    Hi ladies,

    Its almost Friday again :)...

Earlier this week we got hit with some really strong winds, there has been some severe flooding in my state but nothing close to where I live...I had alot of downed tree branches and power was out off an on but nothing major :)...

Sure wish our weather would figure itself out!!!. Last week we had 3 inches of snow and freezing, this week: winds and 63 degrees, hence no more snow :(......but the days have been beautiful....now hopefully things wont start to grow an freeze!!!!!

Our mountains are beautiful here right now....all snow covered and crisp looking.....I am going up the mountain this weekend to learn to snowboard so will take pics to show you ladies....

Hope all is wonderful and happy today!!!!

    Hi ladies.

It is Friday again. We have a a 'little' rain here but not enough to relieve the drought conditions. The rain and winds that we have had knocked all the leaves off the trees. They stayed beautiful longer than normal (close to a month) because of the dryness and lack of winds. I am with you Jule about the weather figuring itself out. Last night we had light freezing rain morn temp about 33 and afternoon about 45 but by Tues we should be having morning tems about 50 and afternoon temps in the 70's. No wonder my sinuses don't know what to do.

I went to the county Cancer Center Christmas party last night and it was great.

I got up this morning to realize that my car had been broken into last night (I did not have it locked), fortunately I don't have any valuables in there but the neighbor had a new GPS unit stolen from their car. I will start locking it now (my dh is giving me an XM radio for Christmas).

    Hi gals!

The results to my PET scan came back and it looks like I am doing well so far! What a nice present.... the opposite of last Christmas!

    Thanks for all your prayers!

Hello everyone, I'm still here. I didn't realize it's been over a week since my last post. I recovered from those vaccine shots by the time of my party with the water aerobics group on Dec 7, but I felt lousy for a few days there.

I had my diagnostic Mammogram on Dec 6. They took the usual 4 views plus an extra shot of the area around the lumpectomy scar where it puckered on the main view. After they reviewed the mammos, they let me go. I didn't need any other procedures.

On Dec 13, I saw the radiation oncologist for a follow up visit. She made sure I was doing good and said that I won't need to have another mammo until next Dec.

Later on the 13th, I went to the Podiatrist for my first diabetes foot exam. I'm doing good there, too. I felt all the little pokes with the monofilament and the blood flow to my feet is strong. He gave me some inserts to help with the lingering Neuroma (he called it that, I guess it isn't severe enough to call it Neuropathy) left from my Taxol treatments.

I had a great time on the mega chat with my friends on Saturday the 8th, even though I didn't get my package until Monday. It came all the way from Australia and it was worth the wait.

The hubby and I delayed our trip to Houston until this coming Monday and Tuesday because of cool rainy weather last week. I hope the weather is better this week.

    Take care.

Ms S Great news about your pet scan results.

Debbie Great news also about your mammo and trips to the other doctors.

Friday night at the company Christmas party, I won $20 at name that tune. We were only supposed to win once but after my first win of $10 with 'I will survive!', the next song nobody knew but me, I wispered it to the lady next to me (Even Now by Barry M) and she stood up with the answer and gave me the $10. The Childs Christmas program at church was great last night. I still have a little shopping to do - mainly gift cards.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas season

Spent the day at the hospital with my son while he had tests on his heart... there's no further problems so that is good news

Got my nipple 6 days ago and I keep looking at them... still bruised, etc. but definitely look more like boobs now

have decided that next year I will take a holiday at Christmas

Got my documents ready for my passport today so I can be ready for my trip to the Mayan Riviera in January

I will post my good news. I got my nipples yesterday. I am not having any pain compared to the previous surgeries I had this year. The hospital finance office called me on Wed to say that I would be responsible for $577 for yesterday's surgery and I begged to differ. I told them that I hit my out of pocket max in June during my bilat mast and that the insurance would pay 100%. They apologized for the error, then yesterday when I got to the hospital I was again told that I had to pay $577 for the procedure that day. I again asked them to double check with my insurance. They had to apologize again. Sometimes we have to be persistant to get what we deserve.

so much for my rant on hospitals and insurance companies.

Merry Christmas to all my online friends.

Sheila, great news that you had your surgery and you are not in pain. That is except for explaining the insurance cap to everyone who asks for a payment.

You too, hi5. I hope the bruising continues to fade.

I hope both of you are feeling and looking normal soon.

I didn't get near my out of pocket cap, it's nice to know it's there if you need it, though.

I saw the medical oncologist today for a follow up visit. The medical asst. asked all kinds of questions, and it was hard to think of answers for all of them. Basically, I feel great except for a hot flash every now and then.

