Laura, next time the DHC catalog comes, I'll try and samples; I just remember reading a Patricia Cornwell novel where something poisonous arrived at peoples' homes as a sample...key word being novel Tongue out.

I like Mary Kay's firming eye cream. It is amazing! Did I already mention this product? It it like a mini lift for the eyes. I use it at night and no bags whatsoever in the am!

Hey Raye...LOL very funny...Have your husband test it first - OMG - just kidding.

Beth - I've had every type of massage known to mankind - except the stone one! Let us know if it's better than the classic ones. There is nothing better, and I mean NOTHING BETTER, than a good massage.

    ha! Maybe someone I don't like...heh.

Hot stone massage. I've never had one of those either, Beth; although ahhh, it sounds wonderful.

This is totally OT, but did anyone have the incredible urge to shop after being done with treatment? I went to Macy's twice in two hours this afternoon - first time, bought some shoes, came back to the office after and then went back to Macy's to buy a purse and then came back to work. The shoe dept lady asked me If I needed something else and looked at me like I was nuts. I never really used to like to shop, but lately...

    Raye, post treatment shopping:

    Very common side effect!

    Very fun side effect!

    Very fulfilling side effect! LOL

Everyone here calls it RT (retail therapy). I had it too! It's been a year and it I still have it! LOL It just doesn't seem to go away...

Beth..I had the hot stone massage...they use the stones to massage instead of their hands and they lay stones on your body too - they are warm to hot..so be aware of that..I really liked it but the pressure was a little too light for me so maybe pay attention to that..enjoy!!!

I love massages--hot stone is so nice. Enjoy!

Has anyone tried revitalash? I heard about it in a non-breast cancer way and just looked it up and lo and behold, it was created for a woman who had breast cancer! My lashes are not back to normal yet and this sounds promising!

Oh forget it---I just checked on the website-----ackkkk---$150....no thanks. Yell

The hot stone massage is lovely!  Puts the warmth right where you need it if you let the therapist know --  I've very verbal during massage, let her know what's good and what's just ok.

Kinda like telling a lover what you like and don't like, LOL, guess that's not a great way to say it.

Beth, you lucky thing!  I've never had one but used to go for regular and that Japanese massage, can't remember the name.  What luxury!  I loved every minute of it.  Must start again.  Thanks.

Hmm I went for a massage awhile ago.. just got a regular Swedish and let the lady massage my arm which had sentinel node biopsy on thinking that it should not matter (6 nodes were removed).. ouch.. the whole nerves in my arm  hurt for a couple of days there ( I was 4 months out of my mastectomy.. doing chemo).

    .

Also hot stone massage might not be good for those who have lymphedema issues/probability.

    .

But my favorite massage before the sh.. hit the fan was Thai massage.. ahhh.. they would just crack and open all my joints pounding on my back and stretching me out, at the end leaving me on the floor in a 'jello' state Money mouth. Not sure I will be able to get one after AND and recon..

Laura, you are too funny.. Retail therapy, well maybe if I can put a name to it my hubby will buy into it heh ?

Raye I feel sooo fat that I do not want to buy any clothes, but might be  a perfect time to get some bags/shoes .. hmm..

I loved Mary Kay's cleansing cream during chemo, helped my skin a lot, will try to get the firming eye cream.

Shiatsu, that's the name of the massage.  Really nice.

full massage on the mast arm is not recommended.  The most that should be done on that arm is like petting a kitten.

The warm stones are placed on your upper and lower back, not used on the arms or chest, in my experience.

I think we should get a nation wide petition going because I really think that ALL insurance companies should cover the following for ALL bc warriors:

UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF RT (retail therapy) -

no deductible, no limit, no EOB's...

    LOL

Has anyone tried the new Almay Smart Shades makeup or blush/bronzers?  They look interesting.  Turn color on your skin to the right shade for you, supposedly.

Laura - What a great idea - really, it could fall into the psychological category of our recovery, as it certainly makes us feel better. Yes, Trigeek - let's add a head massage as well, ahhh--- relieve our stress and encourage our hair to grow more quickly.

    I love it!

But...if a head massage is included, can a foot massage and life-time pedicures be included as well? You know...for those of us who lost our toe nails during chemo! LOL You girls are great!

It certainly may! In fact, it's a must - I can see the EOB now, "foot massage approved - necessary for relief of mental anguish upon discovering the irritating item in sock is indeed a detached pinky toenail."

Of course along with the foot massage comes the pedi and hell, why not a manicure and facial?

