Early Xmas Gift

I hope this doesn't offend anyone that doesn't celebrate xmas, but my son gave me a very heartfelt xmas gift early this year. I have been begging him for years to get a decent haircut, he loves the shaggy look. Well two nights ago he had my other kids hold up the camera to show me his photo and then he walked around the corner and handed me a bag of hair! OMG the difference blew me away, here are the before and afters!

LuAnn -- What a sweetheart your son is! He looks very handsome and wonderful in both pictures, but as a Mom, I know you must have been grinning from ear to ear! Happy Holidays!
-
LuAnn,
Ahh.. love springs eternal from a son to a Mom.
What is it about hair and the male sex anyways? For eons it's been a theme.
Remember, Repunzel, Repunzel let down your hair?
Hair length seems relate to love in their mind, so this truly was a big, loving gesture he made.
Thanks for sharing your handsome, kind son with us.
Good job, Mom!
Tender -
That is so cool! I love the change but I like the long hair too! Mother's and son's!
-
LuAnn, Merry Christmas!!What a lovely son you have!!And what a really wonderful present!

He looks very cool, and he loves his mom!!!

Aww, probably better than money could buy! I also appreciate your sensitivity that not everyone celebrates xmas. It means a lot.
-
Luann,
I told my husband about your early Christmas gift from your son. My oldest has really gotten shaggy lately. It doesn't bother me too much. If growing his hair long is how he rebels, I'm not going to argue! LOL He's a good kid. I WOULD like to be able to see his gorgeous eyes again, though--and he knows it! He has so much hair, it would probably be 3 or 4 bags of hair if he cut it! I think I just might tell him what your son did and see what happens!
What a cutie-patootie your son is--before AND after! I'm sure you are a proud mama!

LuAnn, first of all I was not at all offended BECAUSE I celebrate Christmas also. I tell you what I am offended by.....people calling Christmas trees HOLIDAY trees. Now, that's stupid. I'm tired of people trying to be PC. Okay, done ranting.
You're son's hair is beautiful, long or short. However, I can appreciate from a mom's point of view wanting the hair cut. My DH's nephew cut his (and he's 40 and it's been long ever since I can remember) cut his hair. I was sooooooo, sooooooo surprised. He made a bet with his son and lost thus, cut his hair. He look so good!
BTW, we gave my DD her Christmas present early while they were here at T'giving (hope that holiday doesn't offend anyone and everyone....sorry for the rant!). She and her DH will share it....a digital camcorder. She's got those little grandchildren (and her children..LOL) and really wanted to upgrade. So, it's their b'day and Christmas (no apologies here..sorry for the rant) present.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Shirley
-
Hopefully he'll decide it's much easier to take care of!
Is a warm hat on his gift list now?
-
Rose, I don't think a warm hat is on his list. He doesn't get cold easily, in fact he told me he wants to go somewhere to the north for college because our weather is not cold enough for him. My whole family is like that, we don't usually wear a coat in the winter. Call us strange
I am sensitive to the fact that everyone has different beliefs on what they celebrate and don't, that is why I didn't want to offend anyone. With the wide group of people we have here I just wanted to be considerate of those that don't celebrate.
I actually didn't mind his long hair, it was fun picking on him, now I will have to find a new thing to tease him about..... I have to say though I was just so touched by his thoughts and efforts.
-
Shirley...YOU ROCK! And Merry Christmas back atcha'!
-
I love kids. That was just so sweet.
You raised a good one. He obviously loves his mom! And he's good looking too!Have a blessed Christmas season,
Judy
-
Awesome!! my little 7 year old stinkers want long hair!!
-
Had to laugh, have you seen the new commercial for , I think, Citibank credit cards? Boy, dressed sloppy and bad long hair, looks at crystal turtle for Mom, but shows up for the holidays in a suit and tie---Mom is thrilled! Great Christmas present for Mom.
-
Well, wonders never cease. My own son whose hair has been longer than mine (and that's saying something as I haven't had chemo!) had his hair cut today! I can SEE his gorgeous eyes and face! It is still kind of "beatles" shaggy, but looks sooooooo much better! His hair hasn't been this short in at least 5 years.
Ho Ho Ho
-
I did see that commercial and it cracked me up! Dianne maybe there is something in the air with the hair cuts????? One can only hope
-
Shirley, I've known people who do hannuka trees. I prefer to say happy holidays to be inclusive of peoples different celebrations over end of december- hannuka, kwansa, winter solstice, xmas or simply the season. You may see that as PC, I see it as being inclusive.
-
Luann, I love the attitude on your son's face with his new hair cut!!!!! Aren't sons great!!
-
Thank you, Paulette. I know I'm possible in the minority.
LuAnn, I didn't mean to offend you by putting in my two cents worth.
Amy, WHATEVER did we do BEFORE all this crap started about not using the word "Christmas." Our country has been celebrating Christmas for a very long time. Also Hannuka, Kwansa and any other holiday there is e.g. Easter, Passover, ect. I DO NOT believe it's the Jewish individuals who are offended by the word "Christmas." Believe it or not some Jewish families do the Christmas tree thing and even have presents under the tree left by Santa. My SIL used to be of the Jewish faith and her dad (mother left the children) did Christmas for them.
For many of us this time of the year is celebrating Christ's birth. It's a part of our history. It IS OUR culture. Too many people are buying into the PC thing and it makes me sick. Now, I realize in the work place one may be prohibited in saying the word "Christmas." There is nothing to be offended about.
I have no problem with other individuals saying Happy Hannuka or Happy Whatever Holdiay they are celebrating. But I'm getting a fed up with individuals and groups trying to take my right away. I will not apologize for using the word "Christmas!"
That Word should be INCLUDED for us who believe the reason we celebrate this season. Do you get offended when one says Happy Hannuka? I don't. There are too many other things in this world to be worried about and saying Merry Christmas is amongst the least of our worries. And it is Christmas Tree.
Okay, I'm done.

