    Tina,

I use noxema facial cleanser and Oil of Olay facial cleansing wipes. They are both non drying and then I use Oil of Olay face lotion. And when my face really feels dry I use Oil of Olay night cream.

Pup, is this it?  $18.95 doesn't sound too bad at all.

Marin I want to hear more about laser removal in the brazilian area.  Did it hurt? how much did it cost?

My esthetician uses a small crock pot to keep her wax in (on 'lo' temperature).

She suggested I get one and then buy the wax from her....I'd need to plug it in to 'warm' the wax a few hours before I wanted to use it, and then would have perfect temperature, professional quality wax to use.  I've not tried it yet, but it sounds logical, as long as the 'lo' setting on the crock pot I buy is low enough (or not too low!)

Twinkly, I think they sell little cp's specially for wax.  Maybe that was candle-making.  I don't know if the temp is the same for both.

I always thought the wax at my nail place looked like it was in a crock pot-- I think that's a brilliant idea.

I only wax my eyebrows, and I don't even have a lot of hair, but I think tweezing hurts like hell.  I've been waxing my eyebrows since I was 13, so to me the hot wax feels good...

Now the whole brazilian thing is something I would like to explore, but I'm scared sh*tless.

Beth....If you've waxed before, not to mention gotten tattoos, the laser Brazilian is actually milder than those processes, at least it was for me. The final result is a very smooth area, although I do still need to run a straight-edge over it for "special occasions." The hair, if it still grows in at all, is very soft and light. But, for the most part, it's all gone and feels absolutely fabulous!!! I'll just add that it has a number of advantages and it gets no complaints whatsoever, if ya know what i mean? Wink

The process takes at laest 6 or so visits that need to be spaced about 10 weeks apart so that each treatment zaps hair that is growing during that particular cycle. For obvious reasons, we who have had cancer baldness understand this logic! For each treatment, you need to have shaved the area very closely. They will give you a tiny cloth bikini thing to wear if you want, but I just thought that was silly. Either way, the first step is to put ice packs on the area to be lasered in order to reduce the pain. You can take tylenol beforehand too, if you're very pain-sensitive. Then they just run the laser across the surface and it literally zaps the hair right out of its follicles. The smell of burning is something you should be prepared for, but once you get used to it, its okay. Some areas are more sensitive than others (like the crease between your leg & crotch), so you just hold your breath and distract yourself. Each treatment takes about a half-hour and then you're done. You can apply benadryl cream or they might give you something, but I didn't need anything and just went on with my life until the next treatment. As for expense, I actually can't remember! It was a package deal for six treatments and I think it was slightly over $1,000.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

1.Bare Essentials powders practically erased my rosacea. The zinc and titanium calm inflammation naturally according to my dermatologist.

    2. Palmers Cocoa Butter stick is portable , great for scars and the best lip balm you can find.

    3. Natural colored lip gloss looks much fresher over 40 than lipstick.

    4. Castile soap seems to reduce skin dryness. I like the scents of that liquid Dr. Bronner's. It goes a long way and I use it for my fine washables as well.

I would like to recommend a mascara I just found.

Since my lashes are just growing in (for the third time) I found one that makes them look a mile long.

    Revlon 3D Extreme.

It has a great non clumping brush.

I also discovered that Revlon makes its own version of photofinish called Age Defying Instant Firming Face Primer

It is really nice under foundation.

    marin -

You mentioned you had your eye brows tattood. Not only am I considering the permanent eye liner, but I'm thinking about the eyebrows too. You said you would have gone a little darker...can you explain why and any tips you can suggest? Thanks for the info. After chemo, everything grew back except my brows are now somewhat sparse.

I do my eyebrows and brazilian with poetic waxing..Tina..the trick is the swipe the wax on in a thick layer - about as thick as a banana peel - I wasn't doing that and it killed but then I went to Bliss Spa in NYC right before my wedding and the lady told me that was the trick.  Poetic Wax is the only wax that doesn't bruise me...the lady at the spa was so impressed I do my own brazilian waxing..she gave me a huge bag of free wax to tuck into my purse! ;)

Oh, thanks, Emelee.  I will try that.  I plan on buying that roller wax stuff but I am a Yankee Wink so hate to just toss the Poetic.

Girls, I know I will be struck down for this, but I looked in the mirror this morning after washing my hair and putting on my makeup and thought I looked gorrrrrrrgeous!  At last!  The hair is a love/hate thing, being so curly.  But I am getting used to it and liking it when freshly "done."  I make keep it curly!

