A/C versus Taxol/Herceptin
Hi Ladies,
Just wondering if anybody has any insight on the difference between A/C treatments and Taxol/Herceptin treatments? I have received two A/C treatments and have been really nauseous afterwards for 3-4 days and I'm wondering (hoping) if Taxol will be any better? I'm prepared for the weight gain with taxol but would like to avoid the extreme nausuea if anyone has any ideas.

Hi Suze:
I had 4 AC followed by 4 Taxol. Then I took Herceptin for a year. I had a lot of nausea and acid reflux with the AC. I had no nausea whatsoever with the Taxol but I developed neuropathy in my fingers and toes. It was worse with eact Taxol treatment and took a long time to get better. It has not gotten completely better. I noticed no side effects from Herceptin except fatigue. However, the fatigue was much less than when I was on chemo. Hope this helps.

Hello Suze,
I had 4 dd AC and have completed 4 of weekly Taxol and Herceptin with 8 more to go. I will still have nine more months of Herceptin after the Taxol. But, the Taxol/Herceptin have been much easier than the AC for me. I have some fatigue on days 3 & 4 but no nausea or other funky side effects.
I have had some numbness in my toes recently and hope it doesn't get a whole lot worse. For me, overall, Taxol/Herceptin has been very easy, I hope this is the case for you.

Hi Suze,
I did 4 DD rounds of AC and am in the midst of weekly Taxol/Herceptin. The Taxol is much easier for me than AC. I never really got nauseous on AC, but I always felt a little off in the whole digestion thing and the last round was especially hard for me with fatigue, mouth sores, etc. I've had no nausea at all with Taxol, or any of the mouth sores. It has given me a few minor muscle aches and pains, but weekly is supposedly a lot easier to take. Less problems with neuropathy, etc. I just finished #7 of 12 and I'm still feeling pretty good - working mostly full time and walking a couple miles a day. I get fatigued a bit on day 3 after tx, but mostly doing allright. I hope it all goes smoothly for you!

AC was the worst part of treatment for my wife. Taxol was much easier. The only thing that worked for my wife was Zofran IV. It was a lifesaver. Nothing else worked. If one treatment doesn't work for you, don't be afraid to ask for another.

I am doing A/C up to round 3 soon. Found the first round knocked me around a bit, but the 2nd one was a bit better. The hospital gave me Somec to take for the reflux and nausea and this helped heaps, better then upping my steriods which i refused to do. Still have taxol and hercpectin to do yet but it sounds encouraging to know that it can be easier.Always willing to try new things, thanks for all your information on treatments. Take care all.

Thanks Everybody.......It sounds like I will have an easier time with Taxol/Herceptin thank God. I did get Imend last time which helped some but still needed to take decadron/zofran/compazine for four days afterwards until the nausea passed completely. For somebody who never took pills before I feel like a junky!! Incidentally, I have heard that pomegranate juice can help with neuropathy....I guess it's worth a try when and if the time comes. Suze

Hello,
My mom is on Taxol/Herceptin she has no side effects at all. The first time she had chemo with her first cancer she had A/C and it put her in the hospital after 2 doses. She was so sick she didn't leave her house for 4 months. It was the worst experience she has ever had. But with her mets she is on Taxol/Herceptin/Zometa and she is doing great, you wouldnt think she was on chemo at all. She lost her hair of course, but she did so on A/C also.

Is it really true you gain weight with taxol. Why is this so? I've lost weight with a/c ( which i needed to) don't want to get it back!
