Hi...
I don't know about the rest of you, but I just LUV Project Runway. There's hardly any other show I watch regularly on TV, and I think if it weren't for the show, we probably would stop paying our cable bill.
Last night featured the second show and second elimination. This year the contestants appear to be very highly qualified, much more so than in past show. I honestly think the producers must have been embarrassed by the poor runway showing for the winning three last season.
This is supposed to be a "reality" show but IMHO there's a little drama tweaking going on behind the scenes...I think some of the "controversies" and arguments are staged. Last year, a dark horse won, and I wonder if the same thing is going to happen this year.
The challenge this week was to design a cheap outfit that would market for less than $40 that would appeal to the masses and look good on any woman.
IMHO, this is my personal favorite, a dress by designer who's supposed to be a lingerie expert...it's sexy, flattering and well cut, and could accomodate a lot of figure types..But this is what won...it looks cute & trendy but....
I am wondering...who ON EARTH would wear this besides a skinny little girl under 100 pounds and the age of 14 ? Maybe Robroy? And it doesn't do anything to flatter your figure. What middle aged woman is going to wear anything this short?!! I wouldn't and I don't think it's just a matter of having nice looking knees...I think I'd feel silly.
What do YOU think?
Mizsissy
PS..BTW, reruns are aired frequently throughout the week, so it's easy to catch up if you want to...just go to bravotv.com for a schedule.

i watch that show too and loved the red dress. with my postchemo weight numbers still off-the-chart fat...i might wear the winning dress as a shirt.
-
the designer who spit on the fabric scares me. have you ever seen anyone so out to lunch? the only one who comes close is that looney ramona jan from season one of hgtv's design star. utnay ob-jay.

Cool, cool, nice to see you Patrice!!!
Well, I've got a theory about her...I think her name is Elisa. If you look at her bio, she has incredible credits. She's had her designs featured in Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, and she was voted one of the best top ten new designers of the year by Vogue. Look at the way she drapes her dresses....they're georgeous.
Last time that creepy tatooed neck former drug addict from California turned out to be the winner and not just that, a great guy with a great turnaround story...it made the show. I think Elisa is this year's dark horse. I think all the crazy business about being earthy, getting fabric dirty in the grass, spitting, etc., is just something the producers thought up.
If you look at her when she's on the runway and one of two to be eliminated, there's no fear in her face...she's got secret immunity. Her first design was georgeous, except for that weird bunch of fabric dragging on the floor. Her second dress was georgeous too...except for the photos it is hidden by a drab grey poncho. I think they're deliberately holding off on showing how talented she is so she can make a very dramatic upset at the end.
I also think the producers were embarrassed by the final showing last season and they have made a big effort to get some real talent on the show. Notice how many of the contestants are former Parsons students, perhaps former students of Tim Gunn's....they didn't compete from the public, they were privately asked to be on the show.

BTW, the Spa & Shapeup group is still going strong, and we're just getting ready to dive into our Post-Turkey-Day diet. I'm planning on having a thinner body to go with my longer hair next spring. Puppy, who used to own a salon in WV, is giving us great tips on hair.

I, too, am a huge Project Runway fan! I hated that grey dress that won last week! I also wondered who would wear it! It is not universally flattering! I am very curious to see what it will look like when they carry it in the store with SJP's line.

Hi Donna,
Nice to see you here. Well, we've had another episode but I haven't seen it, because I see it was menswear, and there was some kind of problem where the losing designer didn't have enough fabric and made a suit without a shirt and was aufed, so I already feel like whatever happened was unfair.
I LUV this show, but sometimes I get so annoyed watching it I'd just rather not. I get so I really CARE about the designers. I may have a real problem this time, because I think they have a very nice talented group and I hate to see anyone out.
I'll tell you one thing though. Last season I really learned to HATE Laura, what a spiteful mean person she was...I was so glad when Jeffrey won.
I'm looking forward to the next challenge. You know, they also have challenges for viewers...I am thinking of entering, except that the 2 pound candybar they offer is NO incentive.

