I must tell you I got a reprimand from the septic guy. My boys were still flushing wipes. The guy said he should have charged me $90 more for the time it took him to get those out. I know you are not suppose to flush them but my boys insist that toliet paper does not do the job. Well the wipes are history.
Christmas lights are easy to store if you wrap them around an old oatmeal container. I saved all mine from a couple of years ago and now as I take the lights done I wrap them at the same time. I'm no Martha Strewart but this tip worked great for me.

I love the idea of futuristic archeologists digging up all those vehicles in Alaska and hypothesizing about their use...were ones found in the dump different from the ones found underground? If so, how? If not, why were some in junk yards and some buried in holes? Were some more worthy of burial? Were roads in Alaska just filled with holes drivers could not see, and they drove into them? Or did the land in Alaska just arbitrarily open and swallow vehicles?
Always Hope and Marin, let's all do this together. I like Dr. Oz and will have to get his book. My issue is getting motivated to exercise, but with chemo and steroids staring down at me in the next week or so, I'm thinking that's enough movtivation for me. I've already gained 20 pounds over the last few years...and need to shed those, not gain more...expecially knowing that fat creates estrogen, which feeds my cancer.
RavDeb, how sweet that your pup tried to be a mommy, but smothered her charges by accident....but then learned from that and now just licks them....I accidently smothered a pet mouse once when I was little...everyone kept saying don't let it get away...so I held on tightly...poor thing...I know how your pup feels.

Okay, here's my question about drinking water. I really have trouble drinking just plain water so I get those crystal lite togo lemonades and add to the water. Does that work the same or does it strictly have to be just plain water. The crystal lite packets only have 5 calories so I'm not worried calorie-wise. I just don't understand the 'drink more water' thing and what constitutes 'water' in this way. Does it just need to be a non carbonated drink? Can iced tea count as drinking more water? Inquiring minds ...haven't a clue.

I would love to lose some weight this year. I think I'm making it my resolution. My dad gave all of us kids (there were 5 of us) a flashdrive with a power point show of our Thanksgiving reunion and I am the ONLY overweight one in the bunch. I love the gift, but that means everyone will remember me as the fat one! Next reunion, I am going to blend in a little better.
Jasmine, people tell me that out of the total amount of "water" you are supposed to drink, at least half of it needs to be just plain water, the rest can be "low" or "no" calorie drinks. I'm not an expert, though, so don't quote me!

Always Hope--You've sent me on a mission for a product I did not know existed, but I'd go to the ends of the earth for---a good dish of biscuits and gravy (and I'm not talking Crackerbarrel)----not the healthiest food on the planet but one I'd rather have than a big piece of chocolate cake----LOL
Now where do I find this Pioneer Biscuit Gravy mix? Is this exclusive to
the south and western US. Anyone know where this is available in the Northeast ?

Saluki -- I had never heard of it either but I found it at Walmart. It was with the other McCormick mixes for spaghetti, meatloaf, etc. It comes in an envelope pouch.

Mmmm...biscuits and gravy. A serious guilty pleasure which I passed up on for lunch. Had the fish tacos instead.
I'm sorry, I can't contribute to the septic tank discussion. I have no experience in this area.
As for drinking water, I'm starting to feel a little guilty about the 'water' I drink. Although I do drink plain water in substantial quantities, I also consume artificially sweetened / flavored water. I think the artificial sweeteners are to be avoided. That's one of my New Year's resolutions.

Thank you---I have a Walmart nearby--so, maybe they will carry it. Pioneer sells it in lots of 24 packets----A little too much temptation for me to have in the house. LOL
I also have some frozen hashbrowns and I was planning on finding a way to use them.
So, I hope I can try your soup recipe.

Just one more thing on the potato soup...the gravy mix is used to 'thicken' it up. I didn't use the whole package. I added a little at a time and stirred it in well until I got it to the thickness that I wanted.

Ours only carried biscuit gravy by McCormicks---I bought it anyway and will try it tomorrow. Thanks.

1 point per serving, it's so simple to put together and really good!
1 bag of Ore Ida Hash Browns (shredded, or cubed)
1/2 chopped onion
2 quarts FF chicken broth (FF=fat free)
1 package Fat Free Pioneer cream gravy mix (whisked in 1/2 cup of water to remove lumps)
Place first 3 ingredients into large pot and simmer for 30 minutes. Add gravy mix and stir. Simmer 15 minutes. Or, you can put all the ingredients in a crock pot on high for 3-4 hours*********************

Anyway, i thought the soup recipe sounded good so i googled it and came up with nearly the same recipe that you posted Jasmine. I think the added onion sounds good.

Celia, I got my recipe from Jankay over the telephone. The recipe is sort of a 'basic' potato soup recipe that you can spice up the way you want. On one batch I made, I fried/crisped a few strips of bacon to crumble into the soup and added some diced/chopped green onion.

Jasmine......mmmmm sounds good. my hubby would love it with bacon which is his favorite food. I am a vegetarian, so veggie broth for me and sliced carrots and celery. There were tons of recipes I found--many with bacon, some with cream of celery soup or cream of chicken soup added, and several with Velveeta cheese (?). oh yeah, that green onion sounds good--maybe still raw, not cooked. Since i have lost 75 lbs last year i have to have mostly fantasies about food now.

Twink..I also drink flavored water as I seem to be able to drink that better than regular water. After 2 years, I'm finally getting my taste buds around non-flavored water but it's a slow process. My doc said it was okay and so I decided not to question it further!
I do NOT drink enough..in the summer I do. Now all I want to do is EAT.
I am not happy with myself these days. :-(
I hopped on my exercycle and hardly did anything on it and got off and felt sick. Does this mean exercise makes me sick?
I'm off to take my Vit. D walk. That is..walking in the sun..:-)
I wonder if there are any buried cars around here..hmmmm....

