Laura, all of the Environ products that I have used so far are unscented. I am seeing my ps this afternoon and will pick up my "next in line" face gel. (They start you off with very mild creams and get stronger with each new tube so the Vit A won't irritate your skin.)
I am also going to ask pricing on the "filler" injections for around the mouth. Why not?

Laura - how is the face looking? It's been several hours (18) since your last post - post-peel; I am curious.

Ok, last night (after a couple of beers), I put on these cheap a$$ clippy hair things (as seen in my avatar) and took a pic! I MISS MY LONG HAIR. Grow baby grow.
-
Hi!
Your hair looks GREAT! ...those are just clippy hair things!? WOW! You look really good!
Okay, well...there's just a tiny area by my chin that's peeling (about the size of a dime)! Of course it would be in that area, because that's the only area I don't have blotchy skin and wrinkles in! LOL But I read the pamphlet, and it said that some people won't peel...and others could take up to 48 hours. But what I don't understand is - if a peel doesn't cause you to peel, how good could a peel be without peeling?
OMG LOL Kind of like Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers...
So we shall see...
-
ROFL @ Laura
-
haha!! WTH? Where is the peel? I don't understand either. A peel without the peel. Too funny.
Thanks - Yes, cheap clip in faux hair. The hair in the pic looks ok, but in real life, the look is one that resembles the girls in the music video for Moulin Rouge, the hair is so huge. Or Rupaul. I cannot wear it anywhere outside of the home.

-
Too funny! Okay...what about under a cute hat...
-
Now, that's what I had initially intended when I bought those things. My husband hates the fake hair even under the hat, but I might wear it tomorrow to work just for fun.
Any peeling going on yet?
-
Your husband sounds like a real trooper...I say GO FOR IT...wear it work and freak everyone out! Heck it is FRIDAY, tomorrow!
As for the peeling...now my whole chin is peeling, but that's it! LOL I am going to call tomorrow and ask them is this is normal. I'll keep you posted.
Beth - I still want to know...what's with the applied tan? Here in Chi-town, we have the spray on tan, but that's done by a machine. It sounds like you have had someone manually apply the tan cream? I'm just curious...I love to know about any tanning procedures that don't involve UV rays, etc.
-
What a difference a day makes! Y I K E S ! I look like a chameleon (sp?)! dh is calling me Camille! LOL So, yes...the peel is peeling! My Mom's here for the weekend and she wants to go out for lunch...I asked her if we could go to a drive thru...I don't want to scare a waiter! LOL We would probably be seated at a table far off in a corner, with really dim lights! The skin under the peels DOES look healthier. Less pores and it has a soft smooth finish. Although, I am seeing more tiny wrinkles than before...I guess they were hiding under the layers of dead skin. Next Tuesday I will have the first of 5 Cutera Laser Genesis treatments. Hmmmmmmmmm...we shall see!
-
haha! You're peeling - hurray! I am now curious about the next step and cannot wait to hear all about it. You're on your way to getting rid of that layer of skin and ready to unleash the fresh skin below. exciting stuff.
-
Wow, I've certainly missed alot here! Laura...I'm curious about how the final result will be. Everyone I know who has had a professional peel has loved the outcome, but waiting for it to happen can be tedious, huh? As for the filler that's used on the mouth parenthesis (or naso-labial folds, as they're so grossly called), I've done research on the different available products and have used Restalyne as a result. It costs the same as Juvederm, but lasts slighly longer. Also, it's supposed to stimulate collagen growth and I will say that I now go longer between injections (it's now 6 months and I'm only now seeing the return of some slackness and wrinkling). So definitely ask about Restalyne, even though most places are now pushing the Juvederm (more frequent visits = more $$$ ?).
So I have two questions for you chicas....first, I'd like to try rimming the inside of my eyelids with white in order to brighten them and cover their natural color since chemo- red. Does anyone know of a white eyeliner that goes on smoothly, without tugging, and that can worn with contacts?
Secondly, I need to find a new hair conditioner that works as well as my current one. I've neen using Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Oil Super Conditioner and it leaves my hair perfect....soft, no frizz and not flat and limp. The trouble with it is that now we're supposed to avoid tea tree oil after that recent research showed it can cause breasts to grow in young children, specifically in young boys (
). I guess I don't need to freak over it, but it would be nice to find a good alternative. Does anyone have very fine hair like I do, but also have to give your hair extra care to avoid issues resulting from highlights, etc.? What conditioner works for you?Beth....Didn't you get a spray/mystic tan? Why did it miss your fingers and breasts? That's sorta bizarre.

