I read some studies (or maybe it was just one) saying that mint tea lowers levels of "free" testosterone in the body. That's the testosterone that causes male characteristics like facial hair etc. Here's a link:

Having been just put on Zoladex and given AIs, which apparently I'll have to take indefinitely (!!), I'm freaking out, waiting, as I tell my friends, to become a man. Irrational perhaps, but I can't pretend to be calm, cool and collected.

And so I'm drinking mint tea every night.

Has anyone else done this? Did it have any effect?

I read that they cottoned on to this link because Turkish men - who drink a lot of mint tea - were complaining about impotence. (My boyfriend has been avoiding mint tea since I told him about the study!)

I'm trying to figure out if it matters if it's peppermint or spearmint. Most teas seem to be peppermint, and I'm not sure what the fresh mint at the supermarket is.

    Hi Darya,

I am not taking Zoladex, and I am not on AI's, but I DO have alot of facial hair and I hate it!!  But, sorry to say, I drink ALOT of mint tea, cause I like it, and NO effect on the facial hair whatsoever!  I didn't know that it was supposed to help with this se...  well, it does not work for me!

    Sorry...

    Damn!

Perhaps one of those too good to be true things?

I notice too in the article that they measured a reduction in testosterone in the blood, but not any corresponding reduction in hirsutism ie. no real evidence of the desired effect.

Depending upon how increased or at least normal levels of testosterone affects you, it can be good for us to have a bit more since it supports the libido and ability to achieve orgasm. So, even if you've got a beard and mustache, at least you can have more fun!

Seriously, I should think that drinking mint tea, in moderation, won't result in our getting grossly hairy.

Where did I leave my razor? Wink

Speaking of hirstutism, my Fu Manchu?

When I stopped Femara.Even before I started Tamox.

    Gone!

Even the tweezed hairs have somehow lightened and arent apparent now.

My hair is still a bit thin, in front.I will take an extra biotin for a while.

Darya the mint at the supermarket..is it a plant? It's probably Spearmint. It's a less expensive mint.It smells like..chewing gum.

    Peppermint smells like...candy canes.

In my old house, I had a big herb garden, and a seperate mint garden, far away from the other gardens.Because mint is VERY invasive.

I used to cut the spearmint for tea.AndI used to cut great swaths of it mid-summer and dry it for mint tea all winter. It is what they drink in the Middle East.

Peppermint is for tummy trouble, and actually GIVES some people dyspepsia.

If you have a sunny window, hell if you have ANY window, you can grow your own Spearmint for tea.

You will NOT turn into a man! Hint:You are so young and have so much free estrogen in your system that it will take QUIIIITE a while for the AI to start "turning" you.

But I'm sure mint tea has nice antioxidents for you.

    love to you, j
