhuman manner or in a way and manner which might endanger the animal carried thereon." Animal cruelty investigators reportedly said that Romney's actions could have been illegal but that the statute of limitations has probably run out on the 1983 incident."

Now, gotta run and watch the debates. . .

Shirley I told you! He is Buzz Lightyear!

You know what I love is when the people from the candidate's states pop in and give us the inside scoop!

I believe that Al Gore will endorse Obama. There was a lot of bad blood between the Clintons and Gore at the end there.

BTW-I DID see the candidates on local news.McCaine has  jawline on one side which seems swollen.

And my poor candidate has this nasty flu which is going around, I bet.He is pale, and his poor nose is pink.

Gawd, it must be SO hard to campaign continuously, especially during flu season.

Isnt anyone going to come back tonight and crit the debate?

Just a little more perspective from the Land of Lincoln. Obama cut his teeth on Chicago politics, where nothing is done without back room deals. Remember, it was all those dead democrats that Mayor Daley #1 managed to ressurrect just in time to vote for JFK. I could spend hours telling you about all the deals that have gone on in Chicago, but it will bore you. The number of pols in jail in our state probably outnumbers the murderers. The Chicago Tribune has done a good job reporting everything. Wait til you start hearing about this militant church Obama belongs to. Very scary. Eventually, all the news will come out. Then we move on to Springfield where Obama never cast a vote because he did not want to take sides, lest someone later on calls him on it. Notice how he rarely shows up for senate votes? He does not want anything to be a matter of public record. He is not the savoir some may think, and if most of us who he supposedly represents, have no idea who he is after 3 years in the senate, how in the world can we trust him to make a decision to lead the whole country. I agree he is a nice guy. I truly wanted to like him when he was elected senator, but I just cannot trust him. Jimmy Carter was a nice guy, who I regretted voting for because he never could get anything done, except make us look weak to the world. Remember the hostage countdown? If we look weak, the extremists will eventually take over the middle east and we will have a total economic collapse, which is what they want to do because they know they cannot beat us any other way. Anyway, I am so glad that McCain is finally getting the votes he deserves. He is strong on defense, and open minded on domestic policies. He is a centrist, willing to work with both sides, and that is just what our country needs.

How can anyone think Obama is cute? To me, he is right up there with Honest Abe when it comes to faces you wouldn't like to wake up to. We do have some cute guys here!

By the way, a BC question: How long does it take before this fog lifts? I finished rads last week and I am feeling great, exercising and eating healthy, but I feel like such an oaf. I love salads, but hate to do all the chop chop, but I was a good girl and made this great salad for lunch today, and then for no reason, just dropped in on the floor! I have no idea how it happened. Total space out. Fortunately, I caught the plate before it broke, but I had to make the salad all over again! I was very tempted to just eat a bag of nachos! Is being a klutz just another SE that I am going to have to deal with!

Linda,  I think Obama is cute!

Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. became Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) on March 1, 1972. Within a matter of months he demonstrated an understanding and deep commitment to help TUCC achieve its motto and vision.  The motto, "Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian", was a phrase coined by his predecessor, the Reverend Dr. Reuben Sheares, and was officially adopted by the congregation shortly after Pastor Wright began his ministry.

(Copied from their website, retrieved 1/31/2008)

Their motto sounds a little radical...but we will see!

I saw a news clip of Mitt at some bbq for some straw poll last fall or late summer.

He was wearing an apron, not frilly, and had a pitcher in each hand and was asking those at a table if the wanted lemonade or water.

At that moment I knew that man would never be president.

Can you even picture Kennedy, or any other respected pres. doing this?  Nope, not me.

He was so out of place it was funny.  He was acting as if the people had cooties and was there for the pic.

Now, I realize pols have had pics taken in awkward situations, but this one, offering pitchers of lemonade just hit me the wrong way.

Did anyone see the republican debate last night? What a joke. Midway through I thought what a fun drinking game there could be if I took a swig everytime someone said "ronald reagan" or "true conservative" but then I remembered I don't drink much and don't want to die of alcohol poisoning. I do think McCain is the least scary of the bunch for me, even though I strongly dislike his prowar stance and disagree about the level of terror he and the other repubs are surmising. The word "terror" seems to work well for them. As for McCain being a centrist, anyone who's not a fanatic would be standing next to Mitt and Huckabee would.

I caught a clip of Hillary on Nightline last night. She said the phrase I so longed to hear about Bill's attack-- that she takes responsibility for what is said on her behalf (the buck stops here) and regrets things were said in a way that caused misinterpretation. She actually seemed unnasty and I could picture myself possibly voting for her if she is the democratic nominee. I won't vote for McCain because of his anti choice and anti gay rights stances.

