"Mini-facelift"
OK, y'all, the description of this new procedure is not for the faint-of-heart, but I thought that those of you who, like myself, might consider some forms of plastic surgery (esp after the number chemo did on our faces) might like to see what's in the pipeline. I first saw this on a news show and thought it sounded amazing! According to the report, it costs anywhere between $3,500-$5,000....not bad for a lifted face, huh? This show then showed the surgeon "tidying up" the rest of the face with Botox. Wow!
Even if you're rabidly anti-PS, ya gotta admit that this is intriguing!

Oh, I've heard of that before. Been out for a few years, I think. It does kind of give you the creeps, doesn't it? LOL Now, that's a joke after what we've already been through.
Seriously, I have recently been thinking of a little "filler" for those comma lines around the mouth. I don't think it costs too much and it's not a big surgery and recovery is fairly quick. I was told there would be bruising for a couple of weeks after the procedure, so you need to plan your social calendar around it.
Gee, maybe it would make a nice Christmas gift for the woman who has everything and is trying to get rid of a lot of it. As in de-cluttering. This could work.

But it says it lasts for '3 to 5 years' - I wonder what it looks like when it all collapses again?

I cannot remember the name of the surgeon in Durham who was recommended to a friend of mine. I do know he's Dr. Georgiade's (my surgeon at Duke) brother-in-law. I don't know if I spelled Dr. "Georgiade" correctly. I could look him up at Duke, but I'm too lazy.
My friend was talking about getting her eyes lifted. She's had a tummy tuck here in Wilmington. I didn't realize that was as painful as it was. And she had to wear drains. THE DREADED DRAINS! Actually, I need a WHOLE body lift.

Oh, ladies, we will just have to learn to embrace our "oldness." LOL I am 60 tomorrow and still standing! I love it!

Shirley....Is it Dr. Michael Zenn? He's the most renowned PS here at Duke, especially for breast reconstruction. Even my docs at UNC recommend him, so you know he's gotta be good if a TarHeel recommends a Dukie!!! He'll surely be my choice if I ever can afford to have 'work done'
. Here's his website:

Tina....I have filler (Restalyne) injected into my nasolabial folds (isn't that term just disgusting?) every 6-8 months and it makes a startling difference. In fact, it makes me look at least 5 years younger instantly (everyone says 10, but I'm trying to be modest
)! It's not cheap at $450-500 a syringe AND you do have bruising for about a week, but it makes me feel so great that it's worth every penny and tiny black-and-blue mark!

Ooooh, Marin, you are a girl after my own heart. So brave in the name of beauty!
Yes, the "folds" description does conjure up some pretty uncomfortable images. EEEEEeeeeee.
Well, you are giving me a little added courage. I will talk to my ps in January when I have my next follow-up. Hmmm. Maybe I can call now and ask if they can add the procedure to my visit so I can save a little on the office visit. I wonder how it is charged out to insurance. If I have it done on a regular visit.
Marin, do you have all the folds done? From nose to corners of mouth and then the ones that go from there down a bit? Those lower ones are the ones that would really make a difference on me.

Tina...My plastic surgeon really examines the entire area very closely and carefully and then maps out the sites for the injections in order to cover as mach territory as needed and avoid areas where it's not needed. I've had this done by a much less experienced aesthetistician before and it was kind of bumpy and choppy, though still an improvement. My new PS though is an artist and does an amzing job! The injections are placed just so under the skin so that they follow the exact line of the wrinkles and when the gel filler is pushed out and massaged, it stays within that area. It's really cool, actually. And as far as pain goes, it's not any worse that a stick into my port (my ex-port, I should say!) and not nearly as stinging as laser hair removal or getting a tattoo (both of which I've also done)!
So, if you can get this done as part of your regular visit, that would be awesome. If not, the company that markets Restalyne has a rewards program if you get the treatments every 6 months. I like to wait until the last minute because of the expense, so I've never been able to take advantage of it.

I call the fold from mouth down as the Howdy Doody look. You know like a puppet. It maked me look as if I was frowning all the time and angry.
My ps injected fat into the edges of my chin and at each end of my lips and the fold is gone. I don't look as scary to small children now. LOL
-
Dotti...Where did the fat come from..another body area of yours or is it a commercial product? And how long does the treatment last?
~Marin
-
No, Marin, the ps is not Dr. Zenn. The doctor I was referring to has a private practice. However, some of my friend's friends have gone to him and had good results. I don't think I could stand the torture! LOL

Fat was from me--when I had the neck lift. That was 3 years ago and still doing well.
-
Dotti,
Is this fat injection thing (to get rid of the "Howdy Doody look") the secret of how young you look in your avatar?? I always thought your avatar was a pic of you when you were a teenager, but i think i recently read a post of yours that said that pic was taken right before your dx of bc. Sheesh!! you look 13 years old in your avatar!!! Wow!!!!

Wow, made MY Day or week. Thanks so much! My poor daughter is forever being mistaken for my sister, bless her heart. But she will appreciate it in the decades to come, we have my Mom's good skin and never went out in the sun--burn too easily.
As far as the pic goes--it was at a great angle, looking up--hey that streaches out the wrinkles and extra skin beautifully!
That's why I used that pic. I really liked it.
I am fortunate that I've been thought of as much younger for a long time. I guess the fat pushes out the wrinkles, LOL. When I retired, some of my customers/providers, whom I'd only talked with on the phone, were amazed at my age, they thought I was some 30 year old genius since I was really good at my job. LOL, and here I was with 43 years of experience! Guess I have a young sounding voice, too. Of course, mentally, I'm still 32 and will always feel that way.
-
Dotti,
Double wow!!!
I have good skin too and used to look lots younger than my age, but---- i think it has caught up with me now. My mother looked 70-75 when she was 93. I am not going to be so lucky. You really do look great!!!!
