I need to catch up on all the nutritional posts....I know we have radically changed our diets since my bc dx. I enjoy the recipes posted and wisdom shared! One of the easiest ways for me to get a variety of fruits/veggies is through smoothies. Anybody have (or heard of) a Vita Mix (high powered blender)?? I bought one (used) a while ago, and use it at least daily, often more. My daughter's favorite is a Kale/Pear smoothie.....I know there is NO way I could get kale in her any other way!!!! Also...b/c it is a blender (not juicer), you get all the benefits from the fiber as well. I was just wondering if any of you have heard of these?? I can't say enough about them!!!!!! Smile

    Annie,

I would be interested to know the recipe for kale/pear.  I usually juice kale, but I don't want to juice it everyday, so making a smoothie of it sounds great.  If it works for kale, then it probably will work with collard greens, ever see the nutrients in collards?  They're packed with B vitamins.

    Hi

Sorry for the delay in my reply.....here is the recipe....it is awesome!

1 c. green grapes (or I sub kiwi or apple)

    1 orange peeled and sectioned

    1 banana

    1/2 barlett pear

    1 c. kale

    1/2 c. water

2 c. ice (give or take depending on whether you are using fresh or frozen ingredients...I freeze the grapes and bananas and kale so I can use less ice and get more concentrated nutrition out of the smoothie).

I have not tried putting collard greens in smoothies. Is the taste similar to kale or completely different? I need to check into the collard greens too I guess. I try to get things that I know we wouldn't normally 'eat' into smoothies. Always looking for more ideas! Enjoy the smoothie recipe!

    Here's my favorite smoothie recipie:

    1 frozen banana

    handful frozen strawberries

    handful blueberries(not frozen)

First blend 2tbsp cottage cheese and 1tbsp high lignan flax oil until custard in appearance.  You may have to add a little juice to thin it.  This goes along with the Budwig Protocol.

Then add your fruits, fill up with organic juices of your choice and add organic cocoa.  Blend til smooth and get brain freeze with a straw!  It Rocks!

Hi.  We have a Magic Bullet that we use to make smoothies.  My favorite combo is pineapple juice, I just pour in about an inch or two, a banana, a sprinkle of coconut flakes, and enough ice to make it the texture I want.

I often hear people who say they will add a slice of cabbage, or handful of spinach (or kale) to their fruit smoothies and it does not change the taste. I freeze my kale and it goes great in the kale pear smoothie I make. Might take some experimenting so you don't end up with a BROWN smoothie....sorry I can't get past a less than appetizing color...though the kale pear smoothie is the prettiest color green and very, very good!!!!!