The inserts the Podiatrist sold me last week have lessened the back pain I've had since I started Aromasin back in September, plus my feet are getting used to shoes again after wearing the Croc-style clogs all year.

I got the results back from the test my PCP had done on Dec 3. I couldn't believe how good they came out. I've been controlling my intake of carbs since the diagnosis of Diabetes in June so my weight is down almost 20 pounds, and all my numbers are in the normal range, now.

Merry Christmas to all of you. Have a warm and wonderful Holiday.

    HI Everyone Laughing

I would like to join this club too!  I had a mastectomy in June and just recently had my reconstruction.  I feel the same way as you all do and would like to wish everyone one a happy and healthy new year going forward.

Welcome, Jlil, there's always room for another person here. Most weeks we try to check in on Friday with at least one positive thing that happened during that week. At first I read your "name" as Jill, then I noticed where the letters really were.

I missed last week, but here I am now.

I had a good, but quiet Christmas with just my husband and me. We opened our gifts on Christmas Eve each taking 2 gifts an hour until we had opened them all. My hubby got me 4 banks (3 piggies and 1 mouse) for my collection, 5 angels, including one that's a bell pendant, and a few other things. I got him clothing, food, and one of those dynamo flashlights that doesn't need batteries.

We plan to stay in for New Year's Eve. We bought some munchies the other day at Sam's, and I made up some dips today.

I wish a safe and Happy New Year to all of you.

I did not get to post last week but my son called before Christmas from Singapore to wish me a Merry Christmas. We have been exchanging emails while he is deployed. I got my stitches out today and go back to my PS in two weeks. I also will be staying in tonight for the New Year with my Hubby. He doesn't go back out on the road until Tomorrow evening. We also got about 2 inches of rain this past weekend! it did not bust the drought of -17 inches but it did make a difference.

Jlil, Welcome to the Positive Girls Club. We like to hear all kinds of positive news.

I wish all a save and Happy New Year and finding a cure for BC.

Just popped in to say hi to all of you.  I have missed each and every one!  I am once again with a drain (named Duke) and now have an expander where the implant used to be.  Path report from that surgery came back with a dx of DCIS but luckily I have already had the masts, so I may just need to take Tamoxifen later.

Will be back for some good news when I get some!

Oh Sheila, it has been too long.  I occasionally run into Jule on Yahoo messenger but we haven't "talked" for a while.  I remember you gettign ready for surgery because it was right after mine.  I feel much better today than I have since the 27th so that is encourageing.  I do hope the drain slows down so it can come out.  At this point, Duke is in the way more than anything but I understand the ps's reasoning to leave it in longer to make sure I do not have another infection brewing.  So I guess I DO have good news this afternoon!

Well I have some good news/bad news, the incident in the news yesterday about the Iranian Republican Guard ships making threatning moves to 3 US Navy vessels came close to home. My son is on the USS Port Royal, one of the ships threatened, and he sent me a text Sunday about a sticky situation with the Iranian ships but he was ok. It was after reading and seeing the news yesterday that I freaked out.

Hopefully Duke will be gone soon.

I know that when he joined he would be put in dangerous situations, but I thought that he would be safer on a ship than on the ground. But I should remember the USS Cole incident that happened it the same area he is in now. Right after he left for basic, there was a report that the Cole was back in service and they showed the ship before it was fixed with the gaping hole in the side from the suicide boaters and I almost lost it right then in the Firehouse Sub shop. He will be at sea until May or June. At least he was able to come home this past June right after my surgery for 10 days funeral leave (my father-in-law passed away)

I have missed everyone posting also

Hello everyone. The hubby and I had lot's of munchies for New Year's Eve just like we had planned, plus a glass of wine. I took my Blood Glucose after lunch so had my share of the munchies that evening without worrying about how high my number would be after I ate.

It sure is nice to get back to my routine. For the week and a half before Christmas I didn't get to my exercise class at all. I've been back on schedule since Jan 2, though.

Beth, glad to hear that your surgery went OK. How many more movie/rock stars do you have on your drain name list? I hope this will be it for you, and you won't have to use them.

Sheila, I hope your son stays out of harms way. That incident was scary when I heard it on the news, and I didn't know anyone on the ships. One of the ladies in my water aerobics class has a son in Iraq as a Corpman in a Marine unit. She is keeping us entertained with some of his stories, but I'm sure there are some scary times he doesn't share with his mom.

