I can call and make reservations. So Papa Vino's Sat. November 6. How does 12:30 sound? Reservations for 10 should cover everyone? Let me know. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Lorrie (actually Lorraine, from Shelby)
-
Sounds good to me!
-
OMG... Soooo sorry I forgot to mention Michelle and Pam , and I knew you guys were going, too...I was trying to recall everyone by memory.
See you all on Saturday!
Judy -
My family and I will be in Michigan for our sons hockey tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are staying in a Holiday Inn, according to my husband(and much to his chagrin), near one of the largest malls in Michigan. I would love to try to join you all and will get more details to you later today. Hope you don't mind to much if a poor Ohio girl would crash your party but would look forward to meeting people that have been there done that. Not sure how husband would feel but will discuss it with him!
-
Jon,
We would love to have you join us! I am trying to think what Holiday Inn you will be staying at. We have several malls in the area..what city will you be staying in?
Lorrie -
Hi Gals, I made reservations for 10 at Papa Vino's for 12:30 under the name of Lorraine. Of course if our number increases I can always call them back.

Just took a look at my husband's email. The Holiday Inn is in Fairlane-Dearborn. Is this anywhere doable?
-
Jon,
It would be great to meet you. I think it is doable, about 12 miles - straight up M39. For the Detroit area, it's not that bad!
We work fast when we have a plan! See you all Saturday. -
Jon--here are directions & a map. It is doable--would take you less than 25 minutes, straight up the road more or less! We'd love to have you join us! Here is the link-- Mapblast directions Holiday Inn-Fairlane (Detroit/Dearborn border) to Papa Vino's Troy

Son has been playing hockey since age four. We get to Michigan fairly frequently in the winter. I suspect this winter with chemo I may not want to go as frequently (or New York,Ontario, Illinois or Pennsylvania). I would be delighted to get together for lunch with you all just to meet people that have been there. I have been to Troy to that Hockeytown shoppe and that spectular ice rink/soccerfield complex. Hate to feel like a country bumpkin but that Saks, Nordstrom complex was truly impressive. Thanks for the directions!
-
That is Somerset Mall with Sak's & Nordstrom's. I still haven't been there LOL. You will NOT be as impressed with Fairlane Town Center LOL. That is near my old childhood stomping grounds of Dearborn & Dearborn Heights.
You will find more than enough familiar & family-type restaurants in the area of the hotel. On the Holiday Inn's side of M-39 (also called Southfield Rd) on both Ford Road and Michigan Avenue are LOTS of restaurants and shopping.
I know of a GREAT little German restaurant, Richter's Chalet, (whose owner is a pastry chef by trade) that makes a PHENOMENAL Beef Wellington (filet mignon in a puff pastry). All the desserts are to DIE for (chocolate mousse in a chocolate cup, hazelnut mousse with raspberries, pies, tortes...). My hubby & I drive 50 miles roundtrip to eat there. Very reasonable, too. The most expensive thing is that Wellington at around $15 for the whole dinner (soup/salad, side dish, wonderful homemade bread & entree). Meals are $7-15, I think. Kids menu is 4 or 5 bucks. They only serve the Wellington at dinnertime, after 4pm
They have different specials everyday, but also have fish, chicken, pork, veal, beef, traditional sausages dishes. Soup is great. It is a couple miles from the hotel, on Michigan avenue at Telegraph Road.
Yum, I am drooling. Time to drag the family there LOL
Hope you can join us Sat!
Hugs, MIchele -
Hey Michelle,
That is MY old childhood stomping ground! That German restaurant sounds wonderful. I'm suddenly starving. A place that I will drive 50 miles to is Cedarland for authentic Mid East food. When I worked in Dearborn, we would take turns going to pick up an order every Friday. We would try to get the garlic sauce recipe from them! I mean we even stooped so low as to say my kid had allergies and had to know what was in it! I don't have kids!
I've never been to Somerset mall either and haven't been to Fairlane in years. It was getting run down last time I was there.
See you soon.
Nancy -
Hi all....I will definately try to be there...I just went back to work and the step-mother hasn't said anything about me working on saturday...so if I don't have to work, then I should be there.... .....
Hugs to you all.....
Candi -
Hope to see you Candi. Has anyone heard from 'Worried in Woodhaven' - Pam? It has been a long time since she checked in. I sent her a private message. I also sent messages to ejs and djh - Donna and luckyanna. I keep adding to this. Let me know if I'm missing anyone who said they were interested.
Judy - have you heard from Gerri, KDJ RN or Alex? -
Hey Nancy.
Pam just wrote on 10/27...she changed her screenname to PamW a while back. I believe she said she'd like to go.
I have not heard back from anyone at all. Of course, some came and posted, so we know they're coming. But no word from anyone else.
See ya Saturday
Judy -
Well, blame it on chemo brain. I do seem to remember her writing about changing her name but didn't make the connection to PamW! Hope to hear from the others who haven't checked in for a while.
Nancy -
On the topic of food in Dearborn....let us not forget Millers!!! Worlds best burgers, it's all they serve, but have a line to be seated every nite. Still on the honor system when you pay, you just go tell the bartender what you had. Not the fanciest place in town, but good!
Judy -
Sounds like a hockey club dream place to eat. Please let me know where Millers is. Thanks!
-
It is on Michigan Ave., on the north side, between Outer drive and Telegraph. Keep in mind it is a bar, although we take our kids to eat there and so do others...it seems like most people are there to eat, not 'party', so it's still kid-friendly. Try to get there early, before 6pm to avoid long waits, especially on weekends.
See you Saturday

