surgery's over

Well it's finally over. Had my mastectomy with pedicle tram flap surgery last Friday the 14th. I came home yesterday the 18th. I am feeling pretty good. Percuset (not sure of spelling) works very well. Everything went very well. Surgery took about eleven hours. I have some abdominal pain and very little breast pain. As long as you keep up with meds everything is fine. I started slacking a little because they made me tired and I still have yet to have a bowel movement. Will be a week tommorrow(bowels). I'm going to try some prune juice and milk of magno before bed. Just relieved all is over. Path reports won't be back for a couple days so I'm not sure of all that yet. I had 5 drains but only came home with four. Hopefully will get more out at Fridays' appoinment with plastic surgeon. Took my first shower today and felt like a million bucks. Was a little tired after. In the hospital I was only able to wash up. I have a rash around where the binder goes so I am taking benadryl too. VERY ITCHY! Well I must go lay down for awhile. Thanks to all for the kind words and prayers.

Kathleen, reading your comments I will stop complaining about my one drain. Here's to a quick recovery!!!! Carol

Kathleen,
Congrats!!!! I had my bilat on 12/6 and am at day 14. I still have two drains, but haven't been allowed a shower...only sponge bath/wash ups. I CAN'T WAIT FOR A SHOWER!!!!! Oh, the simple pleasure of warm water running down your body and soap. I do get to start moving my arms above penguin pose, however. Yeah!!!!
I get the drains removed on Friday, and another 100cc's added to my expanders. I feel like a prepubecent who just wants to develop like all the other girls. :-)
Here's to a continued easy recovery!!!!

Kimberly, I too was told not to shower, kinda strange how each dr decides if it's okay or not. It's pretty hard to clean around my armpit area with a damp wash cloth or baby wipe and call it clean, my drain today looks like it may be able to come out tomorrow or Fri., yeah I can't wait to shower.

Golfer,
Did the drains come out? I totally get the hard to feel clean with a wash cloth or baby wipe...
I got my drains out today and got pumped up!!!! Tra la la boom de ay!!! I'm leaking a bit from the drain site on the right, but that's normal the nurse said, so it should be cleared up by tomorrow, and then i can SHOWER!!!!

I had my appointment today with my P S. He removed three drains. Only one left...thank God!!! He removed all my bandages. Had to remove the binder it gave me a really bad ITCHY rash. Have to wear control top panties. Feels so much better but feels really swollen. Said I am healing wonderfully. Said to discontinue my antibiotics. I can't believe it was a week ago today that I was in surgery and now I am going to get ready to a Xmas party. I still feel a little tired but I can't wait to get out for awhile. Bye for now and thanks again for all the ptayers. You people sure helped me through a tough time with more to come I'm sure but it's o k to know your not alone in this nasty fight.

You're doing great! Have fun at the party. But don't over do it...take it easy this weekend - if you can.

I'm impressed you're going out to a party a week after tram flap! Have fun!

Kathleen,
That's awesome that you're doing so well!!!!! Hope you had a great time at the party...you'll need to rest today for sure. I'll be going to my staff party tonight and if I am up to it a neighborhood party afterwards.
Hope all of you gals have a wonderful holiday season.
