symbol suggestions for 6/07 Washington DC
OK, let's get all of our symbol suggestions together and then we can decide on one. We have the pink ribbon with black borders, an upside down pink ribbon with black borders. How about a pink ribbon with a black band across the top loop (like the police do to their badges to honor fallen comrades)? How about some more suggestions??

Sounds good Joy,
Think we should avoid the upside down ribbon though. Pink with black band across the top loop sounds good. I don't have a publisher or art program on my computer, so maybe someone who has this type of software can make a few different designs.
Thanks,
Brenda

I agree about the upside down ribbon. My dil is good at this stuff...I'll ask her to try a few designs for us.
-
I think the pink ribbon with a black band across would be my choice.

There are several graphic artists on board here. I'm sure somebody could come up with something. I will check around....
-
I think a black tshirt with a pink noose on it would really get noticed, and would be understood immediately. What do you think.Pearl
-
I think that those who could get a graphic design together using the idea of a pink ribbon but in a new way, should do this and we can vote on it.
I, personally, don't like nooses.
-
How about this - the number 40,910 inside a circle with a line through it? As in "NO MORE!" "NOT ALLOWED" or something to that effect?
Trish
-
Or how about a black ribbon banner across the top loop of the pink ribbon with "40,00" on it?? Who can help us with this design?? We need your talents!!
-
Instead of a new forum, maybe you could move this topic to the Get Togethers forum. They use that forum to set up get togethers of sorts. That will clear up some room at the top of the mets thread so we don't missing helping another sister in need.
-
Great idea LuAnn, however I'm computer illiterate! How do I do that?
-
Although I don't think I can make it to Washington DC, I guess I may be able to help with the design. How about something like this? I just did a quick job and it's not done yet. I want to make the rose simpler to look more like a symbol.

Just a little idea.
Hugs,
Fumi

Great picture Fumi!
Maybe we can change the ribbon to black and the rose to pink?
Since we want to show the loss that we endure each year?

Email the moderators and tell the forum and the thread that should be moved. They will be able to take care of it from there.
-
I emailed the mods and asked them to start a new thread for the Memorial.
It will be easier to find it if we have a separate thread for it! The rose is a great picture. ALso like the idea of a pink ribbon with black banner.
-
My daughter is a graphic artist. I asked her to work up a few ideas.
Also I had a pink ribbon for my avatar. I had to change it

I'm communicating with Melissa. I'll let you guys know as soon as we get something worked out!!!
-
how about an upside down pink ribbon with "help" underneath or through the ribbon ......... or 'stop the madness' , or 'let's get real', or 'we're dying to hear what you're doing for a cure', or 'give our kids a chance', or 'ask US where the money should go' ..............
i'm canadian, but my frustration runs as deep as all of yours does ......... i wish you all the very best in your endeavours!

Is this for any breast cancer sister?
I would love to get Involved with the fight!
I Love the Black Rose it will be noticed as a sad day!!!

I can certainly help. I'm a computer graphic artist- meaning I can take existing images and alter them about any way. However : I'm not an artist that draws free hand. The right images need to be available. BTW- images like this makes good posters/signs; but you need simple- clean line art for a logo.
Can't do much before Xmas but will think about it over the holidays. Keep sending in those suggestions. I like Fumi black rose and ribbon, but yes the rose needs to be more simple.
Cheers
BTW : here my business's webpage. I had to get out of web design business because of my SSD does not permit that much revenue. I was in it for years and had quite a few sites. I still do 2 animal charity sites and my BC , I bearly can keep up with them!

Shepgirl,
That's awesome!!!
Puppyfive, we're planning a march in Washington DC in June as a memorial for the 40,910 women and men lost every year to breast cancer. The design is for the t-shirts we'll wear and posters we'll carry. I'm working on getting the permit for our march right now. And also trying to get a location here on the boards where we can centralize all our information. We'd love to have your ideas!!!

shepgirl, that is Awesome!!
How about all of our Biker Sister and Brothers help us!
They get a lot of Respect and help many with problems!

WOW- this is so exciting. I want to come too!
I like the idea of the pink ribbon with the black band across it, and on the band it should say 40,910
-
Beth,
Your idea is great, simple and very recognizable!! And we're going to put you to work too!!!
-
Ladies,
All the ideas are great so far. I love Shepgirls picture with Shel38's "we're dying to hear what you are doing for a cure". That would look awesome in a poster. I think we should get all the designs together and vote on them.
Someone on one of the thread's suggested we do a "silent" march. I think that is a great idea as well.
Bren, let me know what else I can do.

FYI— This was the graphic of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power):
I think what works about this graphic is that it: 1. is simple 2. is catchy and 3. draws on existing iconography (the pink triangle--a sign of associated with the oppression of gay folks during the holocaust. Jews were made to wear a yellow triange. Gay people were forced to wear a pink triange.)
We need something LIKE THIS for our movement!
I like the idea of reworking the pink ribbon to make it less "pink" (rosy) and more confrontational.
-
What about involving that cartoon man who drew Lisa for Funky Winkerbean? He might have a good idea?
-
I've also asked somebody to think about a logo. As has been said:
The logo must be simple and clear. And it should be recognizable which is why the pink ribbon should probably still be the central part of it. The black band is a good idea. I might mention this to my graphic artist. He needs ideas.
Once we get a forum up here on the boards, we need to coordinate all the threads with all the ideas.
I would like to urge those doing the organizing...please have it on a Sunday instead of a Saturday. Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. I, personally, have some politically influential friends and relatives that could possibly organize large groups to come to DC but NOT on a Saturday.
-
Okay RavDeb, I was actually thinking about that when I went to bed last night. I'll call the DC permit office today and ask about SUNDAYS!
Brenda
-
Boy, I'll be glad when we get all of these posts in the same place!

Someone suggested on one of the other threads to make it a 2 day event. I think that's a great idea! It's pretty exciting that this will be the very 1st of many in the years to come where we all join our sisters and make ourselves heard!!
-
thanks for looking into Sundays. Suzy..that's a good point about the Sundays.
