Anyone Doing Xeloda?

Hi, my current chemo is not working and the onc wants to put me on xeloda.Does anyone know much about this chemo? Is it effective for triple negs?,or should I be looking at something else? Please give advice if you can ty...

    Hi Dawn.

    I am on Xeloda for the second time. I did it last year mainly for skin mets and it worked a treat.

    Since then I have had 2 mastectomies and now have skin mets again. I am just finishing my second cycle and it is easy to cope with. No hair loss, just a little fatigue and mild nausea.

    I am taking xeloda for bone mets. So far have had few side effects. Rash, loss of appetite, fatigue seems to be it. Not inhibiting at all. Hope it works. That's the bottom line. Good luck. Hang in.

    It seems like Xeloda has been the wonder drug for me. My cancer tumors are gone in my stomach and have shrunk in my liver and my bone mets are stable. There are a few different ways to take Xeloda but the most common is 2 weeks on and one week off. The dosage is done by your weight. The side effects are very min. but a common one is hand/foot syndrome which feels like your feet are on fire. Good luck with your descion.

    I've just finished my second round of Xeloda. No hair loss !! But it does zap all my energy and killed my desire for all food. I just hope it works. I now have BC mets to both lungs. I'm 42 and I'm triple neg. I had finished BC treatment in Nov 06. Mets showed up in May 07.

    i am getting ready to take my 3rd round of xeloda havent had any se except direaha dont know if its working yet for my liver and bone mets will start avastin mon so good luck to you deb238

    im on my 6th cycle of xeloda for liver & bone mets,liver is improving on every cycle but bones are getting worse,easiest chemo ive done so far, mainly tired & painful hands but not peeling,numbness & pain, seems to be a very good chemo with alot of good results

    I am starting Xeloda some time next week, along with Tykerb, Does anyone know anything about these two drugs? I have been reading so much and making copies, There are fairly new to th emarket, I understand that there are side affects. similar to IV Chemo. ANy help would be appreciated.

    Hello Everyone,

    My mother is preparing to take Xeloda.  She already does not have an appetite so I am really concerned when she begins this treatment.  She had a right mastectomy performed in 1986, left mastectomy in 2002, now mets in her bones and chest wall.  Any information, encourage will be helpful.  Also, I have done some research where some individuals take with taxotere or other medication.  Any thoughts because right now my mother is strictly going to take Xeloda.

    Faye,

    I did Xeloda for three months. The side effect that was the worst was diarreah. But if that happens, the docs adjust your dosage.

    I took immodium almost every day to keep things as normal as possible.

    I did not lose anymore hair, in fact my hair started to grow back while I was on it.

    I did have some soreness on my hands and feet and lots of girls use bag balm to help ease that. I was given some Dr. Scholls Foot Cream and that helped more than the bag balm.

    It is a pretty easy chemo because it is a pill and you don't have to go get infused. I didn't have much appetite on it, but I made up for it during my weeks off. I did two weeks on, one week off.

    My Onc. took me off Xeloda.. This would have been my week 2 with it. He didnt even want me to finish it this week. My hands and feet are so bad right now.. I see him again next Thursday to see how I am doing and then decide what to do next. I was supposed to be on this for 6 months and its only been 2 months.. Not sure he will lower the dosage on the Xeloda or try something new.. WHat else is there besides Xeloda?? Are there any other new drugs out there now? I am still taking Tykerb daily and he gave me Vitamin B6 2x daily... Hopefully the pain will go away soon... Take care ladies and NEVER give up... ALways in my thoughts and prayers

    Donna, when it looked I couldn't handle the Xeloda I was told that I could switch to Gemzar. So there ARE other options. Fortunately, after a short break I was able to continue with the Xeloda.

    I hope you feel better.

    I know the hands and feet can get very painful!
