It only took about 15-20 minutes to take mine out.  I was awake, but very numbed up. The Dr. and nurse talked to me all the time.  I just felt the pressure when he pulled it out.   I had no pain afterward.

Congratulations on getting your port out.  I go in the morning at 9:00 to get mine out.  The dr told me it takes about 10 minutes.  I am having mine taken out at the surgery center.  She said I will have IV sedation to make me "loopy" (my word, not hers) and then she will numb it with lidocaine.  It should be a very simple procedure in the physical sense, but a HUGE procedure in the emotional sense.  I am so ready to get it out.  I will try to get back on tomorrow evening and let you know how it goes.  Good luck.  Bonny

I had mine out last October and it went fine, even drove myself home afterwards.  No IV but a numbing agent at the site.  It took about 10 - 15 minutes.

I couldn't get the site wet for 10 days after but it didn't hurt and healed well.  They use the same incision location to remove as they inserted.

    Good luck!

What a wonderful feeling of freedom when your port is taken out! Enjoy it!

Had mine out yesterday and everything went fine.  I san shower after 48 hours, very minimal pain (although she did give me 30 percocet which I shall save for a rainy day) I took 1 when I came home and another 4 hours later.  I threw up all evening becuase I didn't eat anything with the pain pill.  I don't even need anything today.  I love it being gone.  Can't wait to get the steri strips gone.  Bonny

Thank you to everyone who answered my question. It took about a hour yesturday. The doc started at 11:00 and we left the hospital at noon. My right shoulder is pretty sore, but boy am I glad it is out. It's worth the soreness.

    May God Bless

All you girls are such big toughies...I really chickened out and asked for a general anaesthetic...and I actually got one!!!

But the relief when it was out was just out of this world.