I'm looking forward to a Great 2008 sticking to my diabetes food plan, loosing a bit more weight, and taking care of myself.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for me and the sailors on the ships involved. My son has frequently called to say 'I love you mom, don't worry about me. Guess what happened the other day.' and goes on to tell something that could have been dangerous if the Lord was not looking in on the ship. One time it was a near electrical fire in the ammo room he is responsible for right above the fuel tank and he was on duty when that happened. They were off the coast of Hawaii doing local manuevers.

I also am looking forward to a great 2008, I went to the first yoga class of the year last night, am attending the orientation meeting for the new volunteers at the local wig bank next week, and vowing to walk at least 30 minutes 4 times a week.

Jule, my IM friend!  so glad to see you.  I spied MissS over on one of the word game threads.  Maybe we need to prod her back here and play catch up!  Speaking of which, how are the newlyweds?

Sheila, saying my prayers for your son.  I just know he will be OK with all of us sending him cyber wishes.

Debbie, diabetes is a very silent disease and not easy to deal with.  My mom and I went to diabetic education classes together since I am her main caregiver and we learned so much.  It was well worth it.

Sorry I missed the holidays with all of you but you were never far from my thoughts!

Yes, Beth, I learned so much at the diabetes education classes my PCP sent me to in July just after my diagnosis. When I spoke about it with my neighbor who was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago, she said her doc didn't send her to a class. I gave her the phone number for the nurse and dietitian who taught my class, and they got her doc on their list. I went to her classes with her in December. Most of the people at her class bought someone with them so I was glad I went with her for support. I also refreshed my memory on a few of the points.

I'd recommend the diabetes education classes to anyone who is newly diagnosed or hasn't ever been to one. Diabetes isn't just about cutting out sugar, it's more about controlling all carbs and spreading them through out the day and taking your medication. It's all in the choices you make.

So far I'm doing fairly well. My A1c was 9.8 in June but it was down to the normal range at my check up in Dec. There were similar drops in my cholesterol numbers, too. The podiatrist recommended custom orthotics to help my foot issues (tingly toes) left over from chemo so they don't get worse with the diabetes.

I missed Friday to post here but I do have a good positive trend happening.  The drain is putting out much less and I hope within a few days it can be pulled.

Debbie, I went with my mom to the gp's office and her A1C was up from 6.9 back last May to 8.2.  She is also hitting the 200 and sometimes the 300 range.  He upped her Lantus and told her how to work a sliding scale on the Humalog.  She is not cooperating with going back to the endocrinologist and it frustrates me even more.

Sheila, how are you hanging in there?  Sending your son cyber hugs.

Beth, there isn't much you can do to force your mom to take care of herself. She has to take the responsibility for her own health. Good news about Duke, though, I hope he'll be outta there soon.

I didn't do all that much this week, mainly "normal" stuff. I made it to my water aerobics class on Mon, Wed, and Fri. I was running a little late each day, but there was still room in class when I got there. I feared that the New Year's resolution people would fill up all 18 spots and I'd have to miss class.

I'm planning the January lunch for the ladies, and I've had 11 sign up already. It's looking like I'll have a good crowd.

Welcome to this thread Bubbly. As Beth said we help support each other with our positive thoughts through the rough times as well as the good times.

Lori is the person who started this thread last year and in August she posted that she was having some problems. I found out that she lives about 30 miles from me and suggested meeting somewhere. She contacted me via the private message and I gave her more information about me and now I am waiting to hear from her again.

Sheila et al, I wrote to you at your e-mail, your work I think,so Monday you should be able to get it...sorry about all the absence etc.  I just don't even remember what was going on with me in August.  There are so many medical issues and PTSD from other stuff that often I have nightmares that disrupt my routine.  Doc put me on an adjusted meds routine so I am getting more sleep and less pain.  At this point I am cancer free and will be done with treatment in April.  All is looking good with the cancer.  However, I have Diabetes Type 2, High Blood Pressure, Post Polio, Fibroymaylgia, PTSD, Actue Anxiety Disorder, that pesky old broken arm that rebroke and splintered and then came the cancer....so it sometimes gets rough on what to treat and with what meds etc.  I was in the hospital in October (5 days) and November (3) with a "life threatening" infection, but they were able to identify and antibotics put it all right.  I spend most of my time knitting and crocheting and doing scrapbooking with photos from a lifetime!  I am also writing my autobiography (with writer's block of sorts) and fatigue easily so nap a lot.  Can't' 'get out much.  Enjoy life to the fullest.  Some days are better than  others and I have so many interests that I get caught up on the internet researching etc.  My life has really been full.  That is my 65 years of it!  It has been interesting to be sure...bizarre, but interesting, a little James Bond, a little Star Trek and a little The Girl Next Door.  Adventurous, Intriguing, and yet very simple.
