Hi Zaro,
I'm glad you have another option. Can you do the rads and then chemo? Maybe you could put a call in to your second opinion Onc and see what he says.
Hugs,
Kasey

Dawn, maybe you should hold off for your scans, they are only a few weeks away. Then you will be sure there is no more progression. Your trial should start within two to three weeks of scans and you should be covered that way. You know the chemo will more than likely knock the mets out of the water and if it doesn't you can fall back on the rads. Since you are having no other symptoms to indicate the cancer moving you should have the time to enjoy the chemo break. Let me know if I can help at all.
-
Iam not dealing well with this wait!!!
-
Dawn, I wish I could do something more for you. Is your nodes feeling any worse? Waiting is hard but this trial sounds like a good thing for you. I know I read someone saying they had rads like your rads onc suggested and they did not go well. Did the rads onc talk about possible adverse effects to the rads? If you want to talk please holler.
-
LuAnn,they hurt and the skin around them hurts,it hurts to touch the area.I read Diane and Bimmers story and she had the node trouble and it just got worse and worse for her and it scares me so bad I cant .....I just cant......Iam hollering!!!..............Dawn
-
Hey Dawn, the waiting sucks in this country or part of the country anyway.. for anything. The U of A Cross Cancer? where I think you are going for treatment has one of the best reputations in Canada - I am sure you know that but I know that doesn't help while you are "pending" everything. I know you weren't thrilled with your onc there though - do you have a good GP? to express this all to? Maybe you should come on down to Red Deer to a walk in clinic and see if they can help you out with even something to help you through this extremely trying time....There must be some walk in clinics around where you could get an understanding ear? Or even an ER that could help you get past this part of the anxiety and panic- a bandaid I realize, but just something to hold on to for a few.... Huggggssss to you - I wish I could do more. Even close geographically I feel like it's a million miles away right now.

Well after being off tx for all most 2 months I have found a new larger lump in my neck!!!!this shit just gets better and better.......
-
z,
If your onc is not aware of this new lump you found, you should call him right away to inform him of it and definitely ask him for a new assessment about what treatment you should have and when you should start it. If you think he won't listen to you, have Shane call and ask.
As always i am keeping you in my heart.

Dawn, maybe you should do the rads and then you should be able to get into the trial for the PARP Inhibitor trial.
-
Dawn,
I like what LuAnn just said to you. Do you know if the rads would interfere with the requirements for the trial? If not, that might be a really good thing to do. Another good reason to call your onc!
hugs,
celia
-
Dawn,
I, too, agree with LuAnn. Check out CalGal's thread from yesterday. She is getting good results on the PARP trial!!
There is hope....don't you give up!!
Love you and lots of hugs and prayers,
Bethie (Aus)

I had word that the parp was comming in March to Canada but my onc said it is not.If was to come and I did not have measurable disease then I would not qualify for it.The rad onc left a message yesturday and said that my onc would be phoning on Friday. So I wait again!!!I want a scan to see where things are so I can decide about our trip to Cuba in Jan....Thanks all,I love you to......Dawn
-
Zaro,
My prayers are with you.