Gee, I may stop at the beauty supply store today.  Maybe they carry that rolling waxer stuff???  Anyway, I'm planning a trip into the big city.  Load up on my secret vice, shelter magazines, visit the makeup counters, etc.  Oh, happy day.  (After I finish my chores, of course.  NOT)

Don't you just LOVE LOVE LOVE those days when you know you look good?

Matt's truck wouldn't start this morning, and my mom has our other car cause hers is in the shop-- so I have to pick him up from work later.

Not that I'm expecting to go into the office and see his coworkers, but I definitely need to look hot later when I go get him.

He's always tells me stories about his coworkers and the girls from accounting are his lunch buddies (good thing I'm seriously overconfident and would never waste my air on being jealous) but that still means I have to look hot when I go get him later...

what to wear, what to wear...

Beth, I just can't bring myself to hot wax the bikini area so a friend turned me on to Veet hair removal.  We spent a week in Jamaica the first of Dec and I used the Veet before we went.  Didn't have to shave ANYTHING the whole week I was there.  Just be careful though, it removes hair wherever it touches and "down there" got a little patchy!!  Smells like the stuff when you get a permenant at the hair salon but you only have to leave it on for 3 minutes.

Laura, (hi sweetie) my eyebrows actually grew back in a perfect arch.  I use to have to pluck but now I don't, so that is one thing chemo did for me.  My eyelashes decided to fall again but are now back and Mabelline, the cheapest, works best for me.   How was your holidays?

Tina, I've got "new" hair also.  Use to be straight and long and now  while not curly, very wavy.  I think I'll keep it short!

you guys are totally motivating me to do it, but I am sooo scared.  I never had a lot of hair ever in life.  Like-- down there I literally always resembled a 13 year old girl.  I know-- it's silly.  So I always shave it all, b/c it just looks better. and thats how the boy likes it, so fine.  So my question is, if you don't have a lot of hair in that brazillian hard to reach area, if I walk into a salon will they even do it?  Am I supposed to let it grow? Cause that would take like 2 months for me.

I shave my legs once every 3 weeks-- I really don't have a lot of hair, but I REALLY want that hair down--way down there to not exist.

If someone could motivate me in the next two weeks I'd be really excited, b/c we're going to FL on the 25th, and we have a jacuzzi in the middle of the hotel room.

AND NO, it's not one of those cheesy rooms with a jacuzzi, its actually in a suite at a reputable hotel.  I'd feel better if I could get rid of the hair myself, but I am so scared.

so tell me again which product should I get, and what is the technique?

Beth...A friend of mine recently decided to get a Brazilian wax for the first time as part of her birthday gift to herself, but when she got to the spa, she was told that it needed a fairly significant amount of growth to be done. I'm glad I did laser because that would NOT work for me. Can't imagine having hair in the way at all down there anymore....well, I wouldn't be able to go show my.....um, whatever....the whole time!  Surprised

I totally get where you're coming from on the looking hot to pick up your man. It makes both of you feel good!

Can I come to FL with y'all? I'll just stay in the jacuzzi.....What are you doing about your winter ultra-whiteness, if anything?

    Beth,

The lady at the salon I go to always says it needs to be at least a 1/4 inch for the wax to have something to adhere to. I go so infrequently so I need to trim ahead of time! I'd like to do what Marin did and permantely delete it for good---except my chin hairs are growing in so exhuberantly that I really should do that first....I mean more people see my chin!

Ah, did anyone mention a good sunscreen? I don't leave the  house without Clinique City Block Sheer 25 on my face and neck. It makes a great makeup base and they say sunscreen is the single best thing to stay young looking!

Isn't it the amount of 'landing strip' left? Wink

Seriously, Brazilian takes off everything front to back while the bikini basically takes off anything that might show in a bikini bottom plus some extra.

marsha - HI THERE! I'm so envious your eyebrows came in so well! I did some research today, and I'm having mine tattood. I think it will look okay, since I do have some, but they're just a little sparse. Holidays were nice. I didn't know you went to JA! Lucky you...I love JA...that's where I met my dh! It was great...he was with 2 friends and I was with 2 friends...the 6 of us had a great week there! Glad you're doing well

    Kelly -

The Brazilian includes removal of the hair around all the NOOKS AND CRANNIES, while the Bikini includes removal of just the hair that would stick out of the bikini area.

brazilian is from your ass crack all the way to the front... in basic terms. Bikini wax is the front, and the sides, and can leacve a landing strip if preferred.

