World Aids Day
I think of how far we've come and how far we still have to go. I think the stigma has lessened a lot over the past decade. There's still a blame in the USA for those with the disease when I hear about people who are "innocent victims" of the disease as if there are others who deserve it. To me it's the same as when people say smokers with lung cancer deserve it.
I just saw that the sundance channel and Logo are having special AIDs programming, old movies (from the 80s and 90s) and documentaries.

Amy,
My daughter is in GSA in her High School and they had a big performance for World AIDS day. They are redoing it tonight for the parents. I am so proud of the School district and my daughter , AWARENESS is key. Not to long ago people with cancer were treated the same as people with AIDS/HIV are today .There is so much more that needs to be done to educate people ,young and old, about the virus . Anyone and everyone can become infected with the HIV virus no one is immune and no one deserves to be sick. Thank you for bringing the day to everyones attention . I am sorry I am replying so late. Is GSA gay straight alliance? Did you say in another post that she goes to a catholic school and they have this? I'm pleasantly surprised. One of my friends came out when he had two young daughters about a decade ago. His wife insists the kids go to catholic school and they have to be can't have a hard time with some of the teachings. The staff doesn't sugar coat their beliefs about homosexuality being a "sin", but they don't single out the kids to make their point either.

Hey Amy,
No my son goes to Christian School, not Catholic(he is 6). My daughter goes to Public School(she is 17). The Public High School by me is great ,my son will go there also. I wish there was a religious school so progressive to have a GSA . Yes, that is the Gay Straight Alliance. My own church , if we were so blessed to have a school , would have a GSA(I would love to think). I am a deacon,my mom is the president of the missionary , my sister is the church minister of music and we will all be enjoying the festivities tonight and we all support my daughters and nephews choice to be a part of GSA . I'll tell you about it tomorrow. Have a great day. Benita

Hey Amy,
Happy New Year, Sorry 1 day took over 1 month have been having issues. The program was fantastic. The kids were amazing and they are raising money for CHRISTA HOUSE. It is a place where homeless people with AIDS and Cancer can go and live their last days with dignity and people around them who care. They are also involved with Breast milk project , that sends healthy breast milk to HIV/AIDS babies in Africa. The kids know more than we do. I really enjoyed it and learned much. I hope all is well with you.