Shirley, the issue isn't being offended by the word christmas, the issue is having one particular set of beliefs shoved down the throats of those who don't have that set of beliefs. I don't believe being considerate or as you call it PC of other's beliefs or nonbeliefs is a bad thing. People who do not celebrate xmas shouldn't have their tax dollars used to pay for religious symbols in their towns for decorations when there are other secular symbols like snow flakes that can be used. Shoppers shouldn't have to be wished Merry Christmas when that is not their belief because christians have protested against saying, "Happy holidays." There is no one religious belief or culture that owns the holiday season- even though more people may celebrate xmas than not.
I just don't see how being sensitive to others' beliefs can ever be a bad thing. Just because it's a christmas tree to you doesn't mean it is to everyone. Just because you know one person who has a christmas tree doesn't mean it's a universal practice. I have no problem with the word xmas being included when all other beliefs are included. I have no problem with tax dollars being spent on xmas decorations if they are also spend on kwanza, hannuka, wiccan and other decorations as well.
Out of curiousity, have you had a lot of experience being wished a happy hannuka? How would you feel if your town, your malls, your stores only put up hannuka (or kwanza or wiccan or whatever) decorations, only wished people happy hannuka etc.
-
What a great Christmas Gift, LuAnne! How nice and thoughtful of your son to do something thoughtful ....
BTW LuAnn, I work at a place where we paint the windows, every year, I have my car back window with the words Merry Christmas. One time, I was at the gas station and this man said thanks for putting "Merry Christmas" on my window. I was confused. He said most people put Happy Holidays.... ahhhh, so now I always put that .... It's the reason for the season.
-
Amy, we really need to "debate" this elsewhere. However, you're not going to change my mind, and I'm sure as heck not going to change your's. I'm a bit old fashioned.
CHRISTMAS is, in fact, a federal holiday isn't it?
I don't care if other cultural themes are displayed. Do you really believe that we, in our nation, are intolerant of other religions? I do not believe the majority of the American people are intolerant. I know what I believe whether you agree with it or not. There is a minority who are NOT tolerant of Christians. This country was founded on FREEDOM OF RELIGION, NOT FREEDOM FROM RELIGION. Try living in some countries that are NOT tolerant...like the teacher in Sudan that was recently in the news.
We live in the greatest nation on this earth, IMHO. The problem is we're letting too many of OUR rights be stamped out. In our country one is free to, or not to, believe in a god. We are SUPPOSED to be tolerant of ALL religions e.g. Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism. I'm sure there's more I'm missing.
I received this in my email today from one of my nephews.
Perfect timing. This will be all I'll have to say about Christmas on this thread.
I think I'll put MERRY CHRISTMAS on the back my car window.
Twas the month before Christmas
When all through our land,
Not a Christian was praying
Nor taking a stand.
Why the Politically Correct Police had taken away,
The reason for Christmas - no one could say.
The children were told by their schools not to sing,
About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.
It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say
December 25th is just a ' Holiday '.
Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit
Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!
CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod
Something was changing, something quite odd!
Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa
In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.
As Targets were hanging their trees upside down
At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.
At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears
You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.
Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty
Are words that were used to intimidate me.
At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter
To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.
And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith
Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace.
The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded
The reason for the season, stopped before it started.
So as you celebrate 'Winter Break'
under your 'Dream Tree'
Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.
Choose your words carefully, choose what you say
Shout
MERRY CHRISTMAS,
not Happy Holiday! -
