I went to the eye dr. for an ordinary annual exam and the new eye dr. asked me if anyone had ever told me I had an eye wiggle. I can't remember the technical name he said it was called but "googled" it and think the term is nystagmus. He said it's very slight and may be congental and just not noticed before or it could be new. He said it's very possible it's nothing to worry about (he also seemed to think that my not being dizzy or off balance is a good sign?). He also said it's possible for some kind of neurological mass to be causing it! I go back in two weeks for a visual field test. Naturally, my mind immediately went to a brain tumor and am a little panicky right now. I looked it up on the internet and what I found said the same thing pretty much and also mentioned MS. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?

    Thanks.

Pat, I do not know anything about this, but I did google it out of curiosity. You may have read this already, but I thought I'd post it anyway.  I believe there are some studies on this site that you can click on.

Magnesium deficiency is a possible common link. Though it does not appear to be standard medical practice to test nystagmus patients for nutritional deficiencies, based on the existing body of research available on the PubMed database this would seem like a highly logical consideration. There are a number of independent medical papers that have shown nystagmus being completely cured from safe and inexpensive nutritional therapy.

Geez louise!  As if we didn't have enough paranoia as BC-survivors, to have the optometrist hint at something so unthinkable!

No advice, just sending warm, positive thoughts your way that this is nothing to be concerned about (except maybe an overly thorough doctor!).

You may have had this forever and it was only picked up because you saw a new doc. I often find that new doctors pick up on things (or mention things) that are new just because they are a enw set of eyes.

My niece and nephew both have nystagmus and are fine.
