Chest MRI

Hi all,

I just had my one year follow up breast/chest MRI. The report was good and stated that there was no evidence of metastasis or masses in the chest. All great to hear!

My question is, would this imaging study include the upper/middle spine as well? I sometimes get a kind of "catch"/pain in the middle of my back between my lungs that feels like it might have to do with my spine. If the MRI is normal, do I need to worry?

I just hate worrying about every ache and pain, but I guess that is how it is going to be for awhile.

    Thanks, Cyndi

    Hi Cyndi,

Although I think a chest MRI might include the area you are talking about, I doubt if the radiologist would be looking as closely at your spine if the MRI was ordered for breast/chest. Still, anything grossly abnormal should show up. A complete spinal MRI is quite an ordeal--mine lasted nearly 2 hours!

If you keep having the "catch" feeling, it might put your mind at ease to go ahead and ask for a bone scan. They aren't terribly expensive (especially in comparison to a PET or MRI) and your whole body will be scanned.

Worrying comes along with the territory, I'm afraid! Chances are that what you are feeling has nothing to do with cancer!