Lorraine (Shelby Twp) -

Hi all:
I have been out of town for the last week. I plan on coming tomorrow. Pap Gino's sounds good. I am looking forward to seeing you all. Thanks for thinking of me.
Pam -
Debra emailed me and said that she is moving tomorrow...so I guess she won't make it.
Update: she might make it after all!
Judy -
Good morning all,
I am sorry but I will not be able to make the lunch today. I am working all day today...getting ready for a vacation next Friday. I hope to attend the next meeting. Can't wait to hear all about it...have fun today ladies!
Chris -
Hi Gals,
Enjoyed meeting everyone and I will post pictures within the next couple days!! Let's do it again in Jan.!
Lorraine -
It was great meeting all of you yesterday. Thank you for inviting me. You were all very encouraging & I appreciate your putting up with me in person as well as on line.
-
Loved meeting you all! It was GREAT!
-
I was soooo glad to finally be able to put faces to names! Even though I'd seen pictures of the last gathering, meeting you face to face made it more concrete for me.
I look forward to getting together again in January after the holidays!
Hugs, Michele -
Hi girls!
I had a great time on Saturday! It is fun to meet everyone, and feel as if we 'know' who we are talking to online! Can't wait to see the pics. I think January would be good for another get together. Debra and Lorie and Candi...we'll see you guys at that one if we have to drive you there ourselves!!! (hope you're feeling better, Debra)
Jon: it was wonderful that you made it down from Ohio, and to meet you!
Anna: I'm glad you had a good time! It was nice to meet you...I can tell you are a great teacher, your students are very lucky.
Honestly, what a great bunch of women, so full of life and so upbeat. It does one good to have these get togethers, really.
Hugs

Oh yeah...some of you were interested in ordering the Avon breast cancer ornament...here is the link if you want to order if from Avon.com, it will ship right to you. It's $7.50
www.avon.com
Put Breast Cancer in the search box...it was on page 3.
I do not get anything for the sale of bc items, but if you want, you can still put my number in to help move me up to the next level (someday! ). If you want my number, pm me, I'll give it to you. If not, that's fine too.
It looks like shipping is $5.95, that's a bit steep. If anyone wants me to order it for them, shipping would be free, but we'd have to meet up for delivery.
