Has anyone tried Pur Minerals it's amazing stuff and can make such a difference without any irritation.  You can find amazing deals on it on believe it or not Shopping Channels.  I always wait for the Show Stopper that's what they call it in Canada, I don't know what they call on QVC.  I love Pur Minerals and she has all sorts of shades of eyeshadows.  I espically love the Marble Powder, when I'm really lazy but want to look half decent I use it on my cheeks, as an eye shadow and bronzer, I take different brushes and pick at the different shades in the one compact.   Even the mascara is made from Minerals and doesn't irritate eyes. PUr minerals usually throws in the brow kit when they have the SS on it's great wax with powder and a great brush I also use to apply liner with a dark brown powder.I still can't use mascara need my lashes to grow in but that mascara is the only stuff that hasn't caused irritation.  The pur mineral 4in1 pressed powder really workes great and covers a ton of problems.  My favorite makeup remover that doesn't hurt eyes is Clinique'a Take the day off. Works fast and removes everything.  I remember a time when I wouldn't leave the house without makeup but now it really depends on my mood. I should get back into the habit again.  Yeterday my son asked for a lift to the Docs and I put makeup on including the whole brow thing and the P.M. pur radiance and when we went to my pharmacy the pharmacist who has seen me look so bad she even told to go home and she would set up a delivery for free, said I looked really good yesterday. I alway put on the pur radiance when I want to fool someone into thinking I'm healthier than I am. Was great for hangovers at work, had a boss who would work me hard if she found out I had a hangover and it always tricked her including a bright coloured blouse or sweater.  For foundation I love Revlon's all day it really works and really does stay on and doesn't ruin whites in summer.  Physicians formual has the mineral powder, I bought the loose and make such a mess with it I haven't used it much but will in the summer.  I have olive skin but for some stupide reason it's really sensitive so the PM and clinique is great. Oh yeah my sis bought a cute little fuscia coloured kit with all kind of stuff in it I tried the eyeshadow yesterday and no problem with irritation and thank god my eyes only tear at certain times now not all day like before. So makeup has to become a routine, I'm getting depressed so I better punch everything up.  Babbling again sorry

shel, I agree that the defencils mascara is really good, but I had no luck getting it off at night, even with eye makeup remover, and it stained my pillows something awful.  What do you use to get it off?  It seems more like a dye than most other mascaras.

Some Thirty five years ago I had electrolysis done to my brows to get rid of my Uni-brow look.  Well, apparently she took way too much off one side and my eyebrow doesen't start where its supposed to.  Don't even ask what she did with the arch----Needless to say they were quite a mess even before chemo.

Forget about the arch---thats always been a complete mystery to me.-----Even Look Good Feel Better couldn't get me something that was struggle-free.

So, yesterday after making a resolution to put my credit cards in a block of ice in the freezer---Of course I tuned into HSN to see what looks like a miracle product for 19.95. (I never watch this stations!) That is more in my price range.

I've looked at brow products before but the Anastasia brow products out of my price range for now.

It's from Adrienne Arpel and although I've never used any of her products this one looked foolproof----Signature Club A by Adrienne 24 Hour Eyebrow Design Kit.  It comes in light and medium.

Since I have gray in my brows I wasn't quite sure which color but I got the medium.

    It contains

    # 3-piece Brow Stencil Set -  this set contains 1 Natural Brow Stencil, 1 Medium Brow Stencil and 1 Full Brow Stencil
    # Brush-On 24 Hour Eyebrow Color made in USA
    # Eyebrow Design Pencil

I figured for twenty bucks it may be worth taking a chance so I ordered.

PS.--I read a tip about using first aid fabric tape to adhere the stencil to the brow to make it easier to use while filling in.  I'm going to try that.

I was channel surfing a few months back, and saw Lauren Hutton with her makeup line on HSN. My old makeup just wasn't working for me anymore. So I tried some. I'm really impressed with it.    Kate

I have had to fill in my brows since I was a late teen.  I believe it is because of low thyroid.

I finally gave myself a Christmas present a few years ago and had them tattooed --- it's great to have facial expressioon even when I get up in the morning.

Unfortunately, I'm a (bottle)auburn haired gal and they didn't have red in the facial dyes at that time.  I understand they have them now.  I just use some red/orange eyeshadow to fill in and the brows look auburn, instead of light brown.

Speaking of brows, can anyone suggest a brow color/groomer in a shade lighter than light brown?  I have about three white hairs only in my left eyebrow and I use that stuff but it is still too dark in the light brown.  The "stuff" looks like mascara in the same sort of tube with a brush.

