I was going to stay out of it too but as an atheist; whenever tells me "Merry X-mas" I thank them and tell them "Merry Christmas in return.  I don't see anyone giving me any best wishes as shoving Christianity down my throat.   I practiced with Jewish doctors at my last office and we still had Christmas parties and gift exchanges.

I mean even the word "holiday" means holy day.  So for me as an atheist  changing the phrase to "Happy Holidays" would still be incorrect.  I can if you use the European meaning, of "going off on a holiday" then maybe.  I have to laugh at myself over how seriously I'm taking this!

I really just wanted to tell Shirley and Benita to have a Merry Christmas and not to worry about offending all of we non-believers and to tell Luann that her son really rocks!

Shirley, you have misinterpretted what I said to mean I am offended by the word xmas. I am not. I am offended when christians only recognize this season as their season and not a season for everyone. I celebrate the winter season. I give hannukah presents to jewish friends and family, xmas gifts to christian friends and family (yep, i have family who are chistrian) and presents to my atheist and agnostic friends and family who don't celebrate specific holidays. I don't like to see people marginalized or left out. I think too often the majority, whether that be religion, race, political party, social clique etc., overlook the needs and feelings of the majority. I was volunteering at a shelter about 15 years ago and we took the kids to see a black santa, since most of them were black. It was the first time any of them had seen one (including most of the volunteers) and they loved seeing a santa who looked like them.

Ok ladies, enough of the bickering!  I really posted to share my photos, shock and surprise!  There is enough problems in this world without some needless bickering over a gift from a son to his mother!  We have so many struggles in our lives do you really need to destroy my pleasure at my sons gift to me.  I am really sorry I shared!
