I've always loved his music. He was only 56. Sad.

Yes, battled if for 3 years?  Sad to see it myself. I always feel a kinship when someone I know passes from cancer.

I hadn't heard that.  I liked him too, way back when.  How sad.

Prostate cancer is really a horrible thing.  Unfortunately it's the male disease in my family.

Beesie does the brca1 or 2 gene run in your family? I wondered because aren't breast and prostate cancers related?

I have heard that breast and prostate cancers are related...hormone driven.  I am the third of 4 sis to get bc... the first passed away but the remaining 2 have the BRCA1 gene and all our daughters do as well.

Yes, breast cancer and prostate cancer are related.  If the BRCA genetic mutation is found in a family, the women (and men) are at high risk for BC and ovarian cancer, and the men are at high risk for prostate cancer.  There are other cancers (pancreatic, melanoma, and others) that also seem to be more prevalent in families with the mutation.

I was tested for the BRCA mutation and don't have it.  Prior to testing, the genetic counsellor agreed that I faced a risk from both sides of the family.  On one side there is a history of breast cancer; on the other side, while there is no BC or ovarian cancer (but also very few women who survived past age 30 over the past 100 years), there is a history of prostate cancer.  Although I've tested negative for now, I suspect that there is a genetic component to my cancer, just one that hasn't been discovered yet.

My husband called me to tell me about Dan Fogelberg.  I felt real bad about this as I saw him perform at the University of Illinois, at a coffee house, when I was still in college.  He was wonderful then and that was before he was well known.  Fifty six is way too young!

How sad.  I thought prostrate cancer was one of the more curable.  Dan Fogelberg's music was a huge part of my young adulthood.

I am trying to upload a pic of one of my all time favorite singer/songwriters. Notice I use one of his lyrics as my sig line. If the pic doesn't work, visit danfogelberg.com You will see many of his gorgeous face, be able to listen to music and read his beautiful lyrics.

He is better off now, he wrote a testimonial on his web page urging men to be tested early and often. Telling men that they would not want to live as he has the past few years.

He will be missed and live on in his music and memories.

Oh the pic didn't work. I do not know how to do it on the new and improved bc.org. Sorry, it is the one in Maine on the boat, if you visit his site.

I went out and bought his greatest hits CD yesterday. I had a cassette of it but don't have a cassette player any more. His song Leader of the Band is stuck in my head-- in a good way.
