Bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction 10/04.

Chemo every 3 weeks beginning 01/05.

36 radiation treatments to right side

1 year of herceptin every 3 weeks. Last treatment 07/06.

    No change on MUGA scans.

    NED!

So glad that I elected to get rid of all of the breast tissue.  Not leaving any doubt for a return battle.  Cancer is an agressive killer. You have to fight it as agressively as possible.  Best advice - do not do just enough to get by - do it all.  Be pro-active!

My mom was very aggressive with her stage 1 breast cancer, mastectomy, chemo A/C...(even though they said she would not need it, only 5% chance of recurrance)...but sadly 3 years down the line she has mets to liver and bones.  I guess even being agressive doesn't guarantee cancer free.  Herceptin was not available to her at the time as you had to have mets to get it back then.  Maybe that was the deciding factor, but the Onc. thinks not.  She said one can never guarantee that the first time is a cure, even if the cancer is small.  I think it sucks personally.

Dx 8/06.  NED.  Had 3 more herceptins to go but stopped:  had a small heart attack on the OR table last week during gen'l anesthesia for a hysterectomy.  Had felt like the picture of health prior to going in for surgery.  Now dx'd w/cardiomyopathy.  I'm 41, stage 1, no nodes, ER/PR/HER2+.  Moral of story:  be careful w/gen'l anesthesia after using all these potent drugs.  You can feel totally fine and not be.  (Not to scare anyone...just don't want to see anyone have to deal w/it.)

Well, it's time to post in behalf of my mother. it' s a long story. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and positive lymphnodes back in 1991. After radical mastectomy and chemo in 1992 she was officialy diagnosed with recurrence in 2005 in axillary and suvraclavicular lymphnodes. Her tumor tumor markers were dangersouly high. CEA was 405 and CA125 over 100. Followed taxol ad carbo plus radiation. The result was new mets, too numerous to count in liver, left lung, bones, plus pleural effusion. Second her onc, her prognosis was 3 months. But no one told us about Herceptin. I found infos about Herceptin right in this page. We asked about an IHC test based on her biopsy back in 1991! The results were that she is HER2+. Started Herceptin and since July 2006 my mother is NED! Maybe if Herceptin was available in 1992 she would avoid the recurrence.

WOW.....what an encouraging thread.  I love it and love that we are NED.  Awesome, awesome, awesome.

I was dx June 24, 05 - stage 2B - 2 sent. nodes removed and 1st one had ONE (I repeat ONE) microscopic cell of invasion.  Second node clean.  No vascular invasion.  Did 4 dose dense A/C - 4 taxol dose dense also started herceptin with first taxol dose and received that every 3 weeks for one year.  Finished chemo Nov. 30, 2005 and finished herceptin Oct. 11, 2006.  Also had 28 rad. treatments.

Has had a PET/CT when dx - normal (other than right breast) - radiation onc. ordered a PET/CT when rads were finished and that too was normal.  Abdominal CT this past Sept. (ordered by GI doc for digestive issues) - normal - and a bone scan done Dec. 27 for left thigh ache - also normal.

So ladies, add me to the NED list.  2 years and 5 months as survivor and counting.

    Praise God,

    Mary Jo

I was diagnosed in May of '06, lumpectomy July '06, Er/pr- and Her2+++ had 4 A/C followed by three taxotere, 32 rads, and finished my one year of herceptin on Dec,7th '07.  So, I'm 17 monthes out from my surgery, feeling okay, just nervous. It's like someone took away my security blanket! Seeing my oncology nurses every week gave me a feeling of safety, now I won't see the onc till February. Hopefully, at that time he will order an echo for my heart and let me schedule a date to have my port removed.

    Hugs

hi, i'm stageIIIB, 9 + nodes out of 27.  had mastectomy march 07, 4 ac, 4 taxotere and 6 weeks radiation.  1st herceptin last jan. and last one this coming monday so it's almost 2 years since diagnosis.  onc is planning a pet scan about a month later.

my markers have always been totally normal.  then in nov. my cea went from 2.8 to 20.8.  we repeated it and it lowered to 18.4.  so of course now in ready to go into panic mode cause onc said since ca27-29 was still normal this could be a sign of a totally different cancer but could also be an inflammation since it's not terribly high.   but hey, i'm a classic worrier so i will be frantic till after this scan.

    Diagnosed 12/06 right breast IDC, stage 1c, ER/PR -, HER2+.

Mastectomy on 11/17/06. Sentinel node biopsy negative

4 AC (finished 2/07) followed by 1 year herceptin (will finished at end of Feb 08).

Following funky mammogram report of left breast, had mastectomy of left breast 6/07. Pathology showed benign changes of aging breast tissue - hooray. (Since I was extremely big-breasted, I love being flat).

9 months out from end of chemo - NED.

Diagnosed in November, 2007 (stage I).  Will be starting 12 weeks of Taxol and 12 months of Herceptin; 6 weeks of radiation to follow chemo.  My 1st oncologist was not in favor of me having chemo/Herceptin.   I think I need to go the aggressive route.

    Hi JCS,

Our cases are quite similar, and you definitely did the right thing in going the aggressive route.  I chose it also, just so I'd never look back with regrets.  I did 4 DD Adriamycin/Cytoxan, and just finished Taxol yesterday (had no problems w/Taxol, just the Benadryl knocked me out + the steroids made me wired! Surprised) and I begin solo Herceptin until Nov. 2008.  I'm so glad to be done with chemo, even though my problems were very minimal (no nausea, just a bit of fatigue toward the end).  I have read more and more that it is actually "favorable" (not sure if that's the correct wording) to be HER2positive rather than negative just because of the great results from Herceptin! YAY!!

Take care and best regards to all!

I am a one year survivor today (last chemo 2/13/07).  One more herceptin dose next week.  I am still disease free as far as my doctor and I know.  She plans on doing a CT/PET scan sometime this summer.

    Mary Jo and all:

Had my first round of Taxol/Hercepting yesterday.  Was up at the gym at 6:00 a.m. this morning and feeling great all day.  I know that the chemo has a cumulative effect and I will not feel this great all the time.  But today, all is good.

Glad to be part of this HER2+ network.  I'm learning a lot.

Dx Feb 05 finished Herceptin 10/06

Two tiny spots liver 10/07 and redone 12/07 - no change

Oncologist says still NED and I'm staying with that (though

do worry a bit!!!!)  Will do another in May/June as a doublecheck.

    Anyone had anything like that.