How I missed this thread is beyond me.  I have to go back and read from the beginning but OMG, I just had britesmile done today.

have any of you ever had it?  My brother and some friends told me I'd be in pain today, cause your teeth get really sensitivefor 24 hours, but i'm dying over here.

I took three darvocet, in the last 4 hours.

No pain no gain. no pain no gain.  I keep repeating that to myself.

oh, and after I backtrack on this whole thread, I have the BEST MASCARA tips ever.

and hair tips too-- for anyone out there that has curly hair.

yay. i love this thread already and i haven't even read it yet. LOL.

hoping this pain subsides soon.  How is it that I can get my breasts chopped off and made out of my stomach, and live with six drains, etc-- and a little britesmile and i'm ready to crawl under a rock and die??? lololol

Ooooh, Beth, is that one of those dentist-inflicted tooth-whitening treatments?  My dentist offers one but I'm kind of chicken even though my teeth are naturally not really white.  NOT from smoking and coffee, etc. so I'm conflicted if I need to FIX their color.  True, not pearly white..........Sorry you are in pain and I love the comparison to all the surgeries.  I guess we all have our weak spots!

Bring on the mascara tips!  And, PLEASE, tell me how to deal with my curly, 3" long hair!  Talk about Harpo! LOL

Hope you feel better really soon.  I'd recommend a coupla wines but not after the Darvocet.

PS I'm sorry I didn't name this thread Salon de Beaute.  It would have been more encompassing.

Beth if you have any fluoride gel or rinse get that on your poor enamel ASAP.

As an RDH, I hate that Britesmile crap. As your bco sister, I hope it feels better soon and that you are happy with it. I know that thouands of people choose that route.

For others, it shouldn't HURT to get your teeth lightened. Go to a professional and use a gradual program, you will still notice a huge improvement in a week's time. And you'll have your own trays and leftover gel (shelf-life of 3+ yrs if kept in the fridge) so that if you want to boost w/a little extra whitening before a vacation or New Year's party, you've got it right there! No suffering! Enamel, gingival margins and root surfaces intact.

    Okay, rant over.

thanks lisa-- I have sensodyne toothpaste but it's the water I'm afraid of.  If I keep my mouth closed it's not that bad.

I'm kinda bummed cause I only went from a D-2 to a B-1.  I guess I should be happy with that, but I was hoping they'd be much brighter.

I have always taken such good care of my teeth.  I have no cavaties, and amazing gums... everyone in my family has problems with gingivitis and periodontis something or other, and they have crowns and root canals and I never wanted my teeth to be like that, so I brush all the time, and floss after I eat.  I really thought this would boost my smile.  I never wore braces, and I just want my teeth to look like the actresses on tv.  But I guess I would need fake teeth for that-- omg i can't even think of what they're called.  sorry if I'm rambling-- it's from taking the darvocet...lol

Anyway, as soon as I get my brain back together I will talk about mascara.  It's 85% technique.  And there are three brands that I swear by.

veneers! thats what I was thinking of... porcalian veneers... I'm guessing that's what I'd need if I want a smile like I see on t.v.

I guess I can live with what I've got.

Okay, now I really have to stop typing before you all think I'm nuts.

Hon, if you went from a D-2 to a B-1 this did boost your smile. You'll just notice it more when you're not hurting so bad. And in a few, after you've forgotten the hit your budget took from this method, ask your dentist or hygienist about at-home bleaching, where you control the degree of brightness. Also, if the teeth begin to experience even the tiniest bit of sensitivity, you back off for a few days and lose nothing of the progress already gained. I often advise my patients to put a fluoride gel into the same at-home trays once a week (only for a couple of minutes) to reinforce their enamel. We're not after just white teeth, but a healthy, beautiful smile.

IMO, it would be criminal to put veneers over healthy enamel. No DDS can improve on the original equipment when it comes to enamel. We can straighten, we can whiten, but porcelain doesn't begin to replace enamel. Visualize the bottom of a porcelain teacup after ten years. 'nuff said.

oh- budget-- not too bad-- it was the big winter sale...

half the price.  I'm starting to feel better.  Then again, I've taken the daily max for pain pills at this point.

So when all is said and done, to anyone reading this thread for beauty tips, don't do brite smile.

I may feel differently tomorrow. Wink

Kate-I'll let you know how natural the brow kit looks.

Its been such a long time since I've worn any makeup aside from a little lipstick and blush.

