    Hi Ladies

I am from the November 2006 group and went through chemo around the same time as you all. Although I have never posted on your board, throughout the past year I have popped in here and there. I'm really not a stalker- In a way, we all did this journey together and supported each other with our postings to this board.  I just wanted to come over and say congrats on your upcoming year annivesary mark in January and wish you all a Merry Christmas.

    -Cheers- Carrie

Thanks for stopping in, Carrie. I remember seeing you on the July Radiation thread. It's been awfully slow there the past few months as we all moved on.

I hope you have a good Holiday, too.

I'm back from the inlaws. It was much better than expected. Mary you should get an award for having such a good memory (you're right - no drinking at the inlaws). I'm compensating with a bottle of wine tonight.

The dogs are exhausted from being at the kennel all weekend. They have doggie play groups 3 times/day - they have been sleeping all day. I had to wake them up for dinner.

The girls are watching a movie and will (hopefully) be in bed soon. Tomorrow should be fun.

My mom and brother were here today to make Christmas cookies - its a big family tradition for us. We made and decorated 100 of them and they are now all boxed up and will be given as gifts this week. Of course, we'll probably eat most of them ourselves.

Ran 2 miles this morning. I usually run on the treadmill, but the weather was nice, so I ran outside. My knee has been hurting ever since. Hopefully it will get better ASAP b/c I need the workout to maintain mental stability :)

Robbin Jaye you have a ton of hair! I'd love to hear an update too.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

As wonderful as Christmas has been - especially compared to last year and the cloud of uncertainty hanging over me(us) - I am exhausted. I just get pooped so easily.

I hope to be back in the next few days when I've more energy.

I do want to report my very favorite gift. The monetary value is about $25 so it's definitely the thought behind it.

My two daughters grew up with four girl cousins on my side of the  family. They all spent a lot of time together and the four girls, my nieces, were actually 'my girls' too. My brothers would remind me "you know, they belong to us" and I'd tell them "hah" and stick with them.

The six grown cousins got together about a month ago and had a photo taken for all the parents. It's gorgeous. I love it. I got the 10x13 copy, they all agreed Cindy should have it. My brother gave me crap for that, he got a 5x7 copy. I had to work hard to keep my composure,  didn't want to bawl like a baby because I'd have my girls new and up-to-date.

It was another reminder that I am so very, very thankful to be here to be with the girls, my brothers, friends and family.

Blessed holiday to all! And a good night's sleep.

    Hi Everyone,

Viddie I'm glad you are feeling so much better, and having fun with your kids even though they wear you out. Our DS left for a late Christmas evening with friends too last night.

Amera those sound like the "good" type of emergencies to have...plays to attend and presents needing wrapping. You must have had a fun Christmas with all your family.

Mel, what a thrilling confirmation for your Harrison! He was the hit of the party, then! I had much the same experience with Grendel. Everyone wanted to hold the "baby" and he was loving it. He wore his gray hoodie and everyone said it was like watching a stuffed wind-up animal walking around.

Sharon, oh yeah, can't go without the wine and the Bailey's. Our DS2 made some home-made Bailey's so we had a plentiful supply. We enjoyed some after the candlelight service Christmas eve.

Our day was hectic but fun, everyone brought tons of food, all were pleasant, and we had a riot playing take-away party food Bingo after the meal. Our family tradition is grasshoppers passed around about an hour after the meal, and I enjoyed making those and just being able to function this year.

I really didn't think about presents for myself at all, simply being glad to be here, but DH surprised me with an IPod Nano so I can now download all the online radio shows I never have time to sit and listen to on the computer. Very cool.

Hope all the rest of you who celebrated are now lolling around in a pleasant eggnog-induced haze. I have some actual work to do but may venture out to return a few things while we have a nice break in the weather. Your Bodacious TaTa Online BC Sister (BTTOBCS)- Skye

Oops just saw the second page of posts here:

Carrie, thanks for popping by to say hey! Glad you are doing well.

Mer, you take that well-deserved rest.

Jan I'm glad the outlaws were good. I bet the pooches were glad to come home. 100 cookies, I bet those are some coveted gifts! And your mentioning the 2-mile run reminds me I must get back in my exercise groove. Too many rum balls.

    Lynn, love you too!