I know the onc is calling tomorrow but Iam so stressed out!! I fear the ca has spread else where. There is no way of getting a scan done before we go and they said the results are taking 10 days!!! My kids keep asking about our trip to Cuba and I have no answer for them.I wish I could make this all go away so my kids could just have there mom back......Dawn
-
Dawn, Try to deal with this whole situation in smaller segments---
--in one day (tomorrow) the onc will call and you can ask MANY questions and hopefully some things will be better understood. You do know that from talking with your regular doc that the scan schedule is booked solid, and the likelihood is that you will have to wait for your actual appt (very soon) to be scanned. If any of your docs were really worried about this new lump being the precursor to mets other places in the body, they would probably find a way to scan you sooner. I think that they regard this as a continued problem with the nodes that will be hopefully taken care of with the next treatment.
--in 14 days is the start of your trip to Cuba. After you talk to the onc tomorrow, i think he will be able to give you some clarification about the new lump (perhaps he will possibly see you sooner about it too) and he will be able to tell you if anything needs immediate attention. He may not feel that anything that has happened is medically a "drastic change" for you (even tho you are freaking out about it), in which case you should be able to go to Cuba with the family and ENJOY THAT TRIP!!! It is just one week long!!! You deserve it after all the treatments you have gone thru, and so does your whole family!! You will have a fantastic time watching your kids having the best time ever!!
--after the trip which is one week long, you will have your scans, if i remember correctly, i think on the 19th of January which is about a week after vacation. Anyway i know that the scan is soon after vacation. At that point you will have an answer to your question about progression.
--so, in about one months time, you will have had your conversation with your onc about the new lump, your vacation with the family, and the scans, and you will be ready for what ever treatment is next.
Based on what your scans show (OR DON'T SHOW!) you and the onc can figure out what trial you might be able to do or what treatment you should have. In one months time there may be more info on what trials are available and when they start or what trials have been revised and when they start, which would help you to make the decision.
Your nodes have been the ONLY place where you have the bc and nodes do swell up and then get smaller again all the time anyway with anything that happens to your body. If your onc thought that what is happening right now was "drastic" or he suspected a progression, he would have told you so.
Time does seem to pass VERY slowly when you are anxious, but altogether what you are dealing with will not take a lot of time. And there are some answers that will happen along the way (like the talk with the onc) to help you make decisions. Try not to see this as a whole, just look at the segments--each small step brings you closer to being able to make the decision about what treatment to do. If we could hurry time or slow time down as it was needed, it would be fantastic, but we can't do that so try to take this whole experience a little bit at a time, and try to stay in the present moment...........just look down at your feet and concentrate.........heel..toe...heel....toe...heel....toe....just take baby steps.
Slow down your mind if you can. Anxiety is making you race to figure out everything at once. You are a strong woman deep inside.
hugs and love,
celia

I talked to the onc today, even with the new lump he advises that I take my trip.He said we knew it would grow and he feels it is still in the neck.He is gone to try and change ct scan dates to earlier and has moved my appointment to see him up as well.He is worried about me mentally and has suggested some phycological therapy.I will be starting some sort of zolof or something close to that.He feels that if it has spread outside the nodes that it is still not life threatening.Hummmm................We will do a ct scan and a bone scan in Jan and will start sutent shortly after. Now if I can stay on the up and up I may make to Jan......Dawn
-
Dawn,
This sounds really really good to me. He has moved the appts up for you and that will cut down on your anxiety. He might be able to move the scan date earlier too--YAY!!!! I think that he does not believe that it has progressed past the nodes and i am sure he is basing this on rate of growth you have had (not real fast) and his knowledge of the node area.
i think that psychological therapy is a very good idea (but you knew i would say that!), so try to be open to it because it can really help. It has been a life-changing experience (for the good) for me. Sutent in January---that is the BEST news yet!!!!!!
He says it is "not life-threatening" i think because he believes that medical intervention will produce good results. You could even end up NED. And there are lots of chemos and treatments for you to use. It seems that he is trying to say to you that "it is NOT over yet." Dawn, you have plenty of life to live. Your onc is treating your bc as a chronic thing--it is there in the back of everything, but it CAN be beaten down. He thinks you should go on your vacation and i really hope that you do!!!!!! Next appointment with him--ask him to explain to you what he means when he says "not life-threatening."
Dawn, you will have to fight with yourself, but you CAN stay on the "up and up." If you need help with this, i am just a phone call away.
Love and Hugs,
celia

Hi all, I have been off the boards for a few days, and tonight Aus kindly reminded me that all of you were wondering how my scans went.Iam sorry to have not posted earlier.I got the results back yesturday. The ct scan did not pick up any of my nodes in my neck, this is weird because we can see them and feel them but the scan some how did not pick them up.1 node under my pec muscle showed but is unchanged from last scan. The spot on my T2 has not changed since last scan and whats weird about this is the ct scan picked it up but not the bone scan.We are doing an ultra sound monday of my neck to see what the heck is going on.So I guess for not having chemo for 2.5 months the results were good, better then I had thought they would be.I got randomised to the sutent arm of the trial and will start that on Monday.Iam nervous and anxtious but also glad to be starting soon.Thank you all for your support, hugs and prayers.............Dawn.........God bless all of you and yours......
