Kimberly, keep us posted when, yes 'when' not 'if', you get published!  Good luck today.

I had my bi-lat MRIs yesterday and also a follow up with my onc on Tuesday and started Arimidex with Lupron shots.   Does this ride ever end?!   <~~~ purely rhetorical

I bought my twin sister and I matching t-shirts that say "Cancer Sucks" for Christmas.   I wore it to my first dragon boat exercise class and later to my support group meeting that night, got lots of comments!

Our local cancer center is selling t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies that say 'fight like a girl' and have a pink ribbon on it. I wore one to work and sold 5 of them to others in my office.

I enjoy this  thread alot, you gals are hilarious, and I'd love to get one of those t-shirts.  Ravdeb you said studio did you paint before and what kind of business do you want to start.  I've always wanted to start a really good vintage shop, I collect so much stuff I could probably start with what I have in my home.

I was up at 5:00a.m. hate that couldn't sleep, felt a small lump right at the old sight, drove myself nuts with it.  You know raise the arm feel, lower the see if you can still feel, lie down feel it, is it still there yep, about the size of a two carat diamond which I'd rather have.  Going to have it checked I can't stand this panicky feeling it's probably perfectly round scar tissue, Right!  Well was on this site played a few games and went back to bed and had the coolest dreams of a vintage shop with a restaurant attached to the back of it. I was trying on the most beautiful shoes they were gorgeous, but they were all to big every pair in this dream.  Then I woke up, wonder what that dream means?  Anyone have a dream book, if you do let me know. Pearl49  And what does a yoohoo taste like? I lovewolf I hope your fill up goes well and you love the results.Pearl

Pearl, Yoohoo is a chocolate drink that sort of reminds you of chocolate milk but not as creamy. If you have chocolate soldier drink it is similar to that.

Hi Alison!!!  Welcome and don't worry about posting in the wrong place.  This board has ALOT of forums and sections and it can be confusing.  This is a great thread to hang out on and have some fun.  As you probably read, this thread is to discuss anything and everything.  If you want to change the current topic...then just 'hijack' this thread.  :)

I told my husband I  was going to get one, and he said I could only have it if I promised to wear it to my ULTRA conservative, highly religous parents' house (Dad also a former Drill Sgt.). I think he secretly wants to see my mother pass out!

Hi all. I'm back after a very long day out and about...I'm whooped.

Terry NY-I love that you wore your Cancer Sucks t-shirt to your Dragon Boat class!!!! And I will let you know when I hear anything on the poetry submission.

Sheila- Well done on selling the Cancer Center's product to your coworkers. I assume those dollar go to research and stuff. Bravo!

Pearl- Good thing you're checking and that you are going to have it checked out....scary after already doing this, I'm sure. Perfectly round doesn't sound like scar tissue to me either, but it could be something else benign. Keep us posted please....I'm sending positive energy out into the universe for you. Your dream sounds like it is calling you to fulfill your desire to open a shop... shoes too big for you could mean you don't feel like you can ' fill the shoes of someone who could make a go of it'? Just a shot in the dark.

My fill up went well. I then went and picked out my wig...should be ready to pick up next week...just about the time my hair starts to fall out...it's getting that unhealthy course feel and my scalp is starting itch off and on.

Vera- That is GREAT. I want one!!!!

AlwaysHope- A hoot...hahaha. Like the play on hooters.

InShock- That's a crack up about your husband wanting to stir the pot...of course at your parent's house...I take it he's not one with their beliefs.

Good night all. My hubby been in Vegas at a conference since Monday afternoon, so I'm going to get off the computer, so when he gets home I can spend time with him.

    LOl..that shirt is hilarious!

Speaking of hoot..my Ukrainian grandmother was here around xmas time and we were driving past Hooter's restaurant and she turns to me and my mom in her thick accent and says.. "Oh, you have Hooter's here"  We almost died...and said..umm what do you know about Hooters?  She said..I'm old, but not dead..lol

Good for your grandmother...I love that! I'm old...not dead! What a fiesty spirit she must have. A few years back we went to San Diego for a conference and the guys wanted to go to Hooters for lunch...our very respectful Hispanic Vice Principal about died of embarrasment with our hasseling him about ordering from the waitresses breasts like a drive through...she leaned right into him... his eyes about popped out of his head. The food...not so great, but men don't really go there for the food now do they?