Yes, I almost bought the eyeliner kit too, but I was afraid the applicator would be too long for me to handle.  When I looked at the feedback they either loved the length or hated it.

I really wanted the kit for the eyeshadow stick that could double as a blush.  They did not sell it individually.

But, it was contained in another set with a very big, very gaudy gold bag.  Huge set of makeup and some of her cremes-----Since I had nothing (at this point even my lipstick is gone!) I and actually needed many of the products--it was quite a holiday bargain.

I'll be curious about  that 5 essentials creme with the vit C---For some oddball reason--(and I'm probably the only one on these boards with this quirky side effect) --Effexor XR and anything with a serotonin re uptake inhibitor component seems to leave me with Seborrheic Dermatitis--real bad in my eyebrow area and the sides of my nose and mouth---so maybe this will help.

Lori...You've probably already used Nioxin? I use several shampoos, alternating among them all, but my favorite is Kerastase (the volumizing line). I also like the Matrix volumizing line as well. For me, though, I swear by the biotin and the massage to keep my hair from thinning on an AI.

Beth...I hope that you're feeling better by now? I'll stick with Crest Whitestrips, thank you, though my teeth are pretty white anyway (despite years of smoking and coffee-drinking). But PLEASE bring it on with your mascara secrets! My lashes never really regenerated too well after chemo so I'm obsessive about making them thicker and longer with whatever methods I can find!

I also need a recommendation for a good eyeliner...pencil, preferably....that won't smudge. By the end of the day, half of my liner has fallen under my eye and is all smudgy.

Hey, I found the Nioxin right in my local supermarket this morning!  I was shocked as I thought it was something you'd only find online or at a specialty retailer.  I didn't buy it, though, as I don't think my hair is thin, just wish it would grow about an inch a month! LOL

Yes, Beth, let us know how you're doing today.  Ah, vanity, thy name is woman.  Don't I know it.

Marin, do you use eyeliner on your lower lids?  Is that why you're getting smudging under the eye?  I don't even use mascara anymore on my lower lashes because of the smudging.

To tell the truth, I've been using Revlon wet and dry eyeliner pencil in Chocolate Bar since I got one in my LGFB package.

http://www.buymebeauty.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=440  I do think you can find it cheaper than this.  Really cheap anyway at twice the price.  eBay seems to list it a lot.  It also sharpens easily and doesn't seem to break off like other pencils I've used.

Marin, I just bought some of that Olay foaming cleanser you recommended.  Unscented, thank goodness.  I cannot stand the fragrance in some of their other products.  This seems  quite nice.

Are those Crest white strips safe and effective?

My dentist says they're ok, BUT--you may not get lightening between teeth since the "tape" is hard to place there.

That's the difference between the strips and the gel stuff.  The gel gets evenly placed and works.

BethNY, you crack me up.  Your just so funny sometimes.

I don't know about you girls, but ever since chemo, my teeth are darker and seems stained.  I swear my teeth were never this dark before.

Also, you know, I never got my eyebrows back all the way.  I have half an eyebrow on each side and it pisses me off.  I have to draw them in now and I just hate that look.  Reminds me of chemo and when I had nothing and had to draw them in.

I can never seem to find any eyebrow stuff that matches my nautural color.  Why, I have no idea.

Oh, and one more thing to complain about.  My hair is so freaking frizzy and dry right now and nothing, I mean nothing, is working!!!!

Thanks for listening oh and I say, Mac Zoom Lash RULES!  One coat and it seems like you put on 4 coats.  Love it.

    Be well all.

Well I just bought more Olay cleanser again today and this time made sure it didn't have any parabens in it. Many of the cleansers do, including Eucerin and Cetaphil, the "mild" brands. I bought 2 bottles because I use one in the shower too (for my face that is).

And speaking of Nioxin, I checked my bottle tonight and it does list several of the parabens, but they are last on a list of about 30 ingredients, so hopefully the amount is negligible. It just aggravates me though to support companies that use parabens, knowing that these chemicals have been linked to BC.

And Lilie, I too never got my brows fully back (just half) and after many instances of finding my eyebrows imprinted on my hand or gone altogether after step class, I finally had them tattooed on and am so happy to not have to think about them anymore. Expensive, but worth it!

Here are two somewhat disparate articles regarding the degree of danger posed by parabens in personal care products, one pointing to findings of paraabens in actual breast cancer tissue and claiming a link, the other (FDA of course) downplaying the link and claiming there is no proof of cause-and-effect. I chose to avoid parbens whenever possible, but try not to be fanatical about the issue. IMO, our environment is chock full of crap, so I can't get paranoid about one factor alone.