Cindy, hearing about the "cousin" photo almost made me cry too. How thoughtful of them!

    Hello ladies

Skye- You look great and of course the Grendelmeister is too adorable.  Sounds like you had a great XMAS celebration.

Cindy - that picture of all of your "girls" will be something you will cherish forever.  What a thoughful gesture, they sound like great kids.

Jan - 100 cookies - all decorated?  That sounds like alot of fun, never mind a happy mess in the kitchen - Sarah and Em must love it. Glad the outlaws were okay.

Sharon, Amera, Lynn, Viddie, Rebecca, Nancy, Mary, Joni, Mel, Melia, Tina, Mizsissy, - I'm sure you all had a great holiday, much better than last year's when we were all pretty much in a state of shock, worry and many of us post-op at home with drains and bandages.

Even though I don't celebrate Christmas in the official sense, we had 2 dinners - at my brother's house on the 24th, and last night at my BFF's - it's a good chance for us to have these big gatherings as well because everyone is off work, and for us we don't have all the stress/excitement/angst/in-law stuff etc.  So on the 24th my SIL made a lovely turkey dinner with all the fixings - I brought  a mixed greens/mango/almond salad with balsamic vinagrette dressing, and last night we had another wonderful feast with stuffed cornish hens, roast beef, homemade pea soup etc., homemade baked desserts galore.  I brought cut up fruit.   I was afraid to get on the scale today, but happily I am only up one pound, so I can't complain.  I guess the treadmill walks are actually helping.

My girls are having a great time in Florida, the weather has been perfect - around 26 - 28 C (that's about 80F) everyday.  They've been to the beach and are having alot of fun.  Tonight they're going to Target (we don't have Target in Canada, unfortunately), and then to the Pine Lakes Mall in Pembroke Pines - Tina, I bet you have been there.  I'll check my VISA bill later tonight on line, I'm sure there will be quite a few purchases then - OY!!

Skye, that pic is adorable!! I too had a good Christmas, sooo much better than last year. Jeff's 90 yr old grandmother who is blind, is always asking for me ( she too is a BC survivor) while she was there, I took her hand and touch my hair, I thought she was going to cry, she said "oh your back"!! She is the sweetest thing! As my hair gets longer it is now curling. The back of my head especially. That is really odd. You would think that the longer it is the more it would weigh and therefore pull out any curl, right? Oh well?

Jeff bought me a lot this year, a digital camera, an i-pod dock, sapphire earrings and necklace and a cotton nightgown for those hot flashes. I got him a Garmin Nuvi GPS, he can never get lost again! Laura made me a CD of all the pics from "our western AZ and CA adventure". I loved that. We got GC's to Olive Garden and Ruby Tuesday's, I love those.. Breaks up the winter doldrums, by going out to dinner.

I have been really tired here lately, I don't know why I suddenly feel so pooped out. I could sleep and sleep and sleep some more. I'm not liking it. But, for the 1st time in 3 months, I don't have any tooth pain!! It doesn't even hurt from the root canal anymore, ahhhh feels so good! I am over my cold too, so why am I so pooped???

Can't wait to get the tree down, old guy is dropping needles fast. That is such a mess to clean up, needles and easter grass, always find some months later! I usually spend New Year's day doing that, because it is such a boring holiday. Frown Hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Hi everyone, we had a quiet holiday with just the two of us. My hubby's presents to me had basically 2 themes Piggy Banks and Angels. He got me 4 banks, one was a 50-year old wax piggy that he got on our trip to Spring last week; my bank collection now numbers 426, but only 72 of them are pigs. We have them all displayed somewhere. He got me 5 different Angel things, the one I like the best is a small sterling silver bell pendant with angels on all 4 sides and a trumpet as the clapper. I put it on a ribbon so I could wear it right away.

I got him the usual clothing gifts, some candy, and a flashlight that doesn't need batteries.

Those dinners sound great. I didn't go to that much trouble for just us, but I did make a couple of special side dishes for us.

Take all of you and rest up for New Year's Eve.

Thanks, Jan, my family all mentioned they thought my hair had grown a lot since Thanksgiving.

Nancy, mine is curlier in the back too. Why would that be?

Caya, your family knows how to dine! I say any excuse for a lovely family dinner is a good one.

