I believe the reason for taking calcium and vitamin D is to protect the bones. One of the side effects of these anti horomone drugs i.e. Famara is bone depletion. So to protect your bones do take the recommended dose of both. I buy mine at Costco. I also cheat and buy the calcium carmels. If it tates like dessert I will take it. We Canadians don't get enough sunshine in the winter months so take your 'D'. Hope this helps

I've gotten my Calcium and Vit D from both Superstore and Wal-mart. They are a combined vitamin. One pill has 650 mg elemental calcium and 400 UI Vitamin D. I try to take 3 a day but sometimes only manage to remember to take two. The one's I have now are from superstore brand Jamieson brand. I like that I only have to take one pill to get both my calcium and D.

Mine is Calcium Citrate 500 mg + D 400, brand name is Ci-Cal. I'm only on two pills a day, next appointment will ask my onc if I should take 3 a day, seems is what most are doing here, my last prescription was made 6 months ago wonder why I was prescribe less.

Welga, do you drink milk and eat yogurt and cheese? You would be getting extra calcium that way.

I am on Femara little over 3 years now. I take Caltrate+D twice a day.
600mg calcium +400 UI vitamin D x2= 1200 mg calcium and 800 UI vitamin D daily.
I eat yogurt a lot. I hate milk. I love cheese but i limit it.
How is your Bone Density test?. Mine shows that even with everything its not getting any better.
My DR was thinking Boniva but he decided to wait since i don't have Osteoporosis yet.

Good point, I used to eat lots of yogurt but I have heartburns and it seems to be worst with it.
A little milk, maybe 2 quarts a week and very little cheese (constipation....) so I don't think I'm getting enough calcium. I have a hard time drinking milk as much as I use too. I'll have to change this. Thanks for your suggestion, somtimes we forget the elementary!

Since starting Femara, I've got bone loss. From good results went to borderline ostopenia. I cannot imagine taking Bovina or others as they would worsen my burning stomach. Will get another scan in october and am hoping for the best, cannot imagine getting off Femara either, wich we would not have to make such choices....
