    Hello, me again, seems it is never ending.

    After a stereotactic core biopsy my pathology report read "atypical ductal hyperplasia"...refer to notes...the sample is fragmented and consistent with atypical ductal hyperplasia and suspicious for low grade dcis.

    I am having the excision this Wednesday.

    Just wondering...how much do they remove?  I really want "all" of this area removed with wide margins...

    Has anyone else gone thru this???

    Koshka, I have gone through the wide excision of ADH 2 times, once in each breast. They will probably insert a wire to guide the surgeon to the area of ADH. He will remove an area around the ADH but since the ADH is microscopic, they will not know if they have removed enough until they get the 'lump' under the microscope. Both times the surgeon said that they removed the area with a good margin. After my first dx of ADH, I was put on a 6 month mammo schedule to keep check on any thing that might come up.

    Not to scare you but, because I was on the 6 month mammo schedule, I was dx with DCIS at the very earliest stage that is very treatable.

    I just want to  make certain that they are taking out a good chunk and not just a biopsy.

    And yes,,, I am aware of the close watch and the prospect of DCIS.  Here is hoping that they don't find anything else this time.

    they will call it either an excisional biopsy or lumpectomy. Either term is appropriate for the procedure. The first lumpectomy I had was on the front area of my left breast and it left me a cup size different from left to right. the second was on the side of the right but I could not see any divot where the tissue was removed. They put me in a surgical support bra after each surgery and I wore them for 24-48 hours after the surgery but then wore a front hook sports bra after that for several weeks to help support the area while it healed.

    Thanks for the info.

    I am a 34A so a small lump removed can almost be the whole boob...lol (at least i am laughing right now).

    Hmmm...the bra thing is of concern as I really don't have a tight fitting one.....lol

    I am having the wire, and then the surgery.  The receptionist told me surgery is under local...I am ok with that....

    Did you have mast with the DCIS?

    hey koshka, blessings and prayers your way dear.  I hade the wide excision biopsy which turn out to be a lumpectomy because surgeon thought she saw healthy tissue and hoped to take enough but margins were not clear.  I wasn't diagnosed with dcis for a long time after already having it, so hopefully your outcome will be good.  As far as size, they took my lumpectomy tissue from lower middle breast and I actually looked kinda square, ok, then we did the mastectomy.  Hopefully your procedure will be complete with this bx.  love ya, Sherry

    After the 2nd dx of ADH, Aug 2006, my surgeon suggested I consider preventive bilat mast. When I went for my 6 month mammo in april, there were calcifications in the right side again. I went to the surgeon prior to the biopsy saying I wanted them both off. He said we had to do the stero biopsy before he would make any radical decision. It showed DCIS and I had bilat with expander recon surgery June 1, 2007. I am almost finished with my recon and since I did bilat and had no node involvment, I am not doing rads or chemo.

    Some say that the route that I took is radical but it is a personal decision and I was tired of seemingly endless biopsies.

     I am also small ( 34 nearly A). Mine was just a excisional for calcifications. The support bra was not an issue for me at all- it may be the size thing.I didn't need any special bra. They told me the doctor tends to wrap you tightly- she didn't. I can only guess that they aren't worry about anything moving too much My breast was definitely smaller- not something I expected from a biopsy. It beats the alterative though.

    kosh--the surgeon will remove as much as he feels he needs to in order to obtain clear margins. Sometimes they get clear margins on the first try, sometimes it takes a reexcision.  I woke up in recovery wrapped in a snug chest binder (no special bra needed) which I was allowed to remove after 2 days and shower with the steri strips.  I took it easy for a few days and was back to normal activities in less than a week, no lifting restrictions. I have the tiniest little dimple, only I can tell any difference, not even my husband. The scar has faded so much, the docs have to ask where I had the lumpectomy.  You will be OK!!!!!!

    Hello there,

    I survived the wire excisision.  It was not too bad. 

    However, my boob is still bandaged so I haven't seen the scar yet.

    Now just wait for the results.  My surgeon is certain that they lab won't make people wait over Christmas.

    well...dcis low grade.

    I am meeting with the surgeon tomorrow as I insisted they tell me over the phone.....

    the waiting is over, and i am ok...i have been prepared and educated and supported by you ladies...

    you are awesome,,,and could not have survived this without you...

    I'm sorry to hear the DCIS diagnosis.  I was hoping that it would be just ADH.  I went into my excisional biopsy with ADH too, and came out with DCIS (and a microinvasion of IDC).  So I know what you are going through.

    Leanna, Also sorry to hear that you joined the 'club nobody wants to join' but I also had low grade DCIS. Good luck on making the personal decisions that have to be made.

    it turns out i have 4mm of idc as well.

    even  more scared and confused now.

    i am 39, don't know if i should do bilateral.

    so sad and scared and depressed over christmas.

    can't beleive this.

    I just had the excision done on Monday. I go back to the surgeon next Tuesday. I have the same question. I had a lot of questions, wish I didn’t feel rushed during the very few times I’ve seen him. I will write my questions down this time. I just didn’t expect I would have anything like this