Debby, I'd say you deserved some angels this year. Sounds like you have a very thoughtful DH.

Nancy, I've also been very tired lately, can barely keep my eyes open past nine. In your case I wonder if it's just your body recovering from the root canal work.

I forgot to tell you all my best story from yesterday. My brother had brought his 2-year old Lhasa, Izzie, to whom we plan to wed Grendel when he is of age so my brother and SIL can get puppies. My brother was calling the bingo numbers in the front of our basement rec room with Izzie on the floor in front of him and the whole clan gathered around. Then DS2 let Grendel loose and my little puppy walked right up to Izzie, got behind her, and, well, did what male dogs do. She is at least three times his size. Everyone almost died laughing. Luckily he was on a leash and I was able to drag him away, backwards. Merry Christmas! - Skye

Skye, what a great picture!  Grendel is adorable, and you are looking good, too!  The hair is nice.  Wish mine looked that good.   Enjoy your Nano.  Everyone should have an Ipod, I think!

Nancy, sounds like you had a great Christmas.  I believe that your dh realizes how lucky he is to have you in his life.  You deserved every one of those gifts, too!

Cindy, the special photo is really a lovely gift idea - those things mean so much, and obviously you raised your girls - all four - to appreciate the important things.  Good work!

Debbie, your Christmas sounds as quiet as ours was.  The actual day, I slept through most of, on the bed with Harrison, while dh was playing on the computer with his new game.  I didn't bother to cook except to make some soup.  Speaking of food...Caya, your family is amazing - the feasts you put on sound wonderful.

I'm also more tired than I think I should be - I guess it's just the holiday season, and all it demands of us.  I hope.

Hi girls!  Lots of posts.  I've been MIA for a few days.  Kid drama died down in that that woman never responded back to me, which is good.  I guess I'm tired of being the good girl, letting people crap all over me w/out speaking up.

Had a good x-mas.  X-mas eve day we went to the mall and got the kids pics w/Santa.  Paul is an official N.B. now (non believer).  He was a little dissapointed, but thrilled with his gifts:  a Wii and a Ripstik.  Today he is 11 and I have a Nintendo DS for him and I know he's gonna love that.  We are going to take him to the Pei Wei for dinner (PF Chang lite in a strip mall).  Jaclyn loved all her stuff too, mainly clothes.  She literally tried on all her new underpants from Justice.    On x-mas eve we went to my neighbor, Beth's house and had such a nice time.  It was us and four other families.  The kids had a blast doing a gift exchange.  Jack and Beth went all out w/food.  It was like a gourmet restaurant.  He made this awesome brisket, had an olive bar...big green olives w/gorgozola cheese in them..yum!  Another great cook, made this delicious wild rice cold salad with orange juice, cranberries and pecans, I believe.  It looked as good as it tasted.  It was so nice to go someplace else for the holiday and not have all that work myself.  Beth's house looked like a magazine (she used to work at Arhaus) and it was all so pretty.  My parents had a great time too.   My parents leave for Florida in the am (Friday) and Paul and I go down there Monday.  I can't believe my mother has been here almost a month!  Paul interviews with the cruise retailer on Wed., we go to Disney on Friday night and Sat. night, fly back to Columbus on Monday.  He will probably fly down to Nashville fairly quickly after that for those interviews.  And now, this am, he got a call from a retail trade assoc. based in Alexandria, VA that he's been kind of interested in.  Me, not so much as cost of living is high there.  Also, tons of traffic.  Sooooooo....  I had a great x-mas but am glad it's over because our lives were on hold until then.

I'll take my laptop w/me to FL so I'll be chatting then.  Miss you all.  Thx. for your support during my latest kid drama.  You are all right:  when I move, hopefully things will be different.  And yes, Nancy, I am def. going to be more leary of people.  I am dreading middle school drama.

Oh, one more thing:  I woke up x-mas night at about midnight...had fallen asleep very early that night.  Came to the kitchen to get water and suddenly got this overwhelming nausea and cold sweat.  Typical heart attack symptoms.  I was so sick but didn't barf.  I didn't think I could make it upstairs to get Paul.  I lied back down and it passed, thank God, but I think it's a sign to chill out more.

