inshock, well ---it's time you did! Make reservations or whatever at the place you both like, Have a few cocktails At HOme before you go(much cheaper) and GO.
a movie after and then, go for a night cap.
If you don't drink, just get fancy glasses and some candles and do that before you go out.
but still go for the nightcap, alcohol or not.
so civilized!

HAHAHAHAAHAH You have no idea how funny that is! We celebrated our 15 year anniversary 8 days after my bilat. mast. What a nice gift, huh? We have been out on a date exactly 2 times (yes 2) since our 9 year-old daughter was born, and one of those two we did out of need We needed to make sure my oldest daughter would be ok alone with the couple that offered to take her if I went into labor with her sister in the middle of the night. As far along as I was, there was very little fun about it! I can't think of a single place we both like, because we don't go out. The last time we went to a movie was about 19 years ago.....
-
Why?
-
I have no idea. I know I feel very guilty about leaving the girls with a babysitter when I have been away from them at work all day/week, PLUS we have a large dog that is always very happy to see new people, and ends up making them want to run for the hills. As for the rest of my clearly boring social (and love) life...
-
As Dr. Phil would say: And how's that working out for ya?
As parents I believe we must take care of outselves or we give everything and run dry.
Many Many couples, I'm included, just get in a rut and it seems to take way too much energy and thought to DO something. So much easier to watch TV, or read or whatever takes no energy.
I got really tired of it a while back and just said this has to stop.
We've been doing more and going out more.
It has made a lovely difference.
-
whoa! have had to read back--lots of "hijacks"....
ahhhh, Marin--sounds like you are in a most wonderful confused state--you will work it out!!!
VD (have to laugh at that abbr!) is our anniv...yeah, how corny is that--we were married on Valentine's Day. But, we do stuff all year long and we say, this is for your birthday, this for this, this is for that--none of it really means anything after all this time.
I would really like to come up with something knock your socks off kind of activity, but my mind--as well as purse--are flat out empty right now! any suggestions????

AlwaysHope...none of that Yahoo drink or whatever that was called here. Is that for real and if so..is it..uh..good???
Whoever asked if this was Nutello I was talking about..it is not. That is actually not all that bad (though I would not call that chocolate). However..it is similar to that. We get that as well.
Marin..should ever single woman be in such a position of confusion!!! I say just ride it out and see who wins! Once you get to know them, you will know quickly who you would prefer to continue going out with, I'm sure. Haven't dated in over 25 years so I'm just guessing on this one!!! Not sure how I could be married that long, though..am I really that old????
-
For those of you talking about Mt Airy and Pilot Mountain, are these the locations mentioned in the old Andy Griffith shows? Except they called it Mt Pilot. Just curious....and no doubt just dated myself...LOL
-
Make a coupon book for your sweetheart with coupons he can cash in when he wants, it can be for cooking, a favorite position...get it!, a trip to the dry cleaners, massage,to forgive an argument, go to a sport he loves and you don't, all kinds of different things and do it on Red construction paper and pretty it up with some paper lace and imagination. Give it to him with one of his favorite CD's. It's inexpensive and can be alot of fun if you "date them" that way you can spread it out over the year until next year. But the key to this gift is you have to honour your coupons even if you don't feel like it so if you choose this mission, just kidding, make sure it something your comfortable doing.Pearl49 Oh yeah I did this one year and he loved it and it really helped our relationship especially when things get boring.
-
Ravdeb -- nope the Yoohoo is for real. Its pretty good but I wouldn't drink them on a regular basis. Its kind of a nice change once in a while.
-
I didn't even know they still made Yoohoo!
-
OK, so Valentines Day for the dh....hmmm...we just take eachother out to dinner or make dinner...exchange cards...nothing big...but this wasn't about me now was it...you all want inexpensive suggestions.
Bubble bath, candles, soft musice, champagne, and whatever it may lead to....even if you haven't had sex in awhile...setting the moods and acting as if can be a wonderful boost to the libido...and your dh won't expect it.
Make a romantic dinner with several courses...set the table like you're in a restaurant...soft music, a nice bottle of wine...dancing afterwards....and like above...whatever it may lead to...
Send him an invite to a nice hotel...get there in advance and set the stage...meet him at the door in something he wouldn't expect....
What I'm getting at is the dh wants to know you still desire him...that's huge for a man.