Hello Mizsissy!
I too am a major fan of Project Runway!! Love it. The design that won...it looks like a SJP design that they sell at Steve and Barry's..allot of her clothes there are not for the average woman..more for the younger hip generation.
The thing that worries me about the designer Elisa...she doesn't use a machine!! She sews by hand!
I too was glad Jeffrey won!! Laura..very nasty. Have you seen her on the Tim Gunn show...umm..can't think of the name..but she has been on there.
What do you mean they have challenges for viewers? Like what?
I am following this season. As for the drama...every reality TV show is staged to a degree. Don't you think??
Enjoy the season

Oh yeah..they're staged all right. If you look at my earlier post, I think Elisa is going to win--not because she's the goofy nut she's making herself out to be--but cause she already got great credentials...and she'll emerge slowly. The two favorites are obviously Rami and that Korean lady...there's a lot of magic to unfold here.
I'm an amateur designer myself, and I felt like I could have competed in the earlier seasons, but not this time...I really feel like the designers they have now are incredibly talented.
Looking forward to the next challenge.

I'm totally addicted to this show and have watched all the British seasons too.
Other devotees might not know that there's a Project Runway Canada that is currently running and is very interesting. You can watch it online at:
http://www.slice.ca/Shows/ProjectRunwayCanada/Default.aspx
Can anyone tell me, is there anywhere I can watch Season 4 of the US version online? They haven't broadcast this latest season here in Canada, I guess to give prominence to the Canadian version. -
Hi Darya..glad to have you here..you can go to www.bravotv.com and see what you can find...OR, get some CDs, I'll check into it. It seems very unfair that Canadians can't see PR....do any of your cable providers get you BravoTV? You CAN go to the website and read the blogs, see videos, and all the designs for each show. See the Rate the Runway link below.
I'd like to see the Canada version too...
Lisa, YES, there is an on-line challenge..a new one every week. Here's the link to it.
I haven't seen the menswear episode, but I have read Carmen's blog...she's the tall statusque black model-designer that got aufed last show. From what I've read, it sounds like she accepted defeat with so much poise that she actually made the judges look bad for auffing her....
Got to check out the rerun schedule.
BTW, I don't know who "won" the menswear episode, but from my understanding, the designers were very rushed, panicked, a lot of them had no experience with menswear, and they were judged on details...too bad. I read Nina's blog and she thought Sweet Pea's was a "mess" -- the worst one.
I actually thought this was a little sexy...my favorite...what do you think?
To see all the designs, go to Rate the Runway.

Anybody see the 4th Show...? I was very sad to see Chris go. Thought the judging was veerrry wierd....and so did the audience according to Rate the Runway..
Mizsissy
-
ALERT....Project Runway Show 5 debuts tonite at 10 pm!!!
-
I'll be watching! I'll miss Chris though, I was sorry to see him go
.
Pat
-
Woohoo...you might be in for a little surprise!!!
-
It was a surprise, I'm glad he's back! Hopefully he'll be able to hang in a while longer. It was too bad about Jack though.
-
I loved Chris...he seemed like so much fun and I was glad he came back, even though his design was pretty awful...but Geez, he had to stay up all night. I was *very sorry* about Jack (isn't he the lingerie designer?!). I've really been liking his designs, I think he designed my favorite red dress up there. Anyway...who knows what's going to happen on this show?!! Maybe he'll be back, if not this year some other time.
The heavyweight loss makeover was a bit of a disappointment to me. Only two of three of the contestants actually improved the appearance of their models and I think Chris's outfit was clearly the best. But those short strappy above the knee dresses don't do anything for heavy women with big knees and arms!!!
I still think Elisa has immunity...look at her face during the judging, she may act worried, but she's really NOT!!! This whole thing is fixed!!
My personal favorites for winning the competition are Rami, Victorya, Sweet Pea, and of course dark horse Elisa...what da yall think?!!
Mizsissy
-
Anybody see last night's show besides me?!! Well, 10 pm is a little late, and a little inconvenient when there are all those football games. And all this craziness about starting the series, then stopping it for the holidays and starting it again...very disruptive!!!
Well, so much for my Dark Horse theory...Elisa was AUFED!! I felt bad about it, especially after she explained about her disastrous accident being hit by a car and recovering. I really wanted to see that snooty gal who's so bossy...Victorya? Is that her name...the grey and white ruffles. I thought that one should have gone instead.
My current favorite is now Sweet Pea. She seems so earnest and determined, and her designs are always interesting...but they're all so good I hate to see anyone leave.
Mizsissy
-
Sweet pea is one of my favorites too and Cristian is also growing on me. I think the current frontrunners are Jillian, Rami, and Cristian.
I have to agree about Victorya....she's beyond annoying. I still like Chris too but I don't know that he and Sweet Pea can make it til the end.

Glad I found this. PR is my favorite. My SIL, neice, daughter and I actually visited Mood FAbrics in NY during a taping of Season 3. What fun to watch. It looks now like they might close the store when the PR contestants are there.