    Hi All,

We got home last night from our wonderful Christmas with the extended family. I tried to slow down frequently and look at everyone. I really wanted to be able to savor it all. Maybe the best time of all the great times was Christmas Eve at Church. There were 28 of us, four generations now, filling up two pews at the candlelight service. It was so amazing to look at my nieces, nephews, and kids, remembering them as infants, toddlers, etc, and now in their 20's and 30's, some married. If I have done or ever do anything else in my life, the most meaningful by far is being part of this family, raising our kids, establishing and maintaining a long marriage. That  is what counts.

I am back at work now, trying to focus, obviously not doing too well at that since I am posting. I read all the missed posts last night. Sounds like we are all doing ok. Joni, I need an update from you!  Have you heard back from the doctors?  How is your pain?

I didn't think much about bc during the holidays, but did often think of all of you, and of how much you have enriched my life. I know that this past year would have been much scarier and lonelier without all of you. There is just no way to  express how much you all mean to me.

Ok, I really do need to focus on work. I will check in later. Our son is home til Jan 2, and that is nice. He is the neatest of the three, which means the house won't be trashed and he can help me take the tree down this weekend.

    Stay warm, all.

    Hi ladies,

I've been trying to keep up with all the posts..not easy!  Still on pain meds and it's hard to focus.

Rebecca, that dress is lovely on you! I'm so glad your seamstress was able to alter your dress to your liking!  It looks fabulous!

Skye, you look great, love your hair!  I'm so glad you have Grendal, puppies are so much work, but soooo worth it!

Joni, sorry you didn't go to the wedding, hope Dan is feeling better.  Glad they got the IV on the first stick!  Let us know when you hear something!

Jan, glad the inlaws behaved!  Keep meaning to tell you, get a shower chair for after your DIEP.  There is no way I'd be able to stand up and take a shower even now, 2.5 weeks after my DIEP.

Cindy, what a special gift you got, glad you got the largest size pic!

Melia, glad you had a wonderful Christmas with your family and you didn't think of BC!

We had a wonderful XMAS as well.  George gave me a guardian angel pin, it is soo special, I cried my eyes out!  My mom gave me special license plates for my car, here's the link:

    http://www.mass.gov/rmv/express/cureBreastCancer.htm

I was sooo exhausted, I was in bed at 6pm on XMAS night, dozed until around 11, turned the light out and slept until 10 the next morning, then slept much of the day yesterday.  I realized that the several hours we had company was the longest time I've had to focus on anything since my surgery.  I do feel rested today.

I have good news to report.  My sister's path came back as benign!  OMG, I can't even express how happy I am!  What a huge relief!  Also, my path report came back from my left breast mastectomy, there was no cancer at all so it was totally propholactic!

George and I cried together on XMAS eve as we remembered the past year.  He kept thanking me for coming home and being here with him, that's all he wanted!

Our anniversary is Saturday and the Patriots will hopefully complete a perfect season!  We're going over friends house to watch the game, it will be my first time out of the house (except seeing the PS), I'm so excited.

I have so much to be thankful for this holiday season, including all of you, my wonderful sisters!  I love how close we have all become!

Hope everyone is having a nice day!

    love and hugs,

    Lynn

Forgot to mention that the PS took out 3 of my drains...I'm still sporting the drain on my left hip...ugh!  Stubborn too, still producing over 50cc's per day.  Can't get it out until it's under 30cc for 2 days in a row.  Not complaing too much though, 1 drain is WAY better than 4.

Also, I'm now wearing a binder as much as I can.  PS wants me to wear it 24/7...I can't sleep with it yet but am managing to have it on during the day.  I might try to sleep with it tonight...not the most comfortable thing to wear.

    Hello all,

Had a lovely Christmas, I had 17 for dinner, and a gift exchange.  It was lots of fun, but I got so tired.  I've been basically asleep since Christmas day.

I have not heard from my onc, as yesterday was "Boxing Day" which is a stat holiday in Canada.  If I don't hear from them today, I'm going to call tomorrow.  Still having lots of pain from my hip, and I can't walk very well.  I've been taking alot of Advil, so now my stomach is upset....gees you can' win.

Lynn, I'm glad to hear you are doing better, and were able to get rid of 3 drains.  Those things are tough.

On Dec 29th it's my 1 year anniversary since starting chemo.  Whenever I think about chemo, I can still taste it in my mouth.