I didn't mean to start a major brew haw haw! I just was so shocked at my son cutting his hair of his own free will.
Shirley you didn't offend me, I have just worked with alot of different people in my years in social services and it was always youth. I was always conscious of their culture and beliefs because they were young and had enough issues without someone trying to help them saying things that offend them. I guess it was habit that I didn't want to offend because I know we have people from so many different walks of life on this board.
I really didn't mean to have that one part of my post to become a major issue. Anyway, back on track, I do love my handsome son!!!!
-
Sorry Luann. Shirley, nice of you to say we should discuss this somewhere else then continue to discuss it here. Of course some in america, including some in the government are intolerant of other beliefs and nonbeliefs. There is no state sponsored religion, including christianity. This country was founded by the free masons, not the christians. The idea that one religion would be shoved down people of other beliefs throats is not what was intended. At least one school district that I know of added a muslim holiday to it's calendar and so many christians complained they did away with all holiday breaks. Do you call that tolerant? Jewish people had to fight tooth and nail to get their high holy days included in school holidays. Why do you think schools no longer have xmas vacation, but winter break? To be tolerant of others' beliefs. You forgot to list wiccan and paganism in your list of other beliefs. I know wiccans (which is not about black magic, but praying to the goddesses of nature) who have had to move and hide their religious beliefs from their communities because they were accused of practicing witchcraft and their kids were threatened. Do you call that tolerant? Except for the last 2 sentences of your poem, I like it. Fortunately there are many tolerant people like Luann who actually care about not offending someone, rather than those who give christianity a bad name by acting as if it's all about them and their celebrations.
-
I'm done with this "debate" except to say read my signature.
I'm sorry I left out some religions. I said there may be many that I haven listed. I couldn't care less if one wants to practice wiccan and paganism. It's a free country, and according to the Bible we have a free will....free to do what we choose.
I'm not giving Christianity a bad name. I believe it's those who are intolerant of our beliefs. Ask any of your Jewish friends if they are offended by the word "Christmas." Or if when they are greeted by one saying "Merry Christmas" insults them. And I can tell you that I DO NOT push my beliefs down anyone's throat.
I'm sorry. I lied. I said more than I said I was going to say and I also continued to post on this subject on LuAnn's thread.
Shirley
-
LuAnn, I apologize. I will NOT continue this debate here.
You're son is very handsome. And what a wonderful gift to give you knowing it would make you happy.
Shirley
-
Shirley Amy,
Happy Hanukkah,Merry Christmas,Happy Kwanzaa,Blessed Ramadan,Happy Winter Solstice and whatever I forgot. That is why I send my son to Christian school. I celebrate Christmas so when I greet someone I know is Christian I proudly and faithfully say Merry Christmas , if I know the person is Jewish I say Happy Hannukah , and if I am not sure I say Happy Holidays . In my heart I know I am celebrating the birth of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ , whatever they are celebrating it is there right as an American citizen to do so as it is my right to celebrate Christmas . I think people are forgetting that just because you have your right to celebrate or not celebrate during our High Holy days doesn't take away our right to openly celebrate. There are many Menorah and Christmas trees living in harmony on Long Island during this season, I think we can too.
Happy ________To all,Benita
-
Okay, I've lied again. Here I am. However, I just had to repond, Benita. Like I've said, it's not the Jewish folks that get upset by us saying "Merry Christmas." Like you said, "There are many Menorah and Christmas trees living in harmony on Long Island during this season, I think we can too." In my opinion and in "debating" with folks, it's the non-believers that get upset.
Shirley

I' m Jewish! And proud! And I don't think we should be discussing religion. I am offended by the way this beautiful post has turned out. I love the "before" and "after" haircuts of LuAnn's son.
I can't believe he actually did it without any nagging from you, LuAnn!
Think about all the wonderful men and women who won't be with their families this holiday season. That's who we should be fighting for!Bless each one of them and keep them safe today and always!
