    Hello beautiful ladies,

I'm not working today, so I'm continuing my quest for answers to this cancer solution.  I've been researching stress and cancer connection, and melatonin.  My mother has had sleeping trouble for about 10 years.  She's 82 now.  It's been a real big deal for her.  She talks about it all the time.  Has been taking ambien on and off.  Well, she was first diagnosed with the 3c ovarian almost 6 years ago, then the 1b DCIS 5 years ago.  She and I had a MAJOR disagreement 8.5 years ago (It was a really small thing, but she blew it WAY out of proportion).  What I'm saying, and asking, is there a link between poor sleep caused by stress or decreased melatonin levels, and development of cancer.  I would appreciate any of your thoughts if you believe yours developed because of above factors, and read this very interesting article.  Thankyou!

    Hi Lisa,

I think I shared with you that my Mom is 83.  We got her a rebounder with rail for Christmas.  Have you had time to check out the benefits of rebounding.  They are VERY impressive.  It has been part of my regimen for the last couple of months and I love it!!  It might answer some questions for you regarding your Mom having trouble sleeping.  Also - it is a wonderful stress reducer!!  I experienced a very traumatic situation in my life 3 years before my bc dx and have no doubt that it played a part in the outcome.

Anyway, if we could get your Mom rebounding I believe it would be great for her!!

    God bless,

    Genesis

Interesting question about sleep.  I've always had night terrors (like since I was a teenager and am now 52).  They happen once a night, many nights, after I've been sleeping for an hour and half.  Anyone who knows about night terrors, knows there is this common feeling that you've forgotten something like a medicine that if you don't take it now, you will die.  Or there is the sense that someone has just entered the room.  My common response is to get out of bed and flee.  I've tried melatonin and prescribed drugs.  The melatonin didn't really help and the drugs, well, they are drugs so don't want to take.

The interesting thing is that right after I was diagnosed with BC, they stopped.  Maybe had one all during treatment.  Had a second one last week.  Don't know what to make of it.

The closer I got to menopause the more problems I had sleeping.  It really got bad about three years ago. Right about the time I think the cancer was probably growing.  Also had major emotional adjustment at that time.

Sleep has been fairly illusive for awhile now.  It appears to be a physical problem, not mental or emotional.  I want to sleep. I have tried a variety of natural and OTC medicine.  Sometimes they work.  Sometimes they dont.  Take ambien in a pinch.

    Dear Genesis,

My Mom has had both hips replaced, and would fear a rebounder.  She'd never do it, but thanks.  I'm just trying to get her to walk, but she's afraid to do that without anyone there in case she falls....

    Hi ladies,

Thanks so much for response on sleeping.  Hmmm, does seem to be inter-connected.  I can't sleep with my hubby because he is noisey.  I usually start there, then move to the spare.  I know with all we've heard about getting those 8 hours, it's bound to create some anxiety.  I just find the sleeping/stress/cancer connection fascinating.  Would anyone be up for an experiment?  I would love to see if we can use this EFT technique to change our thoughts, anxiety, and thus possibly our sleeping pattern.  Please respond, and if it's okay with the board, I'll post the website again.  It's free, you just follow along with this really cute British guy.  No downloading, just click on the video.  Thanks ladies!

    Lisa,

Sleep is a very necessary and important time for the body to rejuvinate and repair.  I know we aren't supposed to recommend any products by name, so I'll not recommend what I use when I have difficulty.  I use Bach Flower's Rescue Remedy.  I'm not recommending it, you understand, just telling you what I use.  If you decide to try it, it's not my fault....nope, not at all.

Debbie- Read your post and found the experience you described interesting and also that it stopped when you started chemo interesting. I wonder if on some unconscious level your body knew that there was a problem and was trying to alert you- just thinking about the content you described- there's some medicine I must take (chemo, etc?) or I'll die- there's an intruder in the house but vague who it is (breast cancer?). I've read that in the "language" of dreams houses are often symbolic of the body. I realize that this interpretation may be totally off the mark.

As for me and sleep- Xanax and more recently melatonin. Also sometimes pain reliever- I've had severe arthritis in my spine for years and pain from this is the main culprit in my sleep problems. Also listen to relaxation/imagery or insight meditation talks via podcast on my ipod when I go to bed. So far I haven't strangled on the earphone wire. Allyson