    A little info on Mitt:

    The "Evolution" of Mitt Romney

Tim Russert: "On every one of these issues there has been an evolution, an intellectual journey on all of those issues." [Meet the Press, 12/16/07]

    On Religious Tolerance:
Mitt Romney Today: No Religious Test for Appointments.
"RUSSERT: So if you determined that the most qualified person for the Supreme Court or for Attorney General or Secretary of Education happened to be an atheist or an agnostic, that wouldn't prevent you from appointing them? ROMNEY: Of course not. You, you, you look at individuals based upon their skills and their ability, their values, their intelligence." Romney later said our shared values "allow us to select people regardless of their faith for positions of secular leadership." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Mitt Romney Last Month: "Cannot See" Appointing a Muslim in His Cabinet. Politico.com reported that Mansoor Ijaz, "a New York financier and commentator of Pakistani ancestry," wrote in an opinion piece in the Christian Science Monitor that Romney said that he did not see that a cabinet-level position would be justified for a Muslim. According to Ijazm, the exchange with Romney occurred at a closed fundraiser in Las Vegas in mid-November. Ijaz maintained that, "I asked Mr. Romney whether he would consider including qualified Americans of the Islamic faith in his Cabinet as advisers on national security matters, given his position that 'jihadism' is the principal foreign policy threat facing America today.' And Romney replied, 'Based on the numbers of American Muslims [as a percentage] in our population, I cannot see that a Cabinet position would be justified. But of course, I would imagine that Muslims could serve at lower levels of my administration.'" [Politico.com, 11/27/2007; "A Muslim Belongs on the Cabinet," Christian Science Monitor, 11/27/2007, csmonitor.com]

    On Iraq
Mitt Romney Today: I Have Said "For Months If Not Years" That The U.S. is Paying for the Bush Administration's Mistakes in Iraq.
"I have been saying for months, if not years, that following the collapse of Saddam Hussein, our policy was unprepared, unplanned, understaffed under-managed, that we had made a number of errors and that much of the difficulty we face today is due to those errors." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Mitt Romney, September 2006: I "Wouldn't Presume" to Have Done It Differently in Iraq. Romney told Bill O'Reilly that he "wouldn't presume" to do it differently: "I wouldn't presume to present a plan different from that of the President. But I believe he was right to take on the war on terror on an aggressive front rather than a defensive front. We toppled the government ... walking away would mean a humanitarian disaster. We're there and we have a responsibility to finish the job." [O'Reilly Factor, FNC, 9/27/06]

    On Abortion:
Mitt Romney Today: Overturn Roe vs.Wade.
"The first step in my view is that Roe v. Wade be overturned." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Massachusetts Mitt Romney: I Support Roe v. Wade. "I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe .v Wade has been the law for twenty years that we should sustain and support it. And I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." [1994 Senate Debate]

    On Stem Cell Research
Mitt Romney Today: Opposes Federal Funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research.
"For federal dollars I would focus on alternative methods." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Massachusetts Mitt Romney: Supported Funding for Stem Cell Research, In Part to Cure Wife's Illness. Romney's spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said, "Mitt Romney supports stem cell research. He believes the growth of our biotech industry at least partially depends on this type of research, and he also has a personal interest because this research might one day produce a therapy to treat his wife's multiple sclerosis." [Boston Globe, 12/4/02]

    On Gun Control
Mitt Romney Today: Bragged About NRA Endorsement.
"I was pleased to have the support of the NRA when I ran for governor. I sought it, I seek it now. I'd love to have their support." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Massachusetts Mitt Romney: Bragged About Not Lining Up With the NRA. After signaling support for the assault rifle ban and the Brady gun control law, Romney said, "That's not going to make me the hero of the NRA." He added, "I don't line up with a lot of special interests groups." He echoed that theme in his gubernatorial campaign when he said, "We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts. I support them. I won't chip away at them. I believe they protect us and provide for our safety." [Boston Herald, 9/23/94]

    On the Assault Weapons Ban
Mitt Romney Today: Would Have Signed Extension if He Were President.
"RUSSERT: So the assault ban that expired here because Congress didn't act on it, you would support? ROMNEY: Just as the President said, he would have, he would have signed that bill if it came to his desk, and so would have I." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Mitt Romney In October: Opposed Reinstating Assault Weapons Ban. According to a Des Moines Register survey, "Romney opposes reinstating the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. He does not believe any more federal gun laws are needed but said he would consider signing carefully tailored legislation regulating weapons of 'unusual lethality or power.'" [Des Moines Register survey, http://data.desmoinesregister.com/election08_issues/issues.php]

