Has anyone out there had a modified radical mastectomy without clean margins. I am scheduled Thursday-Jan. 17 for another surgery to remove more tissue. I am a little surprised. I've heard of this with lumpectomy. I am really concerned about my tram flap reconstruction. My Ps seems to be alright with it. My surgeon spoke to him... I have not yet. If there is anyone out there that can give me some input I would appreciate it.

    Hi Kathleen,

You might want to post this question under the surgery or reconstruction topics because it's not exclusive of ILC, and might get more responses.

    Hello Kathleen,

It is a tad unusual to not have clean margins after a mastectomy. Clean margins are the goal, and usually it's a matter of millimeters of persistent involvement, so going back and obtaining these non-involved edges are really important.

Your PS should be able to recover those millimeters when excising the tissue for the Tram-Flap.

    All the best, Tender
