Has anyone been newly diagnosed with a recurrence?  What are your treatment choices now?  How was your recurrence discovered?

Hi Sadie, I was diagnosed for the second time with a new primary on the other side Feb. 07.  I had a double mast. and 6 treatments of Taxotere.  This new primary was discovered on a mammogram.

First time dx in 12/02, had lumpectomy, AC&T, rads so my new primary "arrived" 4 1/2 yrs later.

Also I am BRCA 1 positive,

It was very interesting to me to read all your comments. As far as I know I was triple negative in 2003 and ever since then I am taking Aromasin. Do any of you take an AI or any other drug?

My mom was originally dx 5/01 with triple negative, she had lumpectomy and radiation.  She took tamoxifen for about 4 years and then was switched to aromasin.  She went for her follow up this past april and everything was ok.  She was switched to femara?  She has now been dx with mets to bone, liver and lung.  Now she is taking the aromasin again and having chemo (abraxane, gemzar), and zometa.  Any comments on her plan of care???  I thought the oral meds were only helpful for er/pr+ cancers???  My moms reoccurance was discovered when she went in for a cough she couldn't get rid of.

    Hi Everyone,

Galnok-Thank you for sharing your story. I wished you didn't have to have your second journey. How are you doing now? Sounds like you are finished with your current treatment. What do your doctors recommend for follow up?

ClaraIsabel- I haven't taken any medications for cancer prevention after I finished my treatment; which included surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Kris- I hear you are on this journey with your mother. How lucky she is to have you. How is she doing with this new treatment? Please keep us posted.

Idash-Congratulations on being NED! Do you have follow up treatment that you have to do? How often do you go in for rechecks and screenings?     WinkCute pupppy!

    Thank you all,

    Sadie

Hi Sadie, yes I finished my Taxotere in September and am doing pretty good, a little neuropathy and low energy but I know things will improve with time.  I will have my first 3 month check-up in January.

I've had triple neg bc twice and have never been offered a prevention medicine after chemo/rads either.  I didn't think

they were given to Triple Negs but I sure wish they would come

up with a targeted treatment for us, soon I hope!

they dont believe in doing scans unless you have symptoms for more than 2 weeks or more so i dont do any scans    first wasnt happy about that but now i am ok with it

Clara...I'm a little confused, you indicated you were trip neg. , but then said you have been on Aromasin , which  as far as I knew was given for hormone + bc's usually after a course of Taxotere(altho now sometimes instead of, but still for + 's not - bc's). Is your Dr. trying something different, or are u sure you're neg?