    On Gay Rights
Mitt Romney Today: Opposes Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
After Russert pointed out that Romney had promised to "sponsor the Employment Non-Discrimination Act," a federal ban on employment discrimination based on sexual orientation illegal, and asked if he still supported a federal ENDA Romney said, "I would not because I think that policy makes more sense to be implemented at the state level." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Massachusetts Mitt Romney: Supported Federal ENDA. "Bay Windows: Do you support the federal lesbian and gay civil rights bill that would ban anti-gay discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and credit? Mitt Romney: This is Barney Frank's legislation? Bay Windows: This is not just employment, but also housing, public accommodations and credit. Mitt Romney: I am not fully aware of that bill, so I would need to study that more fully. I am aware of the legislation that Barney Frank proposed [the Employment Non-Discrimination Act] and do support that and would vote in favor of that.' [Interview with Senate Candidate Mitt Romney, Bay Windows, 8/25/94]

    On Ronald Reagan
Mitt Romney Today: Reagan Way "Right Way" for America.
"The right way for America to proceed is to pursue the strategy Ronald Reagan pursued in the last century." [NBC's Meet The Press, 12/16/07]

Massachusetts Mitt Romney: I'm NOT Trying to Return to Reagan-Bush. During the 1994 Senate campaign, Romney said, "I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush." [1994 Senate Debate]

Shirley, Romney was our governor here in MA.  He is another carpetbagger, just like Hillary.  Moved here to run for office as a stepping stone.

You can't hold good looks and good grooming against someone.  I guess he has some significant accomplishments in business and the Olympics.

But, yes, he is slick.  He really isn't liked very much here in MA.  I am amazed he was elected, really.

His universal health-care that he is so proud of?  I wonder why he has not been talking so much about it?  Maybe because it is a travesty.  Did you know that you are required to have health insurance under MA law?  That does not mean the state is giving it to you.  It means that if you don't have it, you lose your state income tax exemption, with heavier penalties accruing as time goes by if you don't sign up for insurance.  On top of the loss of tax exemptions, there are financial penalties, you are actually fined, for not having insurance.  This, in my estimation, is a blow to the working poor who have no work-related health insurance, or have to pay most of their premium, or cannot afford to buy their own private insurance.  Also, it is a blow to small businesses who are now required to provide some sort of insurance access to their employees or be fined substantially.  It's fine for big business, who provide health insurance but are pushing off more and more of the costs to the employees.  Seems THAT is okay.

Super Tuesday will be interesting here in MA.  I wonder how Romney will do against McCain?  I'm just in a lather debating which primary I should vote in, the Republican or the Democratic.

I wish McCain would loose this new mantra---his point has been made we all know it.

"I’m proud to have been a member of the Reagan revolution, a foot soldier."

Okay, so the debate was in the Ronald Reagan Library--but how many times can you say it in one debate---change it up a little--please!

Also, afraid Melanoma surgery is no beauty treatment---I guess sun exposure is one of the risks of living in a magnificent place like Sedona

Paulette, here is the link to the MA Health Plan Connector.  It will give information about the types of plans, what they cover and what they cost.  Bottom line is that there are no bargains.  Yes, there are some plans at low cost for extremely low income but they also don't cover much and have high co-pays and deductibles.

Romney wouldn't appoint a muslim-- that's scary. So it's ok for him to be prejudiced against muslims but not ok for people to be prejudiced against him for being mormon?  I have said openly that I hope that no one chooses not to vote for him because of his religion-- just because of his policies.

Coming up on Gay Usa this week for anyone who's interested. :This week, we'll analyze the narrowed Democratic and Republican fields for president. We're particularly happy that Rudy Giuliani is no longer a threat. We'll show you Senators Ted Kennedy and Barack Obama integrating gay issues in their speeches, Sen. Hillary Clinton talking about her concern for LGBT teens, and President Bush bragging about how "open-minded" he is to Rep. Barney Frank. We'll also show you what Bush had to say about AIDS in his last State of the Union address and dissect it. Sen. John McCain's side did some anti-gay push calls in Florida. (if this is true I'm disgusted).

Yes, Paulette, affordable insurance or some form of universal health care is critical for all of us.

I did a small experiment with the MA website and, just using the minimum of something like at least $41,000 per year for a family of two, in my zip code and using an occupation code for administrative secretary (which I'm not) the insurance options range from around $900 per month to around $1800 per month, with big deductibles and co-pays at the lower end.  Hardly affordable at the rate of $12,000 to $21,600 per year.  How are people going to do it and pay their mortgages or rent, heat, gas, other utilities, FOOD, other insurances, etc., never mind living like a human being.
