    Hi girls,

Sounds like everyone had a fun Christmas. We sure did. I got some great gifts, had fun with the family, shopped yesterday after working for a few hours. Now, to take the tree down today or not....

Janie, maybe you should just get the work over with and enjoy your last few days?

    Later girls...

Hey everyone, hope you are all winding down and getting ready to start a new year. I heard on T.V. a dr. said breast cancer pts. survive longer when they are in a group of loving support. Makes sense. Anyone got big plans for New Years Eve? We will watch King of Queens and the local news and probably fall asleep on the sports. We are so unpredictable. We could go out and eat but I don't know if we could get in. I don't really want to be on the road anyway. Oh well, I better go. Have a good Sunday. Hugs, Mare

Hey everybody.  Hope you all are warm, healthy and happy and facing a great new year.  PJ, I did work the lst day option yesterday and am glad it is behind me.  My office is unpacked and ready to go Wednesday when the munchkins arrive.  Mary, believe or not the old lady (me) has a date New Year's Eve.  It is shaping up to be a good evening.  Good Sunday to all!

Ooh, Janie, a New Year's Eve date? Is there more expected of one of those than on other nights of the year? :) Hope you have a great time.

We're going over to some friends, but we'll be asleep long before the new year arrives.

Whew. Family finally is gone. A friend is here, but he's more just like another member of our normal little family than a visitor.

Beautiful day today. Must be 70 outside, and it's sunny. Loving it.

Happy New Year to all of you!

It has been rainy here for several days and we all thrilled because of the recent drought.  Had to remember where I put the ol umbrella.  TN plays tomorrow in the Outback.

Yeah, Janie, we're anxious to hear how the date was? A lemon or a keeper?

Drank too much of that healthy red wine last night. Do NOT feel like going to work tonight....

    Hey ladies,

The Outback was played in Tampa.  TN won by a few points.  How did Illinois do?

Definitely a keeper girls.  Even brought me some chocolates along with the champagne.  Had a very good evening and ringing in of the New Year.

Hope eveyone is having a great New Year's.  I called in a prescript refill for PD and have to go pick it up.  I have two pills left and go back to work tomorrow..... so unless I want to "shake everybody up" I had best go get the refill.

    Later girls,

    J

Hey girls, P.J. ya gotta watch that wine, sounds like you are going to be pretty healthy once you get over the side effects. Janie, I am really glad for you. Chocolates, the way to a womans heart. Glad to hear Tn. won. U of I. plays today in Calif. in the Rose Bowl. They are the underdogs. I would really like to see them win because everyone thinks Calif. will walk right over them. It is snowing and really blowing. Blustery I might say. Not the kinda weather I want to be out in. I am really going to have to get the spurs in my shoulder out. They just hurt all the time. They dig in my meat like sharp metal spikes. Oh well. I will get that going. They had to reduce my thyroid med. thats scary but I don't feel so jittery and that feels good! I just hope it don't start swelling again. I can't imagine what it is doing now. I have never been this low on my meds. but I am praying it is getting better. Who knows. Well better get. Really glad you girls had fun lastnight. Later, Mary

Hey Girls, Chilly but warming up to get cold again. That is always pleasant so you can really freeze after warmer weather. Warmer means 40's. They had a day of 50 in the forecast but I think the weathermen like to taunt everyone. So hows everyone?  I have had grandkids and now I have my place to myself except for hubby. I am going to start some supper. My old boss would tell me everytime I said "supper" that I must of been raised back woods because it is dinner. I ignored his inconsiderate ignorance most the time but I would say yea maybe but my parents were always around and gave us lots of love and taught us not to say things to hurt others. Oh well, I better get. Hope everyone has a good wk. end. I think we are going out to eat tomorrow to this great place. I better get, Hugs. Mare

    Hey, Mary, what's for supper?

OK, you guys have to paste this address and read this story. It's most disconcerting. About how bad a job many labs do on HER/hormone tests. Which is NOT a good thing for us.

P.J., I have read about that the Fish test is the best and if you did not have the Fish test done you should ask them to do it and I have thought about that. They can go back and do it. I had the indohistochemistery done. I have read where like 6 of ten positive test done indohist. are neg. for Her2 on the Fish test. There are only the 2 test and Fish test are the best for reliability. I also read where the neg. scores can be equally as off and really be positive. I just never have come to ask for a bio. using the Fish. I think most of the big labs are using only the Fish now. I wonder if it all makes any diff. because some have a very small tumor with no pos. nodes and theirs comes back before someone with her2 or bigger tumors etc. I do think it would be important for those who was dxed. with "no" her2 and they "are" her2 because they need the Herceptin. Maybe us who got the Herceptin and those that were not really her2, well maybe the Herceptin made a difference and is good for other cancers too. Oh evey! My mind is boggling. I have to ask one of the grandkids to cut and paste for me and I will read the article. Yea, I am a computer inept. It is a bit warmer today. You can go out with a coat on and not scream because your muscles tense up so tight from the cold you can't breath or relax your butt cheeks. The cold will return for another 2 or 3 months. Jan. and Feb. are the worse. Later girls, have a great wk. end. Hugs, Mary

O.K. I asked my puter how to cut and paste and I did it. I will forget but I can ask again. Thats pretty crappy. The almighty dollar is much more important than life. If the CEO of one of those insurance companies got B.C. and had a mixed up test I bet things would change but since there are more men in command of these companies we don't have a chance. I think the numbers are much greater than they state too. I know here on the boards their are gals that have been retested with the Fish and had false Indo. test the first time. It is also amazing what money is wasted by resurch. Maybe if they had people with the desease heading and watching these places things would change. O.K. I am stepping off the soap box now. Mary

