Presidential debates on ABC right now-both parties

I agree with you, Tina....this is better than "Dancing with the Stars" anyday. Only thing is....people's lives are at stake, huh?
I sure wish we had a crystal ball. John Edwards has been my favorite all along, with Obama a close second. I keep waiting to be swayed differently, but my gut seems to be settled. I love the Kennedy's, but let's not forget that they know U.S. politics better than anyone....it was in the breast milk they received at birth.

Yesterday I began to wonder just why are these candidates running for president. Power? I'm trying to get into their heads and figure this out.
-
I have not a clue who I will vote for----but these talking heads are starting to make me ill. All of a sudden everywhere I look has Bay Buchanan----talk about grating on the nerves!
The Conservative Attack dog?----Talk about nasty-By November I'm going to throw the chair through the TV screen.
-
Well, HELLary too Florida.
Shirley
-
No wonder Bay Buchanan was so mean spirited --She's Romney's new campaign adviser.---Least she was muzzled tonight.
Anyone catch Hillary's new campaign ad? ---Not bad
May play well in the East. Did anyone see the new Caroline Kennedy ad thats due to flood the airways this week? Hillary's ad is almost an answer to the Kennedy ad.
I hear Bloomberg will not run if McCain gets the nomination.---They are friends.
Notice how nice McCain was to Huckabee tonight in his speech nevermind Guiliani--- McCain/Huckabee?
-
Susie, I talked to my brother after the primaries. Neither one of us are really happy with our choices. Don't forget...I'm a registered republican..hope we can still be friends.
I missed Hilary's acceptance speech.
Now I'll bang my head against the wall trying to decide who to vote for in the primary here in N. C. However, by then it probably won't make any difference.
Shirley
-
Always friends Shirley---
Shirley-I may be registered Democratic but I'm really an independent---Don't mind crossing party lines at all and split my ticket frequently.
By the way-never could get past Chappaquiddick either.
Always viewed Teddy as a flawed individual.
But, I do feel that he matured over the years and has done good things. And it was a damn good speech he gave all those many years ago at the Convention that renominated Carter--You had to be there in person to appreciate that Kennedy Mystique--it was a magical moment.
But I don't like or believe in coronations----
I am completely undecided about all the candidates---except I don't trust Romney---don't know why---just rubs me wrong.
-
Tina I took Caroline's comment about her kids being that they were the ones who first got her to examine him more. I think Obama is good looking, except his lips look like they have lip liner on them LOL.
Marin, have we finally dragged you into enjoying politics????
Susie, I have seen Hillary's new ad, it's pretty good but it feels strained to me- like she's acting and not being genuine and I think Ted Kennedy has evolved over the years. I can't hold something that happened 40 years ago against him.
I was glad that McCain won FLA as I see him as the lesser of evils. Hillary dipped lower on my respectability scale. She made an agreement not to campaign in Florida (or Michigan) because the democrats agreed not to campaign in the states that broke the party rules and lost their delegates. Now she wants to petition to get the delegates back, because Floridians (and Michiganians) deserve a voice. I wonder if she would do the same if Barack had been the one to break his promise and campaign there and "won" the non races.
I understand that these states deserve a voice, but why did they not deserve a voice when she agreed with the other candidates to not campaign in those states? I also remind myself that their states were told of the consequences of moving their primaries and chose to disenfranchise their voters.
Either way, it smacks of untrustworthiness to me, something I've always been leery about with Hillary.
I heard a rumor that Edwards was dropping out and endorsing Obama, not sure if that's true but Rudy is dropping out to endorse McCain.
-
Susie,
You are 100% on target to not trust a word out of Romney's mouth. He is the worst flip flopper in politics. He will say whatever he needs to say to get the vote and then ignore whatever he promised and do what is best for Mitt. I am so relieved that McCain won Florida. I don't want Romney in the position of possibly being our next president. It would be a disaster.
Amy, None of the Democratic candidates campaigned in Florida or Michigan, including Hillary. Of the top three, only Hillary's name was on the Michigan ballot but in Florida, they were all on the ballot. They still held their primaries even though it doesn't count for anything. I agree that I have an issue with Hillary trying to get these delegates seated at the convention - they knew the consequences when they started messing around with the primary schedule and they should not be seated.
CNN just reported that Edwards is dropping out. Who gets his supporters? I'm betting on Obama.
-
Amy, I grew up at "campaign headquarters" and was attending $1000-plate dinners while still a child, so I don't expect to ever enjoy politics, but having a conscience, I need to make decisions and have a stance. Still, I tend to choose based very much on gut feeling. With John Edwards about to throw in the towel, I will have to back Obama. Hillary just plain scares me!
~Marin
-
Edwards isn't supposed to endorse anyone to day, according to ABC-- but I bet he's going to endorse Obama as well.
Marin, I would have loved to grow up with that. Instead I grew up reading Newsweek at age 8 and the nightly news from toddlerhood. I've always been interested.
Sad for Edwards but a bit glad because I think his family needs him more than the country does right now.