Marin,
"a white eyeliner that goes on smoothly, without tugging, and that can worn with contacts? "
Mr. Frosty - Benefit
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P5611&searchString=Mr.frosty
Did you try the Laura Mercier eye thing ?
-
oh sorry Marin... Mr. Frosty might be a little big for the inside of the eye.. I put it in the outside towards the nose to make a dewy look.
-
You girls are so knowledgable!
As the day progressed, so has the peeling. OMG - it's amazing. It looks awful, but hey...when ya play, ya gotta pay! LOL Tonight I'm going to sit in a really hot steam shower and hopefully that will help wash away some of the dead "epidermis". LOL Perfect example of how a mother doesn't see her "childs" flaws: when I showed her my peeling face, she said I don't see any peeling! OMG - I swear, if I grew a third eye right in the middle of my forehead, and then asked my mom how I looked, she'd say - "you look great"! LOL
Raye - Soooooooooooooo...did you wear the curly clippies to work?
Marin, Thanks so much for the info re: the Restyline vs Juvederm...do some salons only use one or the other? I'm wondering...if my salon ONLY uses Juvederm, will I have to go elsewhere. 6 months...that's great! I actually wouldn't mind having some breasts grow...I think I'll try that conditioner! OMG LOL - Sorry...I couldn't resist!
I like Aveda hair products...
I've never used white eyeliner...interesting...I have a lot to learn!
-
Quick update...OMG!
My skin is BRIGHT RED! It looks like:
A.) I'm having major hot flashes!
or
B.) I laid on the beach all day in Mexico!
I wish it was from the latter of the two!
-
Laura....You have got to find a copy of the Sex and the City episode where a party is being thrown in honor of the release of Carrie's book and Samantha goes for a peel. She is so red and raw-looking that she has to wear a giant hat with a full, thick veil covering her whole face (at first, she tries to get out of going, but Carrie won't let her). It's hilarious!
Trigeek....the Frosty looks tempting but it is probably a bit wide. I think I need very thin. I haven't tried the concealer yet....waiting for a financial windfall
. And, btw, I LOVE your signature mantra...."Live deliberately" indeed! You go, girl!~Marin
-
Marin - I am cracking up here! OMG - I will definately check out that episode...but I can already imagine how funny it is! And I can imagine how I will be able to relate to it! Thank GOODNESS, I do not have any major social events planned this weekend! LOL I would be kissing butt and cancelling - big time! LOL Raw...is the perfect word to describe how I'm feeling right now! Thanks for the laugh...ouch...it hurts to laugh...skin is pulled when laughing! OMG LOL
-
UPDATE: It's Sunday evening...all peeling stopped late yesterday. Most of the peels have fallen off (most came off with a light washing using a wash cloth). Today I've been slathering on the moisturizer and it's looking almost 100% normal! I'm really happy with the results. It actually looks healthier! Hope you all are having a beautiful weekend! LOL
-
Hey Laura, good for you for going and getting all that stuff done !
For my 1st anniversary next year I am thinking about treating myself to Restylane, and intense pulse light therapy (is that laser ? not sure), I think my PS does this ( or my ob-gyn)
For now I am in the 'follicle obsession' phase hunting for Nioxin System2.. and will get Biotin after surgery ( where do you get Biotin from anyways from just a health food store ?)
My complexion seems to have aged a good 10 years with all this chemo crap and am trying to figure out what to do with it.
-
Trigeek....Restalyne is terrific, but make sure that it's done by a plastic surgeon or at least a very experienced aesthetistician. I've had a beautiful result and a not-so-great one and it's all about the experience.
I buy the Whole Foods brand of Biotin. They have different strengths and I take the highest dosage...5 mg (5,000 mcg). You can get it at GNC, Vitamin World and Earth Fare too. I'm sure that some pharmacies carry it, but I like to stick to WF's brands when possible.
And finally, I answered my own question last night when I recalled a white highlighter I'd bought awhile ago and never used because I was unsure how to and where. So I pulled it out and rimmed the inside edges of my lower lids. Then I smudged a small dash of a thicker, creamier white highlighter (Cool Effects) on the outside corner under the lashes, just to give it a brighter, more open-eyed effect. I was amazed at how much of a difference this made! The rimming highlighter is from Cargo and has two ends, one intended for the outer corners and the other for inner corners.