I had the hot stone massage today.  She combines it with Swedish, so I enjoyed it very much.

Tomorrow I'm going back to get exfoliated, and tanned before FL.  I'll let you all know how it comes out.

What about everyone's nails?  Do you have tips, silk wraps, regular manicures??? Anyone use a great top coat, or nail growth I should know about?

I've never used nail tips, they scare me. I will have a manicure every once in a while. I usually just cut mine with a nail clipper into a square shape (I find that emory boards tear my nails up!). A good top coat is Nail Tek XTRA. Here is a photo.

I used to buy it at my hair salon, but you can also get it online - about $11.00. I find that anything with formaldahyde (eeks, sorry Marin!!!) makes my nails nice and strong.

Trigeek - sooo true. I had this irritating poking inside of my sock - maybe it's a pebble? The swiftatch thing from the tag? Oh, of course, a toe nail! Laughing

Rockmom...I agree abut the Jergen's Natural Glow. Ever since I guilted myself into quitting the tanning bed (I miss it sooooo much!), I've been using the Jergen's. It's not the safest, as far as undesireable chemicals go, but it's inexpensive and better than the lamps....I guess....Cry

Hannah...As I've mentioned before, Burt's Bees Radiance Night Cream is terrific and free of both parabens and phlalates. I ues it for day wear and at night, though I use Dove's anti-aging night cream around my eyes and on my neck. It's very thick & creamy and it too is paraben-free.

As for nails, I think I've tried every brand around and always go back to Sally Hansen. My favorite everyday shade is Champagne Toast, while I use a Blackberry shade on my toes.

I went for a consultation today:

There's a new salon by my house. It's owned by an MD and she does skin procedures. I've always hated my blotchy skin and pores and fine lines. I would love to be able to feel comfortable with a light dusting of mineral powder sometimes, instead of always feeling like I must wear foundation. And then...since I was already there... LOL...clearing the throat...I mentioned the frown lines between my eyes and sure enough...it's nothing a quick injection of Botox can't fix! LOL Oh and then...I mentioned the (   ) parentheses north and south of my mouth and some wrinkles in my chinny, chin, chin...and sure enough...there's a quick fix for that too (Juvaderm injectable gel)! LOL

So - here's the plan: tomorrow I'm scheduled for a "peel" ($120) - they just smooth off some of the dead icky top skin layers. And then when I get back from MX at the end of Feb., I'm going to have 5 laser treatments one per week (Laser Genesis to remove wrinkles, pores, age spots and redness, total $1500) and maybe the Botox ($300) and maybe the Juvaderm ($500). They accept payments so you don't have to pay for it all at once. I'm going to wait a few years and then I'll have the gobble-gobble neck fixed. LOL

I'm still somewhat of a skeptic...but I think having each procedure done, step by step, will be the best way to go.

And...wanted to share this with you. My FAV body lotion, after a hot bath is Caswell Massey, (Refreshing Verbena), Shea Body Butter. It's awesome. Especially necessary if you don't have a water softener in your home or apt. It smells really good too!

Laura, you go, girl!  I love those who help keep this economy afloat. LOL

Actually, I am a big believer in peels.  I used to have them at my aesthetician's.  Stopped during chemo because of the fear of roughness and bleeding from minor abrasion.

Actually, my ps office treats skin, too.  Surprise, surprise.  They started me on a line of Vit A creams and potions.  Environ http://www.environ.co.za/ It has been working very well and I don't feel I need the peels at this time.

So-- got the tan applied at the spa the yesterday, and my hands look like I have vitaligo disease.  She did the tops of my hand, and not the fingers.  So matthew tried to fix it last night, and I woke up-- it's a little better, but I am totally embarassed about the fact that I havo to go to the nail place today, and they are all going to talk about me in korean, when they look at my hands.  I just know it.

    UGH.

BUT, the woman for some reason didn't do my breasts, so of course, matthew got all the spots she missed, and my abdomen, torso, back and shoulders look awesome.

I'll have to touch up the fingers tonight again.

the things we do to look good.

Tina - Thanks! Yup...I'm trying to prevent the impending resession! LOL I would like to check out those products. Are any of them unscented?

Beth - Okay...I'm confused...what type of tan (application?) did you get?

Girls - I listed all the procedures and prices so you would all have an idea of what to expect if you want to consider getting anything done. I'll let you know what works and what doesn't...so in other words...I'll be the thread guineau pig! LOL The peel that I had done today went fine. I haven't noticed anything yet, but by the morning, top skin layers will be flaking off...yuck! We'll see...