I have been crusin around this website and am happy to find something other that BC to talk about. I want to be so over all that! But I think it is really great, the support everyone gives to each other. I am a political junkie, so I love it here. Mind if I join in?
On Obama; he is my senator and I know nothing about him! The press totally leaves him alone, except in Chicago, where some of shenanigans have been in the press a lot. They slayed Bush for admitting to drinking but say nothing about Obama doing cocaine! The mainstream never reports it. Anyway, he did not even have to campaign in Illinois because our republican party is a ship with no rudder. Our last governor is in jail and our current one should be! It is an old boy network at it's finest. The repubs brought in some idiot from Maryland(no offense to Marylanders, I love your state!), because he was black. Needless to say, a lot of repubs voted for Obama, just to send the party a message that they need to get a a clue! So he won in a landslide without even having to campaign. He projected himself as Mr nice guy and is trying to keep this up, but is up against the Clinton machine, so I am really enjoying the fact that he needs to actually come out and take a stand. I still do not have any clue what he plans to do as president??!!!
-
I think the reason the press went after Bush is because he was arrested for drunk driving and only admitted it after the story came out. Obama was up front about his use from the beginning. I also think it's a bit of an insult to say "he projected himself as a good guy" because I think he really is. I haven't seen evidence to the contrary.
-
Welcome Linda --The more views the merrier----Its a long way to November!
Illinois politics have had a rather unique and sometimes notorious history --So your frustration is duly noted.
Amy ---It think we no doubt Obama seems like a nice guy----thats an important aspect--- That's why I like McCain too---What you see is what you get.
Heck--for that matter Huckabee seems like an honest likable character--(not my political views) even a fine sense of humor as does Obama-----
--- but the comfort factor is there. I'm hoping he'll stay in the race long enough to take delegates away from Romney.
As the months go on all these candidates are going to have to hold up to very close scrutiny. They will be all under the microscope and the gloves will be off. We need to find out where all these candidates truly stand.
Oh --Not disagreeing with you about Teddy. He has evolved over the years---just think he has his own personal demons and problems beyond Chappaquiddick----I like him and I think he is very sincere but
had he run for president--his history would have been plastered and
Chappaquiddick is a strong visual memory for many of us of a certain age.--
Very hard to put out of the psyche ----
Tell me he's not running again-----Please!!!!!! Ralph Nader???????
He's trying to raise money. No! No! No!
-
I have this feeling about Romney also...can't put my finger on it. He sounds "too nice." He looks "too nice." He "looks presidential." He "talks presidential." But my gut is telling me something's wrong. Can anyone give me a clue?

Hi Shirley,
That MITT? I immediately disliked him from the start of the one debate I was able to see.
He and Hillary were doing a song&dance act.Or maybe a contest--who could be louder, and ruder.
I have also read that Mitt has absolutely LIED (and this is only what he was flat-out caught in) as saying that his dad marched with MLK!
The NYT had a front-page story in the politics section, with a photo of a MLK march. The front marcher, beside King, was left blank, with the caption of "Your dad here".
Anyway, my gut doesnt like MITT either.
But it does like John McCaine (whom I truely will vote for if ms hillary gets the nom!)
(What is MITT's real name, anyway?)
Uh, Tina and all you who want to discuss Obama's looks (which I've never really considered-too busy listening to him speak! He looks lovely to me.)
I just read that he is a confirmed FOX--by People magazine!
Yeah, I think he's pretty foxy!

Better go!

All in fun ---and knowing how Joan feels about John Edwards hair---I just could not resist this---
Sorry Joan that you can't see it--It would give you a chuckle!
In honor of Joan!
-
Love you, Susie!(Could ya at least describe it to me?)
I feel sad that Edwards quit, I feel sorry for him.But I've been saying all along that living in a campaign bus w/2 screaming brats(and their nanny), and campaigning is not exactly nice for EE on Femara.I always see pix of her literally holding her head up.I know the feeling well.
Edwards is a nice guy.But a little full of himself?
As Amy said, his family needs him more (than we do).(Whatever could he have been THINKING?)
Myself, I've been there, one that.I DID vote the Kerry/Edwards ticket.(It wasnt a good ticket.)
I truely think Obama should get the nom.But maybe that dirty politics hillary(and her henchman) will bully him out of it.Fine.Our loss.
And another Republican vote!
I am one Demmy who believes a Republican ISNT a Republican.
I can see the diff between McCaine and BUSH!!(One is sane, for one...)
-
Okay Joan, ---Picture this Natalie Wood (Marnie Nixon) in West Side Story sitting in front of her mirror singing:
I FEEL PRETTY--OH SO PRETTY--I FEEL PRETTY AND WITTY AND GAY
AND I PITTY ANYONE WHO ISN'T ME TODAY--
I FEEL CHARMING OH SO CHARMING --ITS ALARMING HOW CHARMING I FEEL AND SO PRETTY THAT I HARDLY CAN BELIEVE I'M REAL
Okay--now swap Natalie Wood looking in the mirror with John Edwards looking in the mirror
There you go---get the picture!--and its all about the hair!
Anyone have anything to add?
-
In the honesty catagory I forgot to mention what seems like another
genuinely nice man- Ron Paul -again I don't agree with all his views but he
definately has a comfort factor.