Hi...I'm back from Cyberspace...I got a new computer and it's on DSL so it's really fast and I don't get so frustrated trying to get hereYell  I had the Fish test to find out I had to have Herceptin...My doctor just ordered it...now I guess I realize I'm lucky to have a smart doctor???WinkOkay, I've been gone for much too long except for the occasional E-mail...I've missed you all...PJ, Janie & Mary, It's kinda like we are the 4 corners of this soft, comfy blanket and we can all just roll up in it and revel in the warmth....I promise that I will try, try, try to keep my corner occupied from now on...that's kind of a crazy analogy, but I think that the the 3 of you can probably understand what I'm trying to say...gonna go eat some late lunch...Life is GoodSmileSmilesSmileNancyLeeLaughing

Welcome Back, NancyLee! Boy, isn't fast internet a dream? I can't believe I used to use dial-up and didn't kill myself out of frustration.

When they tested my recurrence tumor, the onc had everything retested. He really wanted me to be HER+ in some ways because of Herceptin....

BEAUTIFUL day here in the 70s (sorry Mary). But I'm sure we'll get ours soon.

What a revolting development it would be to find out the DX was wrong after all the treatment was over.  Mine was done at Valdosta and then again at Mayo so I think somebody surely did it right.  It was very positive both times with +++ on it.  I guess  I will dig those old reports out and see what they say.  I need to get them together anyway to take to my ob-gyn this week since she has not seen me since before bc.

Hey Girls, glad your back at your corner Nancy Lee. I think we understand completely what you mean and it is a very good analogy. Hope you are feeling better. Frankly I am glad I did the Hercept. even if I am her2 neg. because maybe it helped. I have a copy of my path report and it tells what test they used. Janie if you have a copy it should be on it. The Indohistochemistry is not as good an indicator of pinpointing sorta the Her2 gene as the Fish test. Then you have to wonder if it was done right.  Well I better get going. Hugs, Mary

Yeah,  I guess those of us who were positive have less to worry about than the ones who showed negative but possibly were positive because we got the treatment; however, it is not like the rest of the path report would be wrong ... like Mary and I being ER/PR negative and not candidates for hormone therapy .... so the worst we could have done would be take the Herceptin for nothing.  On the other hand, I can see why others who needed it and didn't get it would be very upset.

Good morning my Junies....my glasses fell into bed with me last night and I apparently rolled over on them...the right bow is a mess so I'm looking at the world kinda cock-eyed this morning...I'm trying to bend it back but I don't have one of those warm sand things that they use to do that!!!  Yesterday, I ran around and cleaned my basement entryway and hauled all the junk out to the pickup and took it to the dump...then I cleaned out my jeep so that I can transport kids to school again in the cold weather...it was piled with coats and clothes and all my stuff from running around this summer and fall...I kinda klutzed out and fell on the living room floor yesterday afternoon and now I'm all bruised and sore...gotta go shower before work...hope you all have a great Monday....Life is GoodSmileSmilesSmileNancyLeeLaughing

Well N.L. I am always cock-eyed. Wow it has been 60's 2 days now but heavy rain and falling temps. are on the way. Snow by the end of the wk. of course. I had to get into the Dr. tomorrow because he cut my thyroid med. down and now my neck is swelling and I feel the big thyroid wrapped around my throat. I called about the long wait for the endo. Dr. and they have a new one I can get into the 19th. Great just out of school and no experience. It is that or wait until the end of March. I will have a goiter the size of Texas pretty soon. I just hope it isn't cancer. Well I better go. N.L. I have 3 pairs of reading glasses and I can never find 1. Usually one is on my head.Have a good day girls. Mary

Hi all, Janie, I saw my reg. doc. yesterday and he cut my thyroid med down more. He said he probably cut it down too much too quick. I feel awful. I called the endocronologist office and they said I have to wait. I am calling today and talk to the nurse. My neck is getting pretty swollen and I feel so bad. My throat feels like something is stabbing it and it is, my thyroid. My blood pressure was up to 120/90. I have never been over 120/60 and usually it is 98/58. I hope I live to see the Endo. guy here. I don't think my new reg. Dr. knows a lot about thyroid. Oh well. Glad your o.k. after your fall. We do the darndest things don't we? I better get my coffee in me, I have the 2 boys to take to school this morning.( Well, I take them every morning.) Gotta go. Hugs, Mary

Hey girls, I called the Endo. and asked to talk to the nurse instead of the rec. They finally called back and I told her what was up and I go in today. I am thinking this thing has to come out. It is so uncomfortable. I feel like I am choking again and like it is going to block my airway. It just keeps ya nerveous. I went to the E.R. to get an EKG last night because my upper chest hurt so bad from the pressure around my neck. Of course my 5 last teeth are throbbing. I go in the 28th. for that. If they can't tell me for sure if this thyroid is cancer with out getting it out, well it is out! I have heard this is a nasty surgery and takes a few months to get back to normal so I am not looking forward to it. I thought it was outpatient but it isn't. Oh well, I will know more today. I just want to feel right again. Thanks for listening. Hugs, Mary

Hey girls, I like the Endo. guy and he isn't a fresh Doc. he has been doing Endo. for 10 years.  He said to wait and try the meds. and see if it goes down again, he said not to get the surgery unless I really can't stand the pain. He said the chance of cancer is very doubtful. Well I am pooped so I will be back later. Hugs, Mary
