Whats an Echo Guide for Biop?
Comments

Hello again. I am having my biospy this next Monday. I hope it all comes back benign! I have a question about the type of biopsy I will be getting. The ultrasound results said they recommended a biopsy under ultrasound guidence. But today I get the actual authorization for the biopsy and it said
Procedure: ECHO GUIDE FOR BIOP. Is this a different type or just worded differnt but mean the same? Just wanting to know what to expect as far as how long and how much it will hurt.

hi luvz
I believe it will be the same the ultrasound guided. I have had several of those, no it does not hurt. But honestly everyone's pain tolerance is different and you could expirence a different reaction. They do numb your breast first and it may take a few "shots", to get all the samples they need. Squeeze your hands it may help. The needle they use can sound like a pop as they get the samples, but you really don't feel much. The most important thing is the pathology. Do keep the steri stips clean and watch out for infection. I just am recovering from a large infection that spread to my kidneys from my wide excesion procedure in November. It was not fun!!

what are Steri stips? And how big of a excesion will they give me for this?

Luvz, no incision. You'll have spots where the needle goes in, but no stitches required. I have a couple the size of freckles from mine.
Steri strips are used instead of stitches - they're a strong tape that will go over where they insert the needle. There may be a bit of bleeding. Some ice applied afterwards will help. They'll tell you what kind of painkiller is ok to use.
The tape stays on for a couple of days & should fall off in the shower.
The u/s biopsy wasn't bad. My husband was able to be there with me & we were able to see what turned out to be a benign mass on the screen as well as ask questions of the radiologist.
Best wishes and take care.

echo guided biop, I believe this is just "lingo"
echogram = sonogram = ultrasound
It is an ultrasound guided biopsy.
I had mine done in August. It didn't take very long - perhaps 15-20 minutes. First they injected quite a lot of local anaesthetic. They then took about 4 samples of the lump (through the same needle "hole" - core biopsy). The last of the 4 samples hurt a bit but the pain was not severe and didn't last. I think it hurt my feelings more than anything, because this just made my fears seem more real.
We are with you. Best of luck!

Had the biopsy today and it was faster than I even expected!! I didnt feel the shot nor anything else. They took a sample from the two in my right breast and one from my left. He told me before he even biopsied the right breast that it was benign. Afterwards he said they were cysts. Than the left breast he said was a comlex cyst..what exactly is a complex cyst? Anyways he said I will be fine. I know that cant be 100% but he was so confident so I am going to run with this news. What do you think?
