An inspirational evening

I had such a fun evening that I wanted to share this with you all. I participated in a fund raising event tonight for The Breast Cancer Fund and my local cancer rehab center. It was part of the Lunafest series (http://www.lunafest.org/causes.cfm) and hosted by Lululemon Athletica, which is an athletic clothing store here in town.
About a dozen of us survivors walked a runway, modeling Lululemon attire, while our cancer biographies were read. We were all at different stages of recovery, different ages, different treatments, yet bound together by cancer. We are all athletic women, and it ws doubly inspirational to hear what we're accomplishing as we progress through cancer.
Hearing the cheers, "working it" on the runway, and seeing the loving faces in the audience, all while we're supporting each other (many of us strangers, brought together by cancer, and therefore friends forever)--it moved me to tears in a way I've never experienced.
I'd never chose to have cancer, but the people I have meet because of this disease are amazing.
Oh, and I got a great discount on my outfit. I'm going to start climbing again in the rock gym this week, and I know what I'll be wearing!

Anne..That sounds amazing! And I'm so jealous...I LOVE Lululemon stuff!!!! It's great news that you'll start climbing again this week...that's what moving on is all about, right?!

Congrats on the modeling gig and new clothes. And a special hoo-rah for starting back climbing!
I didn't miss the point of your post, honest. The bonding of we sisters is still an amazing thing to be part of.

Marin, you would have loved this event. The lululemon clothes (and reps) were fabulous. But the active women were awesome. Triathletes, women who hiked 14ers (our Colorado term for mountains above 14000 feet high), a lady who has corporate sponsorhip and summited Mt. Shasta--and run-of-the-mill exercisers like me.
I've decided I need a fitness goal to focus on. Like the Mt. Shasta fundraiser, or something along those lines. I'm so motivated now!

That sounds like a great goal, Anne! How high is Mt. Shasta? I've never done climbing and would probably be a real baby about it. I think I'm sticking to dance...indoors! Those women sound really so inspiring too....and all in one place, sharing their experiences...wow!
I do have a fitness goal for the upcoming year though and plan to incorporate more meditative work in my routine (like yoga or yogalates). I'm too pumped up and Tigger-like, ya know? But I do want to become Zumba-certified too. Oh yeeeaaaah! (Tigger again
).

I don't know that I'll do the Mt. Shasta thing, but here's the link (in case anyone else is interested) http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=85494
Tigger-like? Me too. Nice term!