Glad that 'bad boy' turned out to be your man!!! Has it shocked the parent that you've lasted this long and 'proven them wrong' about him?

    SIS Kimberly

Hijack- If you could travel anywhere in the world...where would you travel and why? I really want to see New Zealand. I hear it is so beautiful there....and from the scenes in the movie about the Hobbits my husband and son dragged me too, were spectacular. I'm not a big sci-fi fantasy gal, although I do appreciate the special effects and imagination that goes into those storylines.

I want to go to Hawaii in May to see my son's ship return to port from it's 6 month deployment. He was home in June for 10 days following my father-in-law's death.

I'd like to take dh w/me and go to Ireland to visit. His side of the family is from there. And from there go to Finland again to visit my relatives. Both grandmother & grandfather came to America at the end of WWI--they met at the Finnish Hall in Oakland. My grandfather would take my grandma on the ferry from SF to Oakland to the dance. He didn't dance but would sit and watch her dance w/other men, and at the end take her home.

I'd also like to visit Italy, and the countryside of Paris. Oh, I can dream I guess.

Excellent, Kimberly!!!! You'll have to keep us posted on the submissions. It's always so much fun around here when one of us achieves some fame!

Update on my love life....having coffee with the older country gent who wanted us to committ to one another after being acquainted for 10 days. I hope to let him know that I'd like us to be friends, but not lovers....without being hurtful. Wish me luck on that one! As for the architect who I wouldn't mind taking as a lover in the least bit, he's cooking me dinner on Sunday and we plan to spend the day snuggled up in front of the fire, listening to music and playing pool. Sigh. I need some R&R...& R (romance Kiss). And tomorrow night (weather permitting...we may get a few flakes here in Raleigh!), I'm having dinner with the widower who has become a cancer advocate. I'm really looking forward to meeting him and discussing our commonalities!

Wishing you all an awesome weekend!!!!

Sheila- I hope that happens...it would be awesome to see your son return after a 6 month deployment.

    Is that doable?

Grace- Dreaming is the beginning of making something happen.

Marin- Good luck with letting your Country gent down easily...and your architect sounds like a lovely distraction. The widower who has become a cancer advocate...a passionate topic right up your alley.

    Keep us posted.

Ok, a brief hyjack for a poem that woke me at 4am this morning, forced me out of bed to write down what it needed, then went back to bed and spent the last hour giving it its voice.

    Lighten Up 1/18/08

    Lighten up on life

    because there is no

    race to run.

    First place is not

    something you want to claim.

    Those things you are collecting,

    what a waste,

    will amount to nothing worthwhile,

    I guarantee,

    got no value

like those dreams you never chased.

    All those hearts

you’re passing by without a thought,

    afraid they will distract you

    from your goal,

are the gems of your journey

    slipping away

    because getting ahead is

    all you can see.

    “Pushing hard,

    can’t look up,

    no time today.”

    It’s a trap,

    can’t you see it there

    ready to swallow?

    It doesn’t care if you

    Are at your most productive

    You’re fair game

    as long as you choose

    to run the race.

    The myth has been woven

    into your ‘should do’ script.

    You didn’t read between the lines;

    there are alternatives in place.

    There is still time,

    my friend,

    to make a change,

    if you will just stop

    long enough to hear.

    You can slow down,

just take a deep breath in,

    and pay no mind

to those who gain the lead

    because in the end,

there is no big prize to win.

    Step off the racetrack

    you call your life

    and look up

    instead of at your feet.

    Take notice

    of what the world has

    to offer to you.

    See the faces

    of those who want

    only your time

    because its how you

    live and love that counts,

    not the job you do.

    Lighten up on life

    because there is no

    race to run.

    First place is not

    something you want to claim.

    Those things you are collecting,

    Another good one Kimberly.

I don't know if I can make it financially. I don't have enough saved up to afford the plane ticket and the hotel. My son is in the bachelor quarters at Honolulu and no place for visitors to stay.

Marin, good luck with letting the country boy down and the other dates you have set up this weekend.

Sheila...This might sound odd, but if you really, really ,really (as per Liz Gilbert's directive to ask yourself this question) want to see your son in Hawaii. maybe someone on this board lives there and can accomodate you? Or how about a fundraiser to finance your trip? I'll bet there are ways to get you there without leaving you destitute.