Laura - Ah, the peel was worth it! yeah...sounds as though you look fabulous.
Laughing at your comment about the boobs growing back! I often tell people I am waiting for the starfish effect to come out as an option for reconstruction when they ask me if I am going to get recon.
Marin - Good episode of Sex in the City! Kind of like the big red bush episode. Biotin question: how much more quickly did your hair grow using the Biotin? They say hair normally grows about 1/2" a month.
Raye
-
I use MAC's Metal-X (shade is Fusion Gold) and put it on with my fore-finger. I start right by the nose/inner eye and swipe upwards toward my brow. It puts a nice brightening effect on my eyes and makes them look so open!
-
Ooops, I said the biotin was Whole Foods brand...not...I buy it there, but it is put out by Country Life. I feel as though my hair grows slightly more with biotin, though I use it more for volume and fullness than length. My hair has always grown pretty fast (like the 1/2-inch per month), but it probably grows about 1/3-in./mo. now.
Yes, Raye, the red bush episode! And it's always Samantha getting into those troubles, isn't it? I can't wait until the movie is released this summer, but I'll be livid if Big and Carrie don't get married! BTW, did anyone see the engagement of Rena Inoue & John Baldwin, U.S. pair skaters, this weekend on the TV broadcast of Nationals? It was so adorable! Rena is in her 20's and has successfully moved past a bad battle with lung cancer. Very inspiring!
Wow, I sure know how to hijack threads, don't I? Sorry, y'all!

Hi, ladies. I've been MIA on the beauty scene because of having a houseguest since Friday. Glad to see you are all plowing ahead with the beautification schemes! Isn't girl talk fun?
Marin, I have also heard that lining the inside, lower lid with pale blue pencil works wonders for making the eyeballs whiter.
Tina
-
I will have to try some of the eyelining tricks to make my eyes appear whiter.
Marin - I love to talk about Sex in the City and cannot wait for the movie either, makes me want to watch my DVDS tonight. Not to mention I love to watch what the girls are wearing.
-
Tina, I was surprised to see our frosted eyeshadows from the 70's and 80's back "in" .... You see the pale blues, pinks and whites, even pale greens making a comeback. I think using them as eyeliner is a great idea.
When I was at the MAC counter, she said WHATEVER goes on top, GOES on the bottom. Having a hard time doing it, but trying.
-
marin- RIMMEL eyeliner in White-- $3. I can't believe you've never used white on the insides... it opens your eye up immensely.
The tan-- was done at the spa... first they exfoliate the hell out of you, then you get in the shower. Then they hand apply this clear gel back then front, and you lay under this cotton thing for 30 minutes with the music on and the lights low.
Then they send you home with the bottle. So after my freaky hand thing, matt was able to fix it all-- and he did my breasts and inner thighs, and everywhere else she missed.
It lasted about 4 days really dark, and now its fading. I still have half the bottle left. The color is a brownish orange. Not as dark as the spray tan, but more natural looking. About 4 shades darker then what I am now.
My head is spinning right now. While we were in FL, I get a call from my little bro... he was the victim of identity theft. HARD CORE... his whole life has been compromised. They know everything about him... thousands are gone, and it affected my entire family b/c there are joint accounts here and there... so my head is reeling from all of this to say the least.
HOWEVER, I read five magazines on the planes, and learned about a ton of new products that I flagged to share here, and guess what? I left the f*cking thing on the plane. UGH!!!
The one that sticks out the most is a new product by BENEFIT called cupids pout or something like that.
It's a two sided liner that helps you create that V in the middle of your upper lip.
I also saw the new spring colors for Essie nails, and "high maintanence" is one that I can't wait to get my hands on.
I read a great article about natural things you can wash your face with for all different problems... and I still have that magazine in one of my suitcases, so after I get my head on straight, I will report back.
Other then that, we spent one day driving around in a convertible (our third rental car, and literally the one day we actually had to ourselves during this whole "vacation") and I got the funniest burn.
It's like a strip going across the top of my forehead, and stopping before it gets to the other side. HOT, right? lol
Did get to hit the outlets with one hour to spare before getting on the plane today, and got some cute stuff. Okay, I'm going to go read more of the boards and get caught up, while doing three loads of laundry and admiring my three broken nails.
xoxoxo

