Hi Everyone,

When I was first considering looking outside the UK for a surgeon to correct my awful diep reconstruction done in the UK in March, these boards were an excellent source of info.  Having had my revision to the L diep done at NOLA in Oct, with R breast reduction & uplift - together with abdo scar revision & lipo to restore a more feminine shape.... I am thrilled with the results.  I still need some further remedial work, but already I look SO much better. Dr DellaCroce was my surgeon.

It just got me wondering who of you out there (and I know there are many) also had your surgery at NOLA.

Would you all be interested in adding to this thread your names, dates of surgery, procedure etc.  It may help others, especially newcomers in their decision process, who may want to pm for further info on your experiences.

Warmest wishes to all.........................    Lorna xx

Hi Lorna, I was a NOLA patient, but I was with the Dr. Allen crew. Almost the same thing I think! Glad everything is going well for you. BTW, I was very happy with the care I recieved.

Lorna, I am a happy completed NOLA patient.  Finished stage 3 bilateral DIEP last December after going through a  previous year back home of reconstruction mishaps, Nola's group reinvented my breasts on my chest.  I consider the staff angels and even the office has this surreal heavenly ambience.  My trip getting there was hampered by an insurance appeal that took about a year.

Stage 1 bilateral DIEP on Oct. 30, 2007

with Dr. Dellacroce and Dr. Trahan.

I never met Dr. Trahan and only know he assisted Dr. Dellacroce because he was listed in the operative report.

So far, everything has been going great and I could not be happier.

The whole experience was first rate, the attention to detail, the caring office staff, the kindness and attentiveness of the nurses at Omega Hospital, the car service, and of course the most important part is the skill and artistry of Dr. Dellacroce.

Me, too... I had bilateral SGAP reconstruction (delayed) with Drs. DellaCroce and Sullivan in Feb. of this year.  I have finished Stage 3 in October.  I am from Canada and there was no reconstruction available to me here other than implants and I didn't want implants (didn't want to have more surgeries to replace them when I was older).  Unfortunately, I had to pay for the whole procedure as insurance here will not cover out of country procedures.  It was very expensive, but sooooooooooo worth it.   These doctors and their staff have totally spoiled me for ever being satisfied with medical care in the future.  The whole experience was the best I have ever had.... I felt like I was on a vacation at a spa (except for the surgery, of course) with the limo rides and the extra care they gave.  They even sent me a birthday card!!!!!   I can't say enough about the experience.  I am almost sad that it is over!!!  The extra things that Dr. D. did (lipo on my legs and body) have made the world of difference to how I feel about myself.

So.... I am so thankful to have found them and become a member of the NOLA club.

    Hugs,  Colleen

    Sara,

Just curious, did you have to ask for your operative report? That's the second time I've seen an operative report mentioned. I've kept copies of all of my test reports since my dx, but I never gave any thought to the records from any of my surgeries.

    Alaina,

Yes, I asked for a copy. It was really just a basic standardized report of a bilateral DIEP flap surgery. Other than my name and surgery date on each page, the only personalized entry was the weight of the 2 flaps.

I'm in the club.  I had bilat masts with immediate diep recon in NOLA (Dr D) in Sept-06.  I had my stage 2 done 2 weeks ago on Nov 19th.  Things are looking great!

Thankfully, I am a member too!  I had my stage II DIEP surgery with Dr. DellaCroce on 11/9, plus he fixed up complications I was having from stage I done elsewhere.  My abdomen had to be completely reopened and he removed a bunch of scar tissue that resulted from a seroma that formed after my first surgery.  He basically redid my entire first stage except for grafting the flaps, and I am so glad that I heard about him here and on the FORCE (www.facingourrisk.org) bulletin board.  Dr. D wanted to completely remove the skin paddles created in my first surgery and didn't want to overdo the stretching of my skin, so I will have an extra stage, but I wanted that rather than a compromise of the esthetic result at completion.

I'm going back in February to complete the miraculous revision work, and then will hopefully get tattooed in May.  I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Trahan the day after my surgery.  He told me that my abdominal incision looked like a paper cut, and now that the glue has come off, it really does.  It has healed up so much better and faster than it did the first time.   I was leery about traveling so far for surgery, but now would not hesitate to recommend NOLA for reconstruction.  The website for the center is www.breastcenter.com.   I had my surgery at Oschner Baptist, and cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful staff there.

Lorna had her surgery with Dr. D as I was counting down the days until my own journey there, and her posts were very encouraging to me.  She helped me trust that I'd made the right choice!!

