No periods - need vitamins WITHOUT iron?

I'm in chemopause, and thus don't lose blood every month like most women my age do. Thus the reason for most women to have extra iron doesn't apply to me. So should I be taking those "senior citizen" multivitamins that don't have any added iron?

    Technically I'm a Crone now...postmenopausal...so why the h-e-double-toothpicks aren't I wise, hmmm?

Welcome Crone!  Of course you are wise!   There are some studies that show that iron can cause a tumor to grow so I have been avoiding iron since my diagnosis.  I vote 'yeah' on the no iron vits.  Best wishes!

    Crystal,

My thoughts are that the iron is only needed to help us when we lose a lot of blood through having periods... no periods, then no iron should be needed as a supplement...  I agree!

    Ruby,

I didn't know that iron could cause a tumor to grow, so that is all the more reason we do not need iron.  I haven't started taking multi-vitamins yet, so when I do I'll have to start buying the senior vitamins.

Wow, I had no idea iron could cause tumors to start! Surprised I guess it's "Centrum Silver" for me! We need to start a club - Young Women Who Take Old People's Vitamins!

The upside is that they are chewable, which means I don't have to choke down those gihugeic horse pills anymore.

    Hi, Crystal--

I had no clue that iron could cause tumor growth.  I steer clear of it because it makes me so constipated I feel like I'm going to explode.  :-(

    I'm a peri-crone, and not only am I no wiser--I feel like I'm losing about 10 IQ points/year.

I took One a day for Men due to no iron content, it's a bit high in B 12 (I think)..I didn't know about Centrum Silver, will check that out next.

Feeling like old wine, getting  better with age...ha....not!!!

I take Centrum Silver and like it a lot. I tend to be sensitive to multi-vitamins but have had no problems with this. I add a few extra things, like calcium, extra D3, and magnesium, but count on the Centrum Silver to give me the basics without iron, which I don't need.
