I just saw Juno yesterday and agree with everyone - a great movie.  Marin:  I think Sue was talking about in the store/market when Juno was taking her third pregnancy test of the day and the clerk (Rainn, the fellow on Office) was making all of the comments about it.

Also, want to see Kite Runner in the worst way.  I read the book and was so touched by it.  I know what you mean about being ignorant about Afganistan and the situation there - really something!!  Makes us appreciate our country more and more.

One last comment, I badly want to see Atonement too - glad to hear it's good!!

    Hi

I saw "The Bucket List" last week. I liked it.Emotional at times but tender, also. Watching them go thru chemo was tough for a bit....I am gonna make a bucket list before I get to a point where I really need one. I think I saw a thread on "bucket lists" on this site somewhere..gotta find it.

Tonight I am going to see "Enchanted". Can't wait to see McDreamy on the big screen..lol.

    Have a good weekend.

    Hugs and prayers,

    Candie

I watched U.S. vs John Lennon on DVD.  It was pretty good, but I can't get that song out of my head now.   It was a good history of our war times back in the 70's.

    Movies I've seen recently:

Bucket List.  I agree with Faithandfifty - mixed emotions, although I liked it.  Hard to watch the chemo treatments.

I am Legend - ok I guess.  It's hard to watch Will Smith entertain himself for an hour and a half.

Kite Runner - book was wonderful and movie is good.  Marin, because of that scene, the movie is banned in certain countries.  I think the book described it in more detail.  The movie has subtitles but you don't notice them.

They're announcing the Oscar nominations now.

I loved Juno too. Watching Ellen Page had that thrilling feeling of "a star is born". The gentle, forgiving world view of the movie made me cry. I loved the way no one was written off, no one was a villain.

I also saw Notes on a Scandal with Kate Blanchett and Judy Dench. It was fantastic and gripping and so wonderful to see movies about women. I get so tired of the male emphasis of so many movies. I want to see the lives of women onscreen too.

For that reason, I went kicking and screaming to "There will be blood". Did anyone see that? (I read most of the pages of this thread but not all). There's only one minor female character in the film and yet I loved it and found it moving. It's about a man in the early days of the oil industry (which sounded deadly boring to me) and it was like watching the birth of the modern age ie. our age and way of life, based on fossil fuels, emerge.

Another good one is "Lars and the Real Girl", with Ryan Gosling. He's very talented and also sexy! But perhaps that film did not get wide release.

Hope to get OUT to the movies to see "Bucket List"!

I LOVED the pretender. Bummed because I missed the last two episodes of the series so I'm going to try to find it at Blockbuster (thanks for the heads up, Beth)...

I finally saw "Frida" with Selma Hayek as Frida Kahlo. It was really good!

We have been using netflix for about 5 years now and love it.  I just found out they offer a new service, some of their movies can be watched on line, without waiting for the dvd!  This is great if you run out of movies before the next ones get here.  I have friends who like the blockbuster, since they can go to the store, but one of the things I like about netflix is I don't have to go to the store!  So having access to more movies online is great.

We just finished "Heroes" and I really liked it.  We saw "Pirates 3" and the new "Die Hard" last week.  They were pretty good, if you like those kinds of movies.  Usually we watch tv shows on dvd, that's my favorite thing to do.  I like seeing what you all have to say about some of these other movies.

I just watched Canvas, which I just happened to pick up at Blockbuster yesterday, due to all the great reviews on the cover.  I thought it was excellent and although it was not about breast cancer, it is about the struggles of a family working their way through the debilitating illness of a family member (the Mom).  I did not find it depressing, I actually found it uplifting because it is about love and loyalty.  Worth renting!

We are almost finished with season one of Heroes and I am amazed at the story lines!  It is really good. And on netflix you can watch this season's shows on your 'puter!

Rented another movie last night (it's been raining hereLaughing).  The movie was September Dawn, excellent!  Very sad, but riveting.  I highly recommend it.  In fact, I watched portions of it again today and did some history research after watching it.  That is how much it impacted me.

And thanks for the tip about heroes, I have it on my wishlist!

Since I finally sent back "Virgin Suicides" (it took me about 3 weeks to watch that blasted movie), "Serendipity" is on its way. Anyone seen it?!?

I just saw Fool's Gold even though it got bad reviews.  I thought it was cute, I've certainly seen movies that are a lot worse and you can't get much better than Matthew McConaughey.

I saw the Bucket List - enjoyed it but beware, it is about cancer.

Kite Runner - excellent movie but it does have subtitles.  The book was also great.

I just watched Michael Clayton.  When I find it hard to keep my eyes open during the first part of a show that usually is very telling.  It won my nod off award...  3 nods, I finally had to rewind it and start it over again.

I would have nominated Gone Baby Gone over Clayton.

Saw both "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country for Old Men" - both very dark but well done.  I consider any movie good if it makes me forget I have cancer for a few hours.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is doing "31 Days of Oscars," showing back-to-back movies that won Oscars for something or other.

Tonight they showed "On the Beach."  I hadn't seen it since I was a teenager (it was made in 1959).  Pretty shocking...along the lines of "Fail Safe."  Classic real-life terror movies of the cold war era.

(desperately looking for a comedy next time!)

I watched September Dawn last night also.  I was shocked.  I never even heard of this before.  It's a true story and it bowled me over.  I have to say it was upsetting to know this happened even after 150 years have gone by.

My DH wanted to see Jumper.  Don't waste your money.  Special effects had promise but proved to be very annoying.  Too many plot twists and no redeeming values.  I dislike wasting my money but waste it we did on this clunker.

Second Hand Lions WAS good.  Never got around to seeing the Bucket List.  I guess it will rent it sometime.

Im a little behind on this thread but for Valentines day my son took me to see Fool's Gold.....I enjoyed it very much as it has Mathew Meconihay (SP) in it Smile

Last night a friend and I went to dinner and a movie......We should have listened to the boy at the window!!!! We saw the Tommie Lee Jones movie, No country for old men, what a strange movie is all I can say!!!! I had no idea what it was, had never even heard of it.....the plot was extremely hard to follow and the end was just that.....no real ending, it just stopped.....it is also a long movie, a little over 2 hours....

I normally enjoy Tommy but must say this isnt a movie I would send anyone to see....

I watched American Gangster it was really good.  I'm wondering why it didn't get nominated considering what Jpann said about No country for old men.  I guess it's who you know.

My daughter and I saw The Other Boleyn Girl last night.  It was very good but raised more questions about that time period for me so had to do some google research.   Be glad we live in a (mostly) enlightened age!

Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johannson (sp?) are wonderful in this movie.
