    Septic tanks...

I don't remember who it was now, but there was a lady here a while back who had problems with her septic tank while going through chemo. The "honey wagon" people told her that the septic backed up because of the toxic drugs she was excreting and flushing! The chemo was supposedly still active enough to kill the beneficial bacteria in the septic tank.

I am not sure I "buy" the theory about chemo and septic tanks, but it sure is something I wouldn't have thought of!

I have a 90 lb boxer an older cat and a young kitten. The older two are pretty calm and generally peacefully co-existed b.k. (before kitten). The new kittie is such a spaz! We adopted the older cat when she was an adult, so I had not experienced the circus atmosphere that a kitten can create. The funniest thing for me, aside from the kitten draping herself over the arm of a chair and swatting at her tail--causing her to flip an fall off the chair!--is seeing the little kitten chasing the older cat who chases the boxer. It's a crazy animal train and cracks me up every time.

Oh, and to tie the two subjects together, there is a doggie septic system called a "doggie dooly" or something like that! I ordered one and couldn't figure out how I was going to train my dog to "go" in the right place. HAH!! You are supposed to bury the doggie dooly and SHOVEL the nasties into it periodically. We never did get it installed. Sometimes I truly feel my blondeness.....

Here is a picture of my big dog. She is supposedly a Belgian Malinois. I got her from the humane society 9 years ago as a puppy. She is not only the best dog I have ever had but the smartest too. She is my walking dog. We try to walk at least 3 miles 4 times a week. Her name is Kes.

Twink the dogs eyes I just melted into them, oh he's so cute.  Your lucky to have that dog.  My son had a friend nicknamed Cheese and he had a bull mastiff, I loved that dog.  I would go to Kenora to stay the weekend clean their house and Rup would follow me everywhere. He was the most laid back dog in the world.  I have two cats now and adore them and of course they are brats, but my brats.  Last night they decided to keep me up all night fighting, whining, weird, I don't know what got into them but they're sleeping now ( I should wake them up).  Anyone hooked on Meerkat Manor on the Animal Planet.  It's like a soap opera but I love it.  My neigbours are going to kick me out soon if I don't stop feeding the squirrels, but they're so cute and fat now I just can't stop. Yesterday Harry the gray squirrel came right up to my window, put his hands under his armpits and looked as pitiful as possible.  Well that was it for me more nuts, they have me trained now.  Pearl

    Brenda,  Your Kes is beautiful.

I have my "pound puppy" too and he trained all the other pups.  He's like the father lion and let's them get away with almost everything but once in a while he still puts them in their place.  They are all special in their own ways.  I love animals and love watching "Animal Planet' (except when something gets caught for dinner)  I know the whole food chain and all but it still bothers me.

    Sahalie,

We have 7 dogs---yep 7.  Four of which are rescues, and were supposed to have been put up for adoption, but my dh has a giant "s" on his forehead. And they see it.  My son-in-law says this place is a dog's black hole of sorts.  They come here......and stay!!

About the "skunk".  This is a receipe that I got from my vet that works well. It is:

    1 Quart of 3% Peroxide

    1/4 cup baking soda

2 tsp. liquid soap (Joy, etc.)

Mix together and pour over your dog and work through.  Rinse ---Rinse---Rinse.  I promise---unless your furkid got it in the face, this will remove the smell.  Just remember to RINSE.  It is harsh on their skin.   I usually follow up with a conditioner on them----makes them fluffy!!  If they are so silly as to get sprayed---then they will smell like fruit---no matter what!!

Brenda, your dog is adorable....not showing him to my hubby---he'll think he has to have another.

    Happy New Year everyone!

Soup sounds perfect today! Even though I'm down South here and we haven't seen snow in forever, it's actually what we consider cold today (40s!). I just made some Black Bean Chili in the crock pot, so I'm planning to have that.

"Fluffy"? Is that your nickname, Ravdeb? It reminds me of my sister and her good friend in college....they both had the same first and last names (like both were Mary Smith, ya know?) and, ostensibly, to distinguish themselves from one another, they began calling each other "Fluffy"! What was the point in that, you ask? So did everyone else! They thought it was hilarious! That was back in 1967 and they still call each other "Fluffy" today! Geez......

Thanks for starting this thread, AlwaysHope....it's quite fun!

    Thanks Jennifer.

I copied that recipe down.  Guess where my pup was hit last time.