OK, I'm going to hyjack just for a moment...wrote a funny poem about the SE's of chemo, which I just started last week...and even though I'm not feeling like the most sexy girl on the planet...I'm going for one of my own suggestions for VD...thankfully not an SE...maybe I should spell that out... since I'll be inbetween treatment dates...my dh has been such a trooper.
The Side Effects Circus 1/15/08
Ok, you’ve all been there.
You know what I mean
that morbid curiosity,
that little part of you
that wants to see the freak show
even though you know it isn’t polite
to look…let alone stare?
Well, have you been to the
Side Effects Circus lately?
Ladies and Gentleman,
people of all ages,
welcome to the only show on Earth
that will gladly exploit misery
and encourage you to watch…applaud even.
But more importantly…to laugh!
In this ring, with her posse of Pugs,
our very own juggler, Mucus Maiden.
She’s a veritable contradiction.
Her nose runs
and yet is so dry it bleeds.
Her eyes water,
and yet she needs eye drops to keep them moist.
Her mouth and throat
are filled with sores
(and…well…there is no opposite of that).
Notice her tool belt, and how deftly she manages
everything she needs with flawless effort?
Let’s ooohh and aaahhh everyone.
She’s sponsored by Kleenex, the makers of
saline nose spray and eye drops,
Blistex, and Biotene.
Overhead, on the flying trapeze,
Our Dame of Digestive Distress.
Look at her pale complexion
and how it morphs into a lovely
shade of green when she’s nauseous.
If you haven’t put on your rain poncho,
you may want to do that now.
You never know when she’s going to blow.
Be glad she’s overhead,
she’s so bloated from constipation
and the build up of gas,
she’s being studied
as an alternative energy source.
Give her a round of applause.
She’s sponsored by Colace, Gas Ex, Preparation H,
the makers of Compazine, and Pepcid AC.
Performing with the clowns,
our Ambassador of Annoying.
Her skin itches
and has become so dry,
she looks to be aging before our very eyes.
Her nails are brittle and discolored, and
her taste buds have left her in a state of blah.
But there is good news…
there is a rumor that she will be the spokesperson
(make up and soft focus lighting can do wonders)
for what advertisers are calling the next diet craze…
The Chemo Diet.
Isn’t she a site to behold?
She’s sponsored by Gold Bond lotion, Bare Minerals,
and the manicurist’s and pedicurist’s union #356.
And now…
The one you’ve all been waiting for…
Our main attraction in the center ring
riding the elephant,
our very own Heiress of Hair Loss.
Notice her bald head…isn’t it great?
There isn’t a hair on her head,
or anywhere else for that matter.
Smooth as a baby’s butt.
She’s been known to drop handfuls of hair,
like Hansel and Gretal dropping bread crumbs.
What is most amazing about her
is the fact that she’s a master of disguise…
we never know who will appear
from her dressing room after the show.
And can she tie a scarf…
like a Navy Seaman can tie knots!
Give it up for our Bald Beauty everyone.
She’s sponsored by the makers of DustBuster
and Draino, the Wig Makers Association,
and Scarves Are Us.
Thank you all so much for coming in today
to see the amazing Side Effects Circus.
Please stop by our gift shop on the way out
to sample all of our sponsors’ products
and to get a closer look and maybe an autograph
from all of our amazing circus performers.
SIS Kimberly
OK, now you may return to the Valentines Day inexpensive gift idea conversation. :-) -
Terry, yes, Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain, aka Mt Pilot, are the same places mentioned in Andy Griffith. Andy was from this area and wrote the stories based on characters he grew up with. They also talked about going to Raleigh. Nick @ Nite has put up a statue in Mount Airy to recognize the area as being on Andy Griffith.
Andy also was in the coastal production of 'the Lost Colony' when he was getting started in the theater.

OK, Kimberly, that's it! You are much too talented and clever to continue hiding your light under a bushel basket (or whatever that expression is?)! When you get a feel-good period, I think that you should definitely submit your poems to Coping magazine: http://www.copingmag.com/CopPages/CopAuth.html and to Mamm:
http://www.mamm.com/contact_us.php? Please share these gems (they really do rock, girl!) with other cancer patients and survivors!