Marin- I am totally doing something about my whiteness.  For my birthday my bro and SIL gave me a $300 gift certificate to maximus spa (I know, BEYOND generous) so first, five days before we leave I am having my first hot stone massage.  Then the next day I'm going in for a full body exfoliation, and a hand applied tan.  Then they will give me stuff to touch up for the two days before the trip.

So I'm set.  I ordered some really cute skirts and tops for the trip.

Lord knows I need to get my mojo back, so I'm hoping this is just what we need.  We're going there for his little sisters med school ceremony- so his mom will be on the plane with us, and in the same hotel, but we booked her room on the other end of the hotel...tee hee.

Sounds like you've got it all planned out quite well, Beth. I envy you that incredible spa experience too! For the hotel, I assume you're bringing some sexy, hot lingerie, maybe some massage oil and bubble bath stuff, not to mention plenty of lube and a toy or two? Oh, wait a minute, this isn't the MOJO thread!! Sorry!

Back to the original topic.....can anyone recommend a good, fairly inexpensive tinted moisturizer? I'd prefer the tint to be of a pinkish color rather than tan/bronze. Also, can I get a recap of what you recommend as a base or primer to help foundation to stay fresh and last longer?

Finally, Laura, I forgot to reply to your eyebrow tattoo question. I was so scared that the tattoos would be too dark and too thick that I told her to stay very, very light and thin. They looked fine immediately after the procedure because the area was a bit red and swollen, but when it all healed, they were barely visible, especially on the outside edges. I probably shouldn't have made such a fuss about it and they would have been fine.

Marin..I use Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer - it's good but I can't remember the price :(  Probably not inexpensive...it's not tan/bronze either...I get the light or medium depending on the season..

Beth..I really really really like poetic wax from Bliss is Sephora...heat it in a pot with 1-2 inches on water (the wax is in a little tub and I just plop the tub in)  Take advil before!  It takes about 1/2 hour to heat on low...then take it off when it looks like honey...let it cool 1-2 minutes..this kit has a cleanser you swipe on first..and then an oil..just a little so the wax doesn't hurt.  Put wax on thick in sections and pull up in opposite direction..it doesn't use paper strips - you can just pull up the wax...I never bruise from this and I have sensitive skin and bruise from other waxes.  It won't be bad if you have no real growth - like you said - it's worse when the hair is longer trust me....I wish I could show you with a fake demonstration...I'll post the link so you can see the kit...

Tina..DO NOT TOSS the Poetic - I would die..hehe..mail it to Beth :0

Oh yeah Beth..maybe for the 1st time..just wax as much as you can...don't try the full brazilian..although the back area does not hurt bad like the front - that's actually the easiest part aside from the sides...it's ok to grunt when you pull the wax off..hehe

And use a mirror..it helps..and a towel on the floor..nothing is worse than your boyfriend yelling..what the hell is this blue stuff on the floor and why are my feet stuck to it!

I have 3 positions when I wax...laying on my back...then squatting..then standing..I know..too much info..but it might help those that want to try!

I'm still wondering how I'm going to get waxed before I give birth in the summer...there's no way I can do it myself with a huge belly and I doubt any waxer will do it for me - It would probably induce labor..hehe

My girlfriends and I refer to the Brazilian as the FULL MONTI! LOL There's some effective yoga positions that make it easier, especially if you're doing it yourself! LOL

Thanks girls, for all the info re: permanent liner and brows...I appreciate it! I figure I'll start at the top, and work my way down!

Tinted moisturizer?  I just mix my foundation with moisturizer in my palm.  Moosh it around a bit and you're good to go without buying another product.  I almost HAVE to do this as I have never found a tinted moisturizer that was pink enough for me; most are beige-y.

Marin and Beth and the rest of you Brazilian girls, I guess I just don't understand.  I mean, bikini wax - okay.  No one wants little curly hairies sticking out from their bathing suit.  But the whole enchilada?  Oh, I must be too old-fashioned.  Nature girl or something.  This may be a philosophical difference.

Also, didn't anyone have a hard time "wiping" when they were bare from chemo?  Tissue drag, and all that.  Sorry to be so graphic, but there it is. Okay, I am forever silent on this one. Laughing

I had something I wanted to ask but I've gone and forgot it......
