I figure if we bombard Oprah with your letter they will respond. And any other TV host you can think of.

Let them know, breast cancer doesn't happen only in October.

How about sharing their email addresses so more of us can "bombard" them.  Until I was dx with stage 4 mets breast cancer I was ignorant in a lot of areas relating to this and still on a learning journey.  Our stories need to be shared and not ignored 11 months out of the year.

I am beginning to wonder if what all of you have to say really matters to anyone? It does not seem to so far.

You have stage IV breast cancer. You're not famous, you don't have any money and so far what you have to say is not getting heard.

What are you going to do about this ladies?

    Bimmer,

Odalys and I are talking about a rally in Miami, a "Where is Our Memorial?" march.  Not a pink ribbon fundraiser, but a black shirt march for the 40,000 lost each year.  She has contacts there and we're starting to put something together.  The powers that be can't ignore us if they can SEE us.

    love to you and Diane,

    Bren,

Not sure what I could do, but I would love to help you & Odalys anyway I can.

With all the money that this disease has generated there ought to be a cure by now.  We need to let the powers that be know we are

MAD AS HELL and not going to take it anymore.

Let me know what I can do.

How does one become a "real" breast cancer advocate?

I want to sign up. I'm mad as hell.

Maybe I can't do much about it by myself, but maybe if we all band together we can be heard!

I have the passion, the words, and painfully, the experience.

    How can I do more?

    Suzy,

I did some checking on getting a permit to hold a memorial for all the fallen angels in front of the White House.  It's easy ... pick a date, fill out a form and send them $50.  My vision was a Memorial for the 40,000 lost this year.  We can march in front of the White House with 750 or less people, with more and up to 3,000 will need to be in the Mall.  Personally, my feeling is Komen and the other foundations are there to raise money for research, awareness, etc.  We are there to raise awareness of 40,000 wives, daughters, sisters and mothers we have lost this year.

I will be happy to submit the form if you think there is enough interest and we can get the word out nationwide.

Count me in wherever it is. JMO...because pink is the standard at all walks, etc. I think black would have a more serious tone, and since this is all about the casualties...black would have obvious significance, making it more appropriate. I agree, it would be great if Komen would consider taking this under their wing.

In writing to all these people, don't forget to add our list of angels.

I agree with Laura, Black would be much more of a statement.  Ask most of the ladies here and I bet you they would say they are sick of pink.

Although having the Komen support would certainly make things easier I would like to see a more grassroots kinda thing.  Just a bunch of people banding together to ask the real questions and letting the nation hear US.

Frankly, I'm getting a little tired of all these "organizations" and the lack of any real progress.  I'm with Bimmer, I'm angry.

Pink is easy to ignore ... I did, until I became one of the victims.  Pink is hope.  Pink is 90% survival rate.  Pink, as is the perception of the AIDS epidemic, is "managed".

    Black carries the message.

Black is bold, and traditionally associated with mourning, befitting a March for Fallen Angels. To me, Pink is more publicly associated with breast cancer survival. But jmo.

I bookmarked a Google Search for 2008 march in Washington D.C. some time ago should anyone wish to see it:

http://www.nps.gov/cahi/planyourvisit/permits.htm This is for Capital Hill Park Permits

Google Search: The National Park Service of the United States Department of the Interior, US Capital permits

Maybe you might consider simultaneous marches: one in D.C., and one in Miami to increase their presence/ ?press coverage. California would be great too, as would Michigan (spreading it around)

A "Rolling Fallen Angels" name list on an electronic sign would have to be considered on private property: I am wondering if the National Breast Cancer Coalition in Washington "owns" their place and we might approach them about this, all contributing to purchase the electric/computerized hardware. Such a sign in a viewable window is typically very effective. It's just an idea, a start. 40,000 ladies, 800 men per year. Wow.

You know, I'm not much for politics.

    Who would you vote for?

But I am impressed and enthused that a bunch of stage IV cancer girls are pissed off at "the system" and "pink" and what is considered to be "regular" breast cancer organizations.

Well ladies, if you do one thing before you die, try to do something to bring that number (40,910) down to a more acceptable figure.

Ooops, I'll bet then you won't be able to accept that number either, I know how women are....

    What then...

    Step up, speak up!

    Bimmer,

I am not Stage IV, but that doesn't mean I'm any less angry.   I hate this disease and don't think enough is being done to find a "CURE".

I love your words -  STEP UP, SPEAK UP!   We all definitely need to do just that!!!

I'm on the other side of the country, but I know how to get on a plane. And I'll wear BLACK for every woman in my BRCA-1 line. Generations of women dying and still no cure.

    Hi Tender,

I've already researched the availability of marching in DC in early summer.  Thanks for the link.  I had already found the site and the form to fill out.  Valerie is helping me with this too.  We are planning a memorial for the 40,910 lost.  We aren't planning this to collect money for a cure or any association with any other fund raising organization.  We are sisters walking in front of the white house as a memorial to our fallen angels.  Right now we're trying to see how much interest there actually is, then I'll go ahead and file the papers and pay the fee for the permit.  We can be right in front of the White House with under 750 people, over that and they'll move us to the Mall.

So, how about it ... how many of you think you can find a Saturday in June sometime to be in DC??

I think this is a great idea. I am angry too. I am not a stage 4 , but any of us could be in this great big crap shoot. I've always hated the pink. They took something as horrible as breast cancer , dressed it in pink , and awww , thats much better!grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I think black on pink wrist bands too , in memory of all the fallen sisters and brothers to this terrible diasese. I'm only one , I can't do everything , but I can do something! Lets do this!

You can count on me too! I'll gladly help you with some of the organizational stuff, Bin and Valerie. I'm in Virginia.

June sounds good. Not too much rain. Late June (like 3rd to 4th week) kids are out of school. We gotta find out when Congress lets out for summer recess. It would be great to do this when they are in session. House Representative Jim Moran DVA) has been active in Women's Town Hall meetings, and his staff is great.

I've been racking my head about the Memorial to Fallen Angels idea. I just don't figure any public downtown land will be available for a permanent memorial. But perhaps a private rolling list of the fallen on private territory with a memorial....

    Bin, I'll pm you too.

    Great idea, Bin and Valerie!