Count me in.  I had unilateral mastectomy with immediate diep in july 2005.  I remember lying in that hospital bed thinking, hurricane season is really a horrible time to have major surgery.  As if I had any choice.  That was the year of katrina and rita and all the other storms that burned through the whole alphabet and part of the greek alphabet.

The only bad thing about going to nola for surgery was the way my local doctors treated me as if I had suddenly sprouted an extra dozen heads.  I am forever grateful for finding out about drs sullivan and della croce right here in this forum.  I received encourage here, and the stark realization that my local surgeon was not giving me a list of all my options, just the very short list of what was available locally.

    Lorna, I am so glad you were able to travel and get the surgery you deserve.  I was hopeful the good docs in nola could improve your situation, and I am so glad that came to fruition.  {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}

    Dear Jackie.

Glad you found your way to these message boards - I have sent you a private message. Log onto your home page to read it...

I could fill a book on what I didn't "like" about the UK reconstruction!!

NOLA - is an abbreviation for The center for Restorative Breast Surgery. It is based in New Orleans, Louisianna.

Don't forget to spell centre the American way - "center" !!!

    Hope to hear from you.....

    Love,    Lorna

    Hi Lorna,

I'm very happy to be a member of the NOLA Club!  I had delayed bilateral GAP reconstruction with Drs. D & S in March 2005. Dr. DellaCroce is my primary surgeon, and he and Dr. Sullivan transformed my deformed and painful implant reconstruction into beautiful painfree breasts. They are such talented and gifted surgeons and I am so blessed to have found them.  Dr. D and everyone at the Center will always hold a special place in my heart. -- Amy

Lorna, will you be sending my membership card soon?  I loved New Orleans and feel strongly for the people there who've suffered so much--we toured the devastation with someone who lost his home and business.  After I returned home, I designed some rhinestone tank tops and t-shirts which will be added to my websites soon, with proceeds going to NOLA recovery.

I am also a member. I am so happy with my results, were it not for the scars (they will fade) you would never know they weren't original.

I had diep, 1st stage in February 07, 2nd stage in May, having some tweaking done December 14th, hoping to get my tattoo's then too, but Celeste said she doesn't think so. Will see what Dr Dellacroce has to say. I may have to go back another time.

There is no way to express the way you are treated there, one must experience it. It was awesome!

No, I'm not a NOLA member yet but may be soon. I say 'may' because I haven't decided between NOLA and South Carolina yet.

I can't find my way around this new website. The 'search' box isn't helping me at all!

Congrats to all who have been there and back!

Put me on the roster too.  Dr. Sullivan is my primary doc.  I had stage 1 unilateral DIEP September 2007 after chemo, mastectomy, and radiation.  Currently I'm recovering from stage 2 done last week.

The good doctors provide the surgical talent and vision for the Center, but it is the ladies of the Centre that carry out that vision with excellence and class.  Hats off to Liz, Celeste, Karen, and Katie.

    Hi All,

As most of you know I just got back from NOLA 2 1/2 weeks ago.  Dr. Dellacroce did an awesome job fixing a Tram gone bad and Dr. Stolier (nice sweet man) did an awesome job with the tissue and nipple sparing mastectomy on the other side.  Now that the swelling has gone down I have a large A on the right and a B on the left.  I have total confidence that after Stage 2 end of Sept revisions will be made that will be very satisfactory.

I was taken care of at Oschner Baptist and they did a great job.  Very blessed to be part of the NOLA club.

I am new here. I am scheduled for a LD flap with tissue expander on July 22nd after a 4 year delay. I had a unilateral left breast mastectomy with chemo and radiaton in 2004. What is NOLA ?

NOLA is short for New Orleans, Louisiana

NOLA also refers to the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery in New Orleans founded by Drs. Sullivan and DellaCroce.

I am a blessed member of the NOLA club with Dr. Dellacroce doing my bilateral DIEP in November 2007, my two cousins had Dr. Sullivan and loved him as well. They are truly wonderful human beings and have spoiled me for all other doctors. I expect them all to behave as these two gentleman do and I have found that is not the case. I also think they have a great staff. Hope to go back this fall for a tattoo redo.

Can't say enough good things about the Center and wish everyone could have the experience of what is now the "gold standard" for me.

Had bi-lateral mx, with immediated DIEP reconstruction. In the process of healing right now. So far, so good! I do worry about the swelling, but from what I am told, it eventually goes away. I will have to be patient!

I am very very blessed to have been able to go to NOLA.