Skye, that pic of you and Grendel is adorable....he is sooo cute!!

Thor was a really good boy with all the people over.

Tina, you make sure you tell your doctor about that episode you had.  Do you have to go back to the cardiologist?  I would rather move to Florida than Virginia too.  I did alot of work around Baltimore, Washington & McLean, and the traffic drove me insane.

Melia, sounds like you had a lovely Christmas.  We didn't make it to Midnight Mass on Christmas eve, but when we came home we watched the Mass from Chicago on TV.  It was actually very nice.

Debbie, 476 banks....but do they all have money in them?  Ha ha.  I collect elephants.  I have elephants all over my house.

Cindy, that picture of the girls sounds lovely.

Caya, Sharon, Amera, Nancy, Viddie, Jan, hope you are all well.

    Hugs to all....Joni

Lynn - good news that you are down to one drain. Thanks for the info on the shower chair. How is the pain?

Joni - you and Thor both look great. I hope you get your results soon.

I spent most of the day rock climbing with both of my brothers and another friend. DH joined us for awhile too. I managed to get to the top of 2 difficult climbs that I'd never been able to finish before. I even got some applause from bystanders at the end of one climb. Anyway, it was a major accomplishment for me and I'm feeling really good about it.

Oh, Joni, You added 50 banks to my number. So far I have just 426, but give my hubby a couple of years and I might reach your number. No, I don't keep money in most of the banks. A few came with a penny in them, and I keep foreign coins in one, and old coins in another, but the other 400+ are empty.

Joni and Skye, your doggies are good looking. Thanks for sharing their pics with us.

I am glad to see that everyone had a nice holiday.  It was so nice to log on and get a full report on all the lovely gifts that everyone got.  I LOVE presents….and they do not have to be for me!  I just love the whole process, and watching faces light up when opening a well chosen gift.  I usually give my gifts a lot of thought, and select things individually for all my family members, but this year I just could not do it, so everyone got “lucky bamboo” plants in pretty pots.

Skye I am not surprised that Grendel was the hit of the party….and I would definitely say that his behavior bodes well for puppies later one.  Now THAT is going to be something to see.  I will make sure to videotape the expressions on my daughters faces when the baby photos come in!

Tina that was a scary episode in your kitchen.  Please do listen to your body and take it easy.  I am sure that you will  have a full recovery from your heart attack, but it will take time to heal.  I am glad that the poison neighbor did not respond….best to wash your hands of the whole deal.  Who cares anyway…you are likely to be moving anyway!

Melia that sounds like a lovely Christmas experience.  Our families are truly the most precious things in our lives…and of course the thing that most often gets taken for granted.

Jan, I am glad you had a good time at your inlaws, I know you were worried about that.

Cindy that picture sounds marvelous.  What a wonderful gift!

Lynn, glad to see you posting, and I am so happy that you had a nice holiday.  That is a really cool license plate!  They have a conquer cancer one here in NJ, but not specifically for BC.  YAY on your sister’s path report….AND on yours!  Good news all around.

Debbie that is a LOT of banks!  What an interesting collection…maybe you should post some pics….I know I would love to see some of your favorites.

Joni, I really hope you hear back from your onc soon…at the very least I think they need to get that pain under control.  {{{Joni}}}  Keep us posted, and you are often on my mind.  Adorable pup picture!  Your tree is very beautiful.

Well, like Caya we do not formally celebrate Christmas in our home, but since I married into an Irish Catholic family, there are many celebrations for us to attend.  We spend Christmas Eve with my MIL, who cooked up a storm and gave the kids very creative and entertaining presents.  Why she chose to give my son a nerf rocket launcher is beyond me, but he did find his projectile weapon very entertaining indeed.  Luckily for my sanity, and my small breakables, it self destructed in about 24 hours.  She gave the girls each a very intricate color by number set, which kept them both entertained for the balance of the visit.  DH got a very dashing hat, and she pitched in with one of my SILs and bought me a beautiful silver and onyx pendant.