Heck I didn't exercise before I got cancer, tell the doctor what I do. Watching arobics on TV is enough for everybody!!!Loving and laughing are more important. As Forest Gump would say, that's all I have to say about that!! lol

I would also top the potato soup with some grated cheddar. My family loves cheese, so that' always a way to get them to eat something.
I guess we all have a comfort zone. Up til now, I've been ok with being overweight, but lately I'm not. When I'm ready, I know I can take it off, but it takes a lot of effort and I need to be ready. I lost 70 pounds on weight watchers about 10 years ago in 11 months and kept it off until I got pregnant with my last child who is now 7. Now I need to do it again!

What kind of bread, rolls, or side dishes do you all serve with your soups?
Im very partial to hot fresh corn bread, baking powder buiskets or yeast bread rolls....I dont eat salt but I do also serve crackers when there are others here.
I work in a fish hatchery for a few weeks of November each year and we always have a couple of days that we do a hot lunch....this year we decided to have a chilli feed....there are about 30 of us out there in this group and they took a vote on who would make the chilli....well, my name got thrown in the pot!!!!
One of the workers there asked about providing the meat for my chilli pot, as everyone chips in for the supplies for these meals. His dad is a hunter and had gotten a moose this past season, so being the brave, courageous girl I am, I said "sure" why not....there were 5 different types of chilli that day.....my basic chilli w/moose meat, wheat berry chilli, sweet potatoe chilli, white chicken chilli, and regular chilli.....I was busy helping set things up so was at the end of the food line....got to my chilli pot and there wasnt even a bean left!!! Next went the white chicken chilli, then the sweet potatoe chilli, and the others all had a dribble still left in their pots but not even enough for a bowl.
Now they have decided we will do this again next year if the same people will do the chilli's....any idea on how Im going to get moose meat for my chilli as I have never seen it sold in stores!!!!!!

Moose chile, sounds interesting.
I heard a funny story while visiting my parents. They had a pot luck before advent services at my dad's church and one of the members had some deer meat and made chile with it. His wife wanted to make sure everyone knew what was in the pot, so she made a sign that said, "Venison Chile". A lady was putting some in her bowl and said, "I'm so glad it's venison, I hate deer meat." She had at least 2 bowls!

So, last I heard there were rumblings of that age old New Year's resolution to excercise more and lose the excess weight...and I come back, and we're talking about all this yummy comfort food...biscuits and gravy, potato soup with all kinds of variations, and those different kinds of chili's sounded soooo good. Moose meat...why not? I use buffalo. Sheri, I love the venison story...I'm glad it isn't deer meat. LOL. I love this thread...so human!
Speaking of comfort food-my son, 24, called the other night..."Mom..." with that I love you will you do something for me tone..."If you feel up to it...could you make your yummy chicken and dumplings? You make the best chicken and dumplings, and I want Kayla (his new girlfriend...been dating since summer. She's sweet, and he's just taken by her) to experience that yummy goodness." Man, was he slathering it on...but of course, what could I say..."Of course I will. How about next week?"
Of course, everything in moderation is the key...so why not have a bowl of chili with a salad? Why not indulge on a Sunday morning in bisquits and gravey...it's only once a week. Why not have a steaming bowl of chicken and dumplings on a cold rainy night, like with biscuits and gravy, just make sure the rest of the day is filled with lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats...and OH, let us not forget... a HUGE helping of excercise. :-)
Water...can you believe how many variations of water are being sold (SMART water is supposed to help your brain somehow) and the cost, not to mention the number of added flavorings?
I flavor my water in the morning with Ester C, not because I don't like water, but because I hate pills. They have different flavored packs for different types of supplements. Joint is Tangerine;Antioxidant is Berry;Sports (I need the potassium and magnesium) is Lemon-lime etc...
I know that I'll have to ask which supplements I'm allowed to take as some aren't allowed during chemo,so this may no longer be an option for me. I drink a good amount of plain water-room temp-but heard taste buds make water taste icky. I've also heard that clear liquids like herbal tea, chicken broth, and other broths count as water...I could be wrong, so don't quote me. I also heard anything that causes you to lose water-alcohol and coffee and tea is to be limited. AHHHH!!!!!! So many rules.

RavDeb, wish the sun would come out so I could take a VDW...but we've been in such need of rain out here that I really shouldn't complain. At least you're up and moving...and that's a big thing in the battle of the bulge, not to mention building up our immune system and releasing endorphines. I keep telling myself...this excess fat can kill you, Kimberly...and I'm so frustrated that I haven't even gone to the gym to walk on the treadmill yet-I assume after 24 days post bilat surgery, I can at least do that.
Celia...75 pounds!!!! Good for you!!!! You'll have to be our official cheerleader as we all work to get ourselves into shape...As Sheri said, "Let's make this a great 2008"...and I'll add..."by resolving to lose that excess weight!" Kept your rhyme going Sheri :-)

We try to get a moose every year, but the season has been shortened to the point that it is harder and harder. I grew up eating moose, bear, sheep and caribou. I can remember having a burger and someone else's house when I was about 8 and thinking it was spoiled...nope, it was BEEF! I had eaten so little beef that the fact that it had fat in it made me think it was rotten (the game meat is super lean) ANYWAY....you can substitute buffalo for the moose and get kind of the same flavor.