I'm so excited about finding a little brush/comb combo that works for blow-drying my still short and curly hair.  It's a folding gizmo by Goody and costs only about $3.00 or $4.00, in the grocery store.  One end is comb, the other is a two-row brush, just perfect for grabbing that short hair and pulling it a bit to straighten.  Everything else I've tried is either too round and/or big in diameter.  This was "just right."

A also forgot to mention that I've been using a hair gel called Lagoom by Goldwell.  It holds like crazy and although it does dry stiff if you use a lot for control, you can brush or comb it soft in a flash.

My stomach not to be ignored, I just had a lovely mug of something probably not so good for me.  Swiss Miss Dark Chocolate Sensation instant hot chocolate.  I used both hot water but cooled it off with some skim milk because I am a baby and cannot drink hot stuff.  Oooooh, it was so good.

Marin, I think we will have to come up with a code name for chock full of crap.  How about C-FOC?  As in our world is so full of C-FOC that a little more won't kill you.......

I'm totally feeling better.  And my teeth are definitely whiter.  I still wouldn't recommend britesmile to any of my friends.

Drippy eyeliner Marin???  well, what are you doing before the eyeliner?

I don't use foundation b/c its too heavy and my skin is fine, BUT I always start with the color corrector eye stick #4 from neutrogena.

I apply it with a MAC brush that has special bristles i think with silicone made for creamy eye stuff.

So I apply the stick to my upper lid, and to the bags under the eyes, especially in the corners. Then, using my pressed powder- I don't like loose powder, I for my ENTIRE life have used Maybelline shine free powder, and it never makes my skin nutty (I had TERRIBLE acne as a kid, and my skin is super sensitive, so I think about everything that touches my face).

I follow the stick with my pressed powder, which has now created an amazing eye base, so all day long, pencils, powders, cream based eyes, whatever-- will stay put and not smudge or drip.

If your pencils are still dripping mid day, you need a pencil thats not a crayon base-- you need a more pencil eye pencil-- the drawback, is that they are harder to apply.  The crayon pencils glide very easy. I love MAC eyepencil-- and I wear smudgy black shades so I know how hard it is to keep them from dripping--- after applying lower liner, I will take a MAC highlighter brush and take a light shadow and go right under the liner, so it won't smudge.  Also, I blend my liner after applying it.

I really do swear by all the products I use: here's some of them:

    purpose face wash

oli of olay complete all day moisture for sensitive skin

    neutrogena #4 color corrector stick

    maybelline shine free pressed powder

physicians formula bronzer- i combine two of them depending on the glow I want to acheive

MAC eye shadows-- I have three different pallettes that were created for me, and I've had lessons with the MAC girls, and I use all MAC brushes, which I swear make all the difference, b/c I wasn't good at applying makeup, until my lesson with these girls-- and the brushes make it all so simple.

mascara-- if you don't like a heavy mascara look stick with the traditional pink and green maybelline.

For me, I need Loreal double extend in charcoal

for an insane dramatic makeup night, yves saint Laurent $18 its called night at the opera or something crazy like that.

    but i love my loreal....

I have to go to work-- but when I come back I'll talk all about how I apply mascara-- guarrenteed to give you better lashes-- I love when i have a new friend that i get to show my tricks to, and it just makes their face light up---

its so nice to find new tips to make your face look better.

have I mentioned I love this thread?

Wow, Beth, I'd like to come to NY for a makeover from you! I've worked so hard to get good at applying makeup, especially eye makeup, but I'm thinking that I 1.) need to consider a base, as you suggest, and 2.) need to keep trying brands of eyeliner and shadow until I find just the right thing for my coloring, etc. I own so much frealin' makeup, I'm considering trashing most of it and just starting over from scratch. First purchase will be some MAC stuff. I do think that I've got my face right though...I use Clinique foundation in a color that is totally perfect for my skin. It gives complete coverage, but feels light. Then I use a Revlon liquid blush called Pinch Me in "Cheeky Cherry." I apply that in a small triangle along my cheekbone, right below the outer part of my eye and blend it really well with a wet foam sponge. Finally, after all of the rest on the makeup is on and my face is dried & set, I use a Sephora brush to dust on a dash of Bare Minerals blush, Beauty.

So I'm waiting on the mascara tips!

PS - Tina...C-FOC sounds naughty...I like it! Laughing Not only is our environment C-FOC, but I know alotta guys I could describe the same way!!!! Wink
