Go to CNN.com and you can see the debate.

Paulette--I would have suggested that to her-but she has dial-up.  It takes forever to see anything if at all.   I've been pleading with her forever to change to high speed.  You want to give the cause a try?  --- Maybe if we all try to convince her!

    Dear Paulette and Susie,

Thanks so much for trying to give me the impetus to make this change.Since I live at "alternate hours", I really dont do a lot of tv viewing at ALL.And when I do, it is a hardship, because there are things I SHOULD be doing, in my strange schedule. My dog was shocked when I watched the debate on regular TV.It was "the middle of our day", I owed him dinner and a walk.I tried to fir them in during commercials, but--was ungracious.

Susie, I'm happy to hear the phone thing is straightend out.

    Here is where I am:

I have both the Comcast and the Verizon triple-play ads front & center, AND the offer from whatever they call themselves--the dish.

Which actually DOES give you just cable alone, for not a lot of $.Assuming you can stand the sight of that thing on your terrace(outside dining room!)

So I'm here totally inert, going "duhhhhhhhh"

Any suggestions among the 3 options more than welcome!

    XXXXX

Hi Joan!  OMG, you are going either dsl or high-speed internet?  I have comcast for cable and verizon for phone and internet.  I am waiting for verizon fios to be offered on our street to switch from comcast because they are so expensive.  My brother has the dish.  you have to have good southern exposure which we do not so dish is no good for us.  He also had to get a "defroster" for his dish in case it freezes up.

    Say hi to Woody.

Hi Susie!  good to "run" into you.  Let me know if a get-together is still good for you out your way.

Hello to Paulette.  Any friend of Joan and Susie's is a friend of mine.

Joan...I have the dish and it's not too bad, but during inclemedt weather it loses its signal for a few seconds. It is not too frustrating. I have a basic package cause I don't watch much TV either. But, was able to keep my phone and not have to go with a package deal.

    Hello Beth1225...nice to meet you!

    Thanks  {{{Bethie}}} and {{{Paulette}}}!

I purposely chose an apartment which faces North. We have huge windows and you cant keep the heat from the summer sun out unless you buy lined, insulated curtains. Not me, not with these awesome views here.

So...I guess no Dish for me.

And when I was moving (back) here last summer, I called Verizon about FIOS, whivh my geek recommended.

It is not in this building.(yet?)

As to Comnet, those guys are ALWAYS crawling around this building.Doesnt portend well.I would go APESH!T if my phone & computer were out!!

Actually, after seeing the highlights of last night's debate on Channel 12, I'm thinking maybe better I DONT have CNN..BP you knowLaughing!

Throughout the years, it has been my way to watch both conventions (and the summer Olympics) and these are my only constant TV-watchings.

I'm going to say your hi to Woody, feed him, start my dinner, take him out, bla ba bla.

goodnight Joan.  I am pooped today.  My temp is up and I feel lousy.  But "Duke",the drain, is gettign there.  He will be out of here soon.  I noticed I always named my drains after men.  hmmm.  Is that because they can be such pains in your side? LOL

With the changes that's coming in 2009 don't we have to have cable or satelite unless one has one of those expensive TVs?

We have cable with Time Warner.  We also subscribe to HBO which we really don't watch that much.  Anyway, Time Warner was offering a box for free for one year.  HBO would not be available without the box.  We decided to take the offer.  Heck, we don't need all the channels that are so far offered on this box.  We asked the guy who installed the box about why we couldn't get HBO without it.  He doesn't work for Time Warner...he contracts putting in these boxes...he said that HBO didn't want to go to digital...no more analog.  He said next WITH cable we could get HBO without the box.

I was so worried that I'd need a stupid box in order to watch TV.  But, as long as we have cable...one only needs basic cable....we will be okay.  My priorty is not to buy an expensive HD ready TV.

    Shirley