Kimberely, I loved that one....and it's so TRUE!!

Here's an idea...lots of people have miles they can't use for whatever reason...use them or lose them. Maybe someone on these boards could help you out with a ticket, Sheila. It couldn't hurt to put out the question.

Thanks Marin...oh, heard from Mamm. Their magazine doesn't take poetry for submissions...only personal stories or ideas for stories.

Africa would be nice...it's warm there...those of you who are tired of the cold. ;-)

I've always wanted to go to Rome.  I checked out the tours that the Smithsonian has one time.  I'm a big history fan.  I want to see all the places from the past Roman Empire.  Its just too hard to get away with work though. I had always planned to do my traveling when I retired.  What a wake up call to be diagnosed with cancer and for a while to wonder if I would even make retirement.  I've started doing more traveling now.  I went to Niagra Falls last year.  Never thought I would ever see that.  I would also like to see California and some of the places out west.

I've always wanted to go to Paris, but I'd love to learn French first. It would be even more wonderful to stay in Paris, then travel the countryside down to the French Riviera, and then take a luxurious train through Italy and into Rome. Then, after steeping myself in Italian culture and cuisine (and saying a quick "hey, y'all" to the Pope), I'd like to hop about the Greek islands, eating lovely olives and fresh fish! Boo-yeah!

I agree Always that putting things off 'until I retire' isn't the best way to deal with our desires. Good for you taking the trip to Niagra Falls. I've been there as well and loved it!!!! Come to CA...there are so many beautiful spots...such a diverse state with deserts, mountains, coastal areas, and temperate rainforest climates.

My dh used to say we'd travel when we retired.  I disagreed and was determined we would go while we were young and able enough to enjoy it.  Swore I'd not push his wheelchair around Europe, little did I realize it'd be ME who would need help!

We did!  And let me tell you, Europe is NO PLACE for anyone in a wheelchair or walking problems.  Now, we didn't take a tour, but did our own arrangements and used public transportation, maybe a tour group would be less energy challenging.  LOL

Now that I have experienced the joint pain of tamox, etc and he is out of condition after 2 bouts with 2 different cancers in one year, we are really glad we have the memories of being able to climb the steps to St.Peters, and the ones in Belliago to get to the great resturant at the top.  To walk thru the Metro(think miles and miles of underground)  in Paris to catch the train to another part of the city, to carry our luggage from the train station in Florence to the hotel near by (never stay at hotel close to the train station in any big city!!)

If you can swing it, go while you are healthy!! We saved the US for our older years and it makes sense to me.

A friend and I went back packing through France, We caught a hop from the Azores and hit the road a walking, it was such a blast, some nights we would sleep in an open bay area, other nights we would pop up the tent, through our gear in and sleep in the open, thst's the first time that I seen the milky way, plus we watched a lightning storm quite a few miles from us... She she kept getting her portugese and french mixed up so the people at the train stations asked her in english where she wanted to go  I burst out laughing on that one...

We really wanted to ride in a gondolea but wasn't in our budget....

We hiked for 2 weeks before we had to return to reality

One more month till NASCAR starts.  I can't wait.  Can that mean spring will not be far behind?  We are supposed to warm up some this week.  I am very grateful for that.  I'm also glad we aren't nearly as cold as some of the more northern states are.

Woohoo...the Giants are in the Super Bowl!!!  Truthfully, I don't think they have much of a chance against the Patriots, but at least they get their shot.

    Woohoo again!

Having lived in Europe or Asia for the last 20+ years, I've been fortunate to be able to do lots of traveling.  My favorite city: London.  I used to spend Thanksgiving weekend seeing shows, shopping, and sightseeing.  Kimberly, I spent two weeks traveling the north island of New Zealand a few years ago...loved it.  Gorgeous place!  I want to go back and do the south island.

I've kind of hung up my traveling shoes in recent years, but I'm ready for an adventure.  At spring break I'm planning a trip to Cambodia...the temples at Angkor Waht (sp? I should learn to spell it before I go) are on my "must see" list.

Sheila, re: Hawaii...if you can get there, your son could get you a room at the Hale Koa, a hotel run by the military that's right on the beach at Waikiki.  I haven't been there yet, but it's gorgeous by all accounts, and room rates are based on rank.  You should ask him about it.

    One more time...Woohoo!  Go Giants!

    Lynn