Hi Girls,
I love all the beauty tips. I am a "girlie-girl" so being bald and watching my eyelashes fall out daily due to being on weekly taxol is killing me. Not to mention the dry skin! Anybody have any tips on making lashes grow back faster or how to look as normal as possible in the meantime??? BTW-Jergens Natural glow moisturizer for face does a great job of adding a little healthy looking color.

tri - I think starting with a "peel" would be good. It has made me realize how much I will appreciate the next few, small steps....like the laser genesis and the bo-tox. Just a suggestion, but regardless, anything you do for yourself will be uplifting to say the least. Let us know if you do. You deserve some pamering!
Raye - I love it! THE STARFISH effect!...too funny! Like Darryl H.!?
Marin - What DON'T you know! LOL You are quite well rounded...with your knowledge - OF EVERYTHING! LOL I think you should start your own column in a really well-read newspaper or magazine!
Beth - Oooohhh..ouch - I am sorry about the ID theft...I'm a big internet shopper and worry about it all the time! I hope he can re-coup some atleast.
OKAY...now I understand about the tan. I've never heard of having someone apply it. Is that better than the spray on Mystic tan machine? Just curious. I had that done for my dh's x-mas party because I wore a halter, evening gown and didn't want to "glow" like Casper. I have to say though...that tan machine SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME! I almost had a heart attach when the machine turned on! I think I jumped about 5 feet in the air! LOL And standing there stark naked...I was freezing my butt off, but hey....you forget the pain!
-
Beth, glad to hear you had a great time in Fla. The funny face tan should not be a problem for you as you are so good at make-up!
I am amazed at the Cupid's Pout lip stuff, though, as I have a natural Clara Bow V on my upper lip and I try to minimize it all the time. Just goes to show you that one man's meat is another man's poison. Either that, or fashion is fickle and keeps on cycling. Right, Rocktober??? Frosted blue shadow. Cheesh!
Suze in Shrewsbury, you might try taking Biotin tablets daily as a hair growth supplement, but I don't think there is anything you can do to make those lashes grow out any faster. I had A/C last May and mine are falling out for the third time now, although not all at once like the first time. I am hoping this is the LAST TIME I go through this! I had heard it would happen two to three times. So, they were right.
If you are still on chemo, your onc may not want you to use false lashes, so just get a good eyeliner pencil, sharpen it at least every other day, and draw a line in on the upper lid and smudge it with a pointy sponge tip or pointy cosmetic Q-tip thingy. CVS carries the pointy cotton applicators. Have you lost your eyebrows, too?
Right now I'm thinking of ditching my implant and doing a flap this spring. I guess I need to head on over to the Recon threads and talk there. TaTa.
