Hello - somehow I have missed this thread.  Guess its cause I havent had much computer time lately.  Anyways I agree I like "Dying for a Cure."

I ordered lots of stuff from cafepres for Christmas presents.  It worked out great.  I think maybe the Pinkstockers also used Cafepres.

    Hi G,

I copied this from my post on the previous page.  Re .. the family members ... I sure hope they'll be involved as this is a Memorial to their mother's, wives, daughters and sisters.

Above all, we need to keep in mind that as a Memorial, the family's of the fallen will be involved as well.  This is also a tribute to them.  They are the survivors of the disease in every sense of the word.  They know THERE IS NO CURE.  And I hope whatever we come up with will keep this in mind.  We honor them, as well as the angels we have lost.

Hi Everyone - there is the latest on what is happening.

Brenda has contacted the moderators again and was told that our request is being worked on for the special forum.

She is also going to send the application into the Parks Service with a random date for 2008.   She was told that if the date was taken they would contact her to discuss it.  We both thought this was the right thing to do since it will, at the very least, get us in contact with them.

So don't give up hope, the wheels are in motion.  Keep checking this thread for more updates until we get our own forum.

    Thanks for the great support,

    Valerie

Thanks Valerie for posting the update.  I just wanted to remind you guys that I had already contacted the Mall park permit office and they had said all dates for 2008 were filled.  But I'm going to apply for one anyway and pay the fee, because that way they will call me (as they told me this was their procedure) and we can at least get a dialogue going with them AND we will be on the books, and if 2008 is indeed booked, then we'll get first pick for 2009!!!  (I like the end of June personally - weather is better and kids are out of school.)

I'm really busy with work until this weekend, but I'm still pushing forward with this.

Tender posted a great article on the Recurrence forum under the "Why are we letting this happen to us" thread.

Okay, I'll catch up with you guys soon.  Back to work for me.

    Love and thanks,

    Bren

I was dismayed to hear that the MOW might be moved to 2009.  It'll be a post election year.

Oops, I clicked submit by mistake.

Well, if it's to be 2009, we have more time to get more publicity on board.

Bimmer is back, and I finally found the thread.

I am mad as hell and motivated. I will attend in June.

Please tell me what I can do?

    Write a better commentary?

    Bimmer,

I'm so glad you found us.  I don't know what date we'll get yet.  The permit people told me all of 2008 was booked, but I'm going to Fedex the permit application with the date of Sunday 6/28/08 anyway.  They will surely deny it, BUT they will then call me to start a discussion.  That's the way they do it.  It's a start, but at least we'll get going on a firm date. I will avoid a Saturday date.

Also, I emailed Melissa again about getting our own separate forum for the project.  She's talking to her main tech guy again about getting this set up.

Bimmer, we'll need your eloquent words for a mission statement, flyers, and motivation to keep the gals going.  A Memorial March is very emotional as opposed to a Komen march or ACS relay.  We walk for Diane and the mothers, sisters, wives and daughters we have lost and we aren't asking for money, just acknowledgment that they lived and cancer has taken them.

As soon as we get our own forum, we'll be better able to set up threads with the different areas that need to be worked out.

    Here are some logistical considerations:

    Logos

    T-shirts, etc. (cafepress.com)

    Transportation

    Parking at the Mall

    Lodging

    Flyers

    Press - nationwide - worldwide

    water/snacks at the Mall

    Signs/Posters for Marchers

Can you think of anything else?

We'll keep you really busy!  Thank you for everything.

    Your friend,

    Bren

PS -Beth was going to meet with Lance Armstrong's people and I sure hope she got lots of really good info for us!!

I will gladly do whatever I can.

I have much to say. I also have much that I do not want to say.

Watching your wife die from breast cancer is much worse that even I expected.

We must do something to bring that number down from 40,910.

    I am amazed.

    RE: Parking at the Mall.

Well, it's limited to few spots. Most people visiting Washington leave their car at their hotel or whereever and use the Smithsonian Metro for walking access to the Mall.

If staying in Northern Virginia, for example, on a Sunday you could drive to the Huntington Metro, which has ample parking, leave your car there, and it's a short Metro ride in to the Smithsonian stop.

I'm thinking about this aspect some....

    Thank for the info Tender.

One of those links has info about taking the Metro into the park due to lack of parking at the Mall.  They also noted another "metro" type, but I can't remember it right now.  I'll have to go back and look.

thanks again for checking into this.

    Hi Everybody,

I'm Fedexing the permit today along with the $50 check.  On the permit they wanted to know what kind of transportation we would be using in and out of the park.  I put down the Metro.  If you use the links above you can find out info about the Metro.  Not everyone will have to use this and we have plenty of time to figure it out, but I had to put something down ... and they recommend using this mode of transportation.

I also put down the date as Sunday 06/22/08.  I wasn't sure what to put down for how many would attend, so I put 100.  Anything over 750 would have required that I make arrangements for Marshalls to be there, etc.  I also put down that our area of marching would be the National Mall.  Any of this can be changed when they call me.

Since they've already told me over the phone that 2008 is booked, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I also find another t-shirt site that has camoflauge-type t-shirts and printing services.

Here's the link if you want to check it out.

    http://www.bluecotton.com/

We could all wear camo t's with our logo, msg printed on them.  The pink ribbon with black outer line would probably stand out nicely.

    What do you gals think?

I'll email Melissa, again, and find out what's going on with our separate forum, so we can get going.

    Thanks,

    Bren

PS - Has anyone heard from Beth about her meeting with Lance's people?

This sounds all very good, Bren. If you pm me your address, I'll happily give a contribution towards the required permit fee.

Yes, metro, mall, 100... we can go from there.

How are people with the date? June in Washington can be variable, sometimes hot, but usually mid 80's with some humidity. I think Congress comes out of session later...

    Thanks,

    Tender

    Hi Tender,

Nope ... no contribution needed for the fee.  Everyone will end up contributing in some way.

About the date, it seemed quite a few responded with a request not to have it on a Saturday, so I avoided that, and lots have children in school, so wanted to avoid that.  Then we have to factor in the weather in DC, so I went for late June.  Except, I think Komen has a walk somewhere on 6/22/08.

Hopefully the other gals will jump in with their preference.  Will also need to look at the calendar for 2009.  Need to get an idea on the date for this year or 2009 before the Parks office calls, and even a few alternative dates, just in case.

I talked to Layne about Congress and budgets.  She said the budgets for NIH have already been decided on through 2009 and they are fast at work on 2010 already.  We already know no one is in DC in August, so we can avoid that month.

It's coming together, slowly, but surely!

    Love,

    Bren

    Hi Everybody,

Doreen and Dottie ... you crack me up!  Doreen I've seen your picture .. you're lovely!!

Good news!!  I got the permit application FedExed today. They'll have it tomorrow by 3:00 p.m.  I don't know how long it takes for them to actually open it and call me ... I think it has to be x-rayed or something first ... at least I know regular mail does.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I hear something!

    love,

    Bren

Just wanted everyone to know that I fedexed the permit and fee on Wed. 1/9 and I'm still waiting to hear from DC.  Have no idea how long it takes for them to open their mail.  If I don't hear from the today, I'll call the permit office tomorrow and see if they have received it.

    Thanks everyone!
