I stongly suggest JUNO and there is no cancer in the story line!! It is so well written I laughed a LOT!!
Alvin and the chipmunks was okay too!
-
I second that recommendation for Juno. The lead character is smart-mouthed in a very lovable and entertaining way. And the ending is just the sweetest ever....and probably not what you'll think!

I am bumping this up since I can't find the other movie thread from last year.
Loved Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Looking forward to seeing The Bucket List even though ds let out the ending by accident. I love Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Should we just hand over the oscars now?
-
I'm going to see Juno this afternoon and I'm too excited!

Ok guys Juno is fun.....thought Jason Bateman did a real good job.......go see The Great Debaters.......also really good and is based on a true story..........also saw Atonement (sp) not too impressed until the last 10 minutes.........rent "Waitress"........fun movie.......Shokk

If you're looking for the old thread, it's over on "Growing Friendships..." along with the books everyone is reading. But since I'm here, I'll second the recommendation to see "Waitress." If you're in a more realistic, serious mood, "The Kite Runner" was also good, as was "A Mighty Heart" which is now out on DVD too.

2 weeks? Sally field. A story about the end of life. Very tastefully done. FYI only.
do not rent if feeling in a sad mood.
Then on the other hand...DragonFly with Kevin Costner...life after death..very good!!!
-
Thanks, Janis...I was wondering if I should rent 2 Weeks....I love Sally Field! And I really love sad movies too.

Took the day off yesterday to celebrate my 59th birthday and 1 year anniversary from bc diagnosis. Last birthday I spent with pre-admission testing at the hospital prior to my lumpectomy. Went to a matinee and can't recommend enough how great The Bucket List was...touching and uplifting. I would definitely see it again..but maybe after seeing Juno. Then celebrated with family at happy hour. Daughter/son-in-law sent me a great gift yesterday...nine dinners and a yummy dessert, Hazelnut Royale (6 desserts)from www.homebistro.com. Each dinner is individually wrapped and frozen. These dinners are chef-prepared. My beautiful daughter knew in advance that my freezer is never full. Hope we all celebrate these joyful moments in our life.

I must add STARDUST.. DH and I really liked it. It was panned by the critics, but I thought it was well done!
-
i really liked Juno too!

Here's an odd recommendation. You know how sometimes you are going to rent something and your sweetie has been really good about geting what you want the last couple of times? And you know you really ought to be generous and cheerfully agree to a 'guy movie' - an action, shoot-em-up, good chase-scene flick?
Well, go for The Shooter. Mark Wahlberg with his shirt off is almost enough in and of itself to see this movie (fanning self), but it actually has a plot and not too many gaping holes in logic/reasoning. He is a retired top-notch sniper wooed out of retirement by the higher-ups in Washington (Danny Glover) to help prevent an assassination plot against the president. Of course, it turns out not to be that simple.
Watch the special feature at the end of the DVD (I never do this) on how Mark trained for the role and discovered he had an outstanding natural ability as a sniper.
Your guy will love it and you get some eye candy and a decent movie.

I want to add my vote for Stardust as one the critics panned, but I enjoyed.

Water.

Another "Juno" fan here.

Jorf - are you referring to the move Water by Deepa Mehta?

Its May -- tell me of a good current movie playing that my hubby and I can go see tomorrow --- Our anniversary is Sunday - and we plan to stay in a bed and breakfast Saturday nite ..... Forecast shows 70% rain on Saturday -- so hopefully we can do our biking on Sunday -- so a movie is in order for Saturday - after the outlet mall shopping lol ................... any suggestions would be appreciative
After a rainy Saturday -- Ill look forward to that cozy fireplace that we will have in our room at the BnB
thanks........

I heard Baby Momma was good.
My boys want to see Iron Man.
-
Well, I can tell you what movie you might NOT want to see and that is Bucket List. Actually, it's a very good movie but the cancer dx and scences of s/e's with treatment are too real for most of us, I would think. Still, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson are very, very good and the movie leaves you with an upbeat sort of feeling.
-
Oh my gosh.....I want to see Baby Momma. Those two ladies are hilarious! I just saw Juno last weekend...loved it.

Waitress--OK
Juno--excellent
Secondhand Lions (was on TV the other night)--weird but very good
Charlie Wilson's War--funny, very good (too true)
Can you tell we get Netflix?