Christmas day we went to my other SIL house.  She lives in a huge house in a very swanky part of town.  Her husband is quite wealthy, and they have no children together (he has three by a previous marriage, and she does not have any).   My SIL has a long track record of “taking care” of my DH in social situations, and is well versed in getting him (ahem) tipsy.  I am aware of this tendency, and as a result I usually stick to diet cola when we go over there.  Well, this time she got under my guard with her magic martini shaker and she plied me with CHOCOLATE MARTINIS.  Lets just say that it is a good thing that she has a huge house with lots of extra beds because there was no way that we were going to make it home!  I wound up singing and dancing with my DH for several hours with nobody  but my SIL and the cheery fire in the fireplace to witness our silliness.  I sang so long, so loud (and probably so out of key) that I actually had a sore throat the next day (went very nicely with my sore head).  In the end, it was an evening of wonderful positive energy, food and comfortable, secure feelings.  To say that it was better than last year would be quite the understatement.

As this year comes around full circle I have come to really appreciate all of the gifts that I have been given.  This year would have been much longer and darker without the solid companionship and the sincere purity of the love that I have found on this list.  You are all very special, and I am so grateful to have met you.

OK, that is enough from me tonight….my fingers are getting sore……..

I want to thank all my Sis's for the Christmas cards! I enjoyed them so much, how a simple card can mean so much... is wonderful!

Mary, my card to you also was returned. I'm sorry you didn't get it, I meant well.

I think today was the longest day or something???? I had all my data entry work done, Paid bills, typed quotes, took the Christmas decor down & put away, old files boxed up and new files in the cabinet and looked at the clock and it was only 11:00! Man oh man! I still had 5 hours to kill! A very long and grey day!

Skye, that is funny that their female is named Izzie, and my girl is Lizzie! She wants Grendel puppies too! He can have 2 wives, can't he? Tomorrow is Jeff's birthday, I went to the store after work to find him a "gift". The store shelves are bare. Everything I thought about, there was a size issue or something. I will bake him a cake at least, his favorite is german chocolate. So hard to have a birthday right after Christmas. Plus, Our anniversary is Jan 8th, our 21st! I actually thought it was the 20th, but he corrected me. I was chemo'd on our 20th and slept though it. Missed that one for sure!

    Good morning gals -

It's 6:15 a.m.and I'm up this early because I have my breast MRI downtown at Mount Sinai Hospital at 9:30 - I am having a major attack of scanxiety- I could barely sleep all night, I've been up since about 4:30 so finally I just decided not to fight it and came down to come into the office and see what's doing online.  The DH is driving me down for the test, I'll be taking 2 Atimans about 20 minutes beforehand so hopefully that should relieve some of the claustrophobic sensation.  This test is just a precauation, I'm not really worried, but I'm anxious - you gals know the feeling. My onc. should have the results when I go for my Herceptin next week, and then about 2 weeks later I have my appt. with my BS.

All your XMAS celebrations sound just lovely, nice for me to experience it vicariously...

Joni - you look lovely (Thor too) and your tree is gorgeous. Praying for good scan results for you.

Debbie - wow - it's piggy bank city at your house.  Try to post a picture for us of a few of them.

Melia - how nice that you have 4 generations of your family celebrating Christmas together.  I remember my darling Bubby Ida was really looking forward to a 4th generation - at my wedding, the photograper took a picture of my mother, my Bubby and me - and he asked - "Oh is this 3 generations?" And my Bubby piped up - "Yeah, and I'm waiting for the 4th." (Not too subtle, eh?). She did live to see a great grandchild (from one of my cousins).

Mel - sounds like you had a nice relaxing XMAS day with Harrison and the DH.

Lynn - sound like you are doing great - 3 drains out with just one left is a big deal.  Take it easy, don't overdo.

Tina - definitely report that incident to your cardiologist and of course take it as easy as possible.  My girls are having an amazing time in Florida - went to the Aventura Mall yesterday, did major retail damage, and went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Have a great time when you go.

Jan - you look great. and Congrats on the rock climbing.

Rebecca - ah, chocolate martinis.  We served those at our anniversary party in October, a big hit.  Your gifts sound lovely too.

Last night a close friend took us out for a great Thai dinner at a trendy restaurant - again for our anniversary.  This 25th anniversary is shlepping out for months... But we had a great meal and alot of fun.  I will probably flake out later today due to like major lack of sleep...

I would also like to add my thanks for all of you and the wonderful online sisterhood we share here.  I check in to read the posts periodically throughout the day and it's just so comforting to have all of you out there...