Right in the face.  We went through lot's of tomato juice, soap & water.  Your recipe looks great.

Hahaha... my dogs don't slobber and they're as graceful as ballerinas.

Brenda, I love shepherds...or shepherd-like dogs.  I grew up with several.  She's beautiful!

Black bean chili...yummmm.  Tonight it's fish for us... DH is in charge.

My SIL is visiting...she bought me a massage for Xmas.  I'm off to the masseuse in an hour or so.  I wish it was with a masseur named Raoul. Tongue out

All the food talk is making me hungry!  It's raining here this morning, so it might be chili weather in a day or so...yesterday it was 62!

Brenda, beautiful dog!  I, too, love massage.  I have a Japanese massage therapist/acupuncurist that I go to every week.  Love that deep tissue massage, and the acupuncture has really helped with my hip.  Tsuji is such a hoot...he does the whole Chinese pulse thing, and he can always tell when I've had chocolate that week; he swears I have a "chocolate pulse."

I'd better go play with my cat...he's giving me "the look".

I have a teacup poodle named Biscuit that staed by my side while I did treatments.  He even growled at my daughter when she tried to give me a kiss before going to work one day.  The thing about septic tanks is the powder tide can build up like a rock.  I had that problem with powder cascade.  I use the gel now.

Dogs are wonderful companions but I dont have one...I work too much and would feel guilty about leaving it at home alone....instead I have birds, two cocktiels, one that jabbers his silly head off all day, should have never taught him to talk!!!! and the other is a shy little thing that barely makes a peep.

I hate cleaning up after Christmas.  Undecorating the tree, putting all the little seasonal doodads away, vacuuming up pine needles.  I always regret not having done a better job of neatly putting the lights away.  Of course, I regret this sloppiness when I'm in the process of preparing to decorate next year's tree.  By then I've usually forgotten whether I was the lazy one or somebody else was.  In any case, I usually blame my DH.

So now anyone that walks through the door has to bring a wine for us to test Wink.

Twink, Im the same as you...I hate the cleanup part...Im going to leave the tree for a bit after New Years then tear it all apart but as with you I will blame the mess on someone else....just gotta think of someone to blame it on since I live alone....any suggestions????

    Lol..funny thread

Can I have the potato soup recipe Jas?

I'm hungry, sick, and pregnant which all add up to potato soup ;)

A detective I worked with had a bull mastiff and said they are famous for 3 things..burping, farting, and drooling..like our husbands..lolol hahaha

Speaking of cats eating day old formula..I think I'm going to have a hard time nursing because one of my cats will not understand that it's not meant for her! She's attached to me and I have to carry her like a baby everywhere..she even sleeps with her nose in my chest cuddled between her paws.

This doesn't have to do with septic tanks, but when we had our shed built, they send 3 deaf and mute men to put it up..but they got in a huge fight and were throwing things at each other...needless to say, my dad had to go out and build the rest of it!

Bah....liar he was.  They don't burp, only she farts and they only drool after a good workout.  Kinda like me actually.

    Thanks!

It's July 22 - I actually just got over 3 weeks of pure nausea and barely ate..now I'm sick with a cold/upper resp infection that is dragging so long it feels like pneumonia...

But now I'm hungry again which is a relief! I love baked potatoes :)

I eat fresh bread with jam and butter - that always seems to sit well...I think I'll go have some now..hehe

i have 2 septic tanks, and use a disposal all the time.  I also put dry yeast in each one twice a year.  Only had one emptied in the 32 years we've been here.

To remember when to add the yeast I use Christmas and July 4th as the timing.

    Hi Dotti.

What type dry yeast do you use?

    Are they the packets?

How do you get the yeast into the tanks?

Do you flush it?  How much do you use each time?

What does the yeast do to break down stuff.

I thought yeast would coagulate debris for some reason.

    32 years.  That's really great.

Last April's freeze ruined the winter forage for our deer population.  This morning, we had a beautiful, huge doe in the back yard--so close I could see the scars on her legs, probably been kicked by other deer.   She was in the yard for about a half hour, nibbling on whatever she could find.  Those damn deer have totally destroyed all my outside plants in the last couple of years, so whatever she could find to eat was okay with me!   BUT--the skunk that sprayed out front of the house this morning on the way to the mailbox has got to go!!

I don't think I will ever get used to living in the boonies!

It was chili and cornbread for us today.............
