Is Soy out if you are ER+
Comments

Seems like it might be and I just bought some soy burgers.

I am estrogen positive. My oc said to avoid soy products. I used to eat bags of roasted soy nuts before dx.
Sorry...

I honestly don't know. I go to a new onc. in Jan. and will ask her this question myself. From what I've read, soy in moderation won't hurt. But, what is moderation? Actually, soy and soy products are in just about everything we eat and drink. The list of foods that contain plant estrogen is as long as my arm and part of my leg. If I lived by that list, I wouldn't be eating many veggies---and THAT's not gonna happen...love my veggies.

It makes you wonder if anybody really knows. I have followed the onc's advice so far and then I pick up a magazine at the health food store that says just about the opposite of everything.
For example promoting DHEA, melatonin, progesterone and in the treatment or protection against breast cancer.
I guess we all have to find our own answers especially those of us who are interested in alternative or supplemental care.

Bliz please dont go to mags at health food store! These mags are...to sell suppliments, not something you want to advise you on life-or-death issues!Or if REAL health mags, they're not talking to US.We are different.Preventing bc is different from living w/es+ bc.
Who ya gonna call? Not GhostBusters. Your ONC!!!
HE 's the only one who can advise you on foods and suppliments and their potential safety or danger to you!
I'm es+ and my onc said a little soy is fine, but concentrations of SOY ISOFLAVONES(which are in MOST soy products, such as(sorry) burgers, meal bars, protein drinks-NO.
These things are GREAT for the masses, and very healthful. But for us if we are Estrogen +?No good.
My3Girls, roasted soy nuts dont have concentrates and are a form of pure soy. They are OK!Bags of them, well no.But a couple of bags a week could be OK.
Tofu is OK, Tempeh is OK.Not a constant diet of it, but occasionally OK.Edaname is great.Edaname are the fresh vegetable of soy beans. They look (and taste )like lima beans and are used as a vegetable, and in salads.
Best plan for all here, join the rest of us es+ vets in being lable-readers!

I've almost given up eating anything processed because of the soy content in them. Getting back to the way we use to eat with fresh this and that actually has been fun. And it starts up the memories of being a youth when there wasn't anything coming from a box on our plates unless it was wheaties the breakfast of champions!

That's weird. I posted this a.m. and it never showed up.
I am thinking we have to take it all with a grain of salt and figure it out for ourselves. There are so many possibly carcinogenic elements in just about everything. Even the docs dont know for sure.
At least I was grateful that my onc has been honest about what they dont know and the fuzzy science behind some of their recommendations.
