Chemo Treatments

Has anyone noticed there seems to be more use of FEC in Canada than in the US? They seem to use AC, Taxol. Or is this only true of the Atlantic provinces? Is one better than the other?

I'm in London and they used FEC-D then when I was down to my last treatment of Taxol, Docetaxel they asked me if I would partake in a study about 5-FU the F in FEC and told me some people don't have the enzymes to really get any use out of it and it could make some people toxic, I still haven't had any answers to the study but I'm curious, because I read that the women in the US get different chemo meds. Let you know when I hear about the study if you go to the search engine and look up 5-FU and enzymes you'll see more info I posted, my hands are tired and I can't type anymore. But look it up.Pearl49 I'm in London Ontario

Hi Ladies:
I believe that the chemo treatment you get is determined by the type of cancer being treated.
Because IBC is so aggressive I got double dense 4 x AC and 4 x Docetaxol.
Many Hugs to all my BC sisters, who have helped me through this horrible journey. Special thanks to Binney, Shirlann and Holly who were always there for me .
If anyone wants opinions/thoughts on IBC or Taxotere; just ask but be prepared, I am a straightforward, no sugar-coating type of person.
I am now having my first post-treatment check-up. Somewhat anxious but so very happy to be here.
At times this journey is more than difficult, but after all is said and done; we have an inner strength we don't even know is there.....of course "with a little help from our (friends) SISTERS....... as the song goes.
Sending much love, hugs and prayers
to each and every person on this website

I am on the East coast and had4FAC plusHerceptinwith 4 Taxotere then Herceptin for a year. FEC is more often used in low grade early stage disease. Taxols usually given to higher, more aggressive types.

Just read your first post...you had high grade and stage...do you have any heart health issues? Epirubicin supposed to be easier than adriamycin. My tumor was 9cm and I am 2 1/2 years NED. Sounds like you had a great response to your chemo.

I'm a CEF graduate - will be 5 years this Spring - at the time - it was the "gold standard" according to my oncologist. They are all effective - as some say - people with heart issues can't take some chemo regiems. Don't get too caught up in stats of one chemo over another - they're all within a few per cent of each other - and each case is unique - you're stats haven't been written yet - we won't hear about them for another 5 years. Weird......

Hi Ladies, I am from Saskatchewan and would like to ask Erika-Canada about Taxotere - I just finished my first three rounds of Adrucil/Cytoxan/Epirubicin every 21 days and starting three rounds of Taxotere every 21 days and was wondering if you could share anything on your experience with Taxotere? Thanks so kindly, I appreciate your help.