I'd like to add that Pearl's idea regarding the coupon book (and CD) is the best! I've done that in the past with my daughter and it was a smash. And what guy doesn't like the anticipation of "special favors" from his woman??! Even if you're wealthy, it's a great idea!
~Marin

Kimberly, that poem is fantastic, you have to finish it I laughed out loud a few times, I love it. You hit the hammer on the nail with that poem. Perrrrfect. (Is hit the hammer on the nail an expression) I was thinking about a nose expression but couldn't remember it. Good ole chemo brain.
And Marin what are your thoughts are you going to just enjoy and have fun, I hope so. I love following your posts your my hero as well. I see Harry my sqirrel looking pityful on the porch for a treat so I'm signing off now. Pearl49 I have to take a picture of him he's fat.
-
Thanks for the kudos Marin and snowyday...I'll look at those links, Marin.
SIS Kimberly -
Not to change the subject - but that is the whole point of this thread, right? Did ya ever notice that when you tell someone you have/been diagnosed with BC, their eyes go right to your chest?
-
LOL- just get a tshirt with an arrow saying 'this one'!
-
Or..yes, they are real or NO they are not! I constantly feel I need to tell people I had a lumpectomy. WHY????
Encourage me to take apart my studio and redecorate please! I need some change down here. Want to start a business....
-
Oh kewl! What kind of business do you want to start Deb? I wish you would come and help me redecorate. Ever been to Arkansas? Want to see what its like? LOL!
-
Good morning ladies,
I think the shirt should say, "Yes, they are fake. My old ones tried to kill me."
A business....how exciting...what kind? So, this studio is your work space and needs a new look to get the new business going? Do you get satellite TV...there are so many wonderful decorating shows and organizing shows that will just inspire the heck out of you. There's one called Small Spaces Big Ideas that shows the creative ways people have transformed really small spaces into living/work space.
SIS Kimberly -
I suggested the t-shirt 'Yes, these are fake, my real ones tried to kill me' on another thread and they said that there are some available, but I have not found them online yet. I do like my 'fake' ones better they match! I had an A-cup on one side and a C-cup on the other.
-
I love the t-shirt ideas!
Ravdeb, good luck transforming your studio. What business are you starting? Hey, how 'bout t-shirts? <g>
-
I'm Hijacking this thread. As of this Friday I will be retired.
Now, you might ask--How will I fill the time? I've already gotten a green light to volunteer at our Lymphedema Clinic a few hours a week. I'm back to getting my sewing room reorganized and started to quilt a wall hanging I designed years ago.
Hubby & I spent the weekend cleaning out bookcases. He took 5 bags of books to the local secondhand bookstore. Hope to get a few bucks. I put all my quilts (some I made and antique ones I bought on the empty bookcase.
I can't believe I will be retired, as I could have worked 9 more years if I wasn't so disabled by my Lymphedema.
I enjoy coming to this thread so much.
Kimberly--Marin is right! You need to get those poems published. You have a talent and a gift. You can always self publish. Lots of the books on Amazon and other book sites are self published.
Marin--hope you do what the ladies here say and just keep dating them all. You are definitely in a non-drought area when it comes to men. I have single girlfriends that complain all the time that anyone they date is either married or probably shouldn't ever marry!
i just had to share my good news about retiring. I think my journey is taking another jog and I'm so excited!
grace -
Grace, I'm so happy for you.... Once you get in your grove,
you'll wonder how you ever fit WORK into your schedule..
My hubby has been retired for a year and simply loves it...
so our two little girls (mini schnauzers) keep him moving and motivated
-
Are you saying that someone really sells t-shirts like that?
-
Yup...you can order them here:
-
OH MY GOSH! Too funny! I wonder why kind of reaction people get when they wear it!
-
LOL Kimberly!!!! Ilove that line!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ravdeb......Get a move on girlfriend!!! That studio wont redo itself!!! LOL
-
Morning All,
Just a quick check in before i head off the the plastic surgeon for another fill up...speaking of fake boobs. I have one more fill up after this one and then expanding is done...my boobs, not my mind or my horizons. ;-)
I did see that post somewhere about the t-shirt. I think someone else said cafepress.co had them.
I think the message is a good one...don't judge me!
For all of you who are encouraging me to publish...I did submit some poetry to the links Marin sent to me...so we'll see.
Off I go. Have a great day!
SIS Kimberly
