~~~~~~~
I always like these award shows and the Hollywood Foreign Press usually has a more edgy view on nominations and awards than with other award shows. I like that movies and tv shows are awarded together.
These particular nominations don't excite me. I don't think that Katherine Heigel is the star I would have chosen for a nod for supporting female. I would have gone with Chandra Wilson (Bailey) or Sandra Oh (Yang). I was disappointed that David Annabel (Justin from Brothers and Sisters) and Jesse Plemons (Landry from Friday Night Lights) weren't given  supporting actor nods.
I thought it was great that Californication was nominated, even though I never caught on to the show, I like to see edgy and creatively different programs nominated.
Any other thoughts?
    Okay, where have I been?  I haven't heard of most of these movies and shows.  I guess I live in cable land.
    Most of the movies haven't come out or are just coming out now. A lot of the tv shows are on cable or paid cable.
    Wow, thanks, Amy! I'm dying to see Atonement and American Ganster (omg, Denzel!!!) and just loved Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose! Also, Julie Christie in Away From Her was amazing! But my very favorite of all was A Mighty Heart and Anjelina Jolie's performance....first rate, truly!!!!
    Thanks Amy--Wanted to know where Sweeney Todd was going to fall in that list.  I love Sondheim--and Sweeney Todd has some of his most beautiful songs.  Add Johnny Depp, and what appears to be a mirror image in Helen Bonham Carter----Well its got to be great!  I know where I'll be next weekend.
    It might not, Marin. Because of the writer's strike, there's talk now that the show might NOT go on - although it is set to air on January 13...
    The Golden Globe folks have filed for something like a "strike lift" - which would allow the writers, producers and everyone to cancel the picket line for one night only. SHould be interesting to see if it happens or not...
    From tvguide.com today:
    Katherine Heigl is in good company. Damages' Glenn Close and Mad man Jon Hamm are among the latest Golden Globe nominees to come forth and say they will not cross the WGA picket line to attend the big show. "There's no way I would cross a picket line," Variety quotes Hamm as saying. "Not only in respect to [executive producer] Matt [Weiner], but I'm in 100 percent agreement with him in this fight. It would be a drag not to go, but you have to take a stand."
    But will the Jan. 13 Globes ceremony actually be targeted by picketers? Hairspray helmer Adam Shankman tells Variety, "I think it would be a smack in the face if there was striking at the ceremony because it would be undermining the achievements of their own guild. I think it's a horribly counterintuitive idea to strike something that celebrates their own membership."
