Since chemo messes with our immune system, I'm betting you need to wait until after your body has recouped from the chemo. What do you want to get on your ankle? I would kind of like to have the pink ribbon.

was planning on getting a hummingbird or a pink ribbon with a hummingbird holding up one end of the ribbon. it will go on my ankle. thank you for your advice.

I was advised to avoid tattoos during chemo because of the potential for infection. I ultimately decided against another tattoo (I already have 3), but had to have my shoulder one re-done because rads fried it. I had it embellished in a big way and love it even more now!
BTW, a great site for ideas is http://www.tattoojohnny.com/tattoo-design-gallery.asp?k=pink%20ribbon

i think the wise choice is to wait till you are healed...tats need a strong immune system....so meanwhile, just dream up those cool images you want on your bod....i have three...while i was at my 'sickest' my baby brother got a huge pink ribbon on his forearm intertwined with holly leaves and berries...such a loving tribute...

I have been thinking for a while now about getting a tattoo of a pink ribbon with a hummingbird somehow intertwined with it. Do you by chance have any drawings to share?
-
I had to wait till all treatments were done and then I got my 2.
-
no, i dont have any pictures to show you. my friend collects hummingbirds, so that is where i got my idea from.
-
I'd wait. I had one done before I started chemo and it was well healed by the start of treatment but I'd be concerned about infection while on chemo.
-
Just a question for juanita63, how long after your chemo did you have your tattoo done?? i finished Chemo 5 weeks ago and am wanting to get it asap...
-
I've been wanting to do the tat thing myself, but I'm done with chemo and getting ready to start radiation..should I wait until after that's done too? I'm planning on getting a pink ribbon, above it the word "victory" and below it the day all treatments are done.

Well, I look at it this way, the PS wants to tatoo my nipples after Christmas and that will be four months after chemo. What's good for my nipples must be O.K. for the rest of the body!

It had been over a year since chemo and about 6 months after herceptin when I got my tattoos. My blood counts were good though. Check with your onc first.

I got mine on the second anniversary of my diagnosis. I got a bridge tattooed above my ankle -- it represents passage to a better place and an oongoing journey. I think you should wait for several reasons. First, your body is going through a lot as it is. Second, it might be nice to devote your full attention to the choice and process of getting the tattoo, which you can't really do withe verything that is going on. Finally, choosing a tattoo is a big decision and probably you should put off major decisions while going through treatment.
How about your one year cancerversary? -
I am a 10 year survivor. My daughter and i just went and got matching tattoos on our ankle's. That's what she wanted for Christmas. She is the light that pulled me through. Please wait till your body is strong. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.
I love my tattoo. Just a simple pink ribbon with the word hope. If you go on line there are lots of photo of them some with humming birds

Wow - congrats on 10 years!! You rock!

I had a butterfly made out of a pink ribbon (the SIS logo). I had it put on my lower back for my three year cancerversary. Today is 5 years Yipee!!

I had my tattoo 1yr after my chemo. It was a gift from my sister. She knew how depressed I was with the way my breast looked, I had a tram flap. So now I have the most beautiful orchid covering my breast...I always have a smile for everyone

I got this on Sunday..I waited 5 yrs

Fantastic! Hardtail, that is a beauty!
I am approaching my one year and still thinking about my breast tattoo. I have a couple others elsewhere on my body.
Surfups, is yours on your boob and how did it feel when being done? Dare you share a picture with us? If you care to, you can always PM me. bomber410@yahoo.com.
Once I am ready, meaning other distractions have subsided, I want to figure something out in a design that uses my scars in the design.
Tattoos are a bit addicting.

I too would love a tat on my breast. Has anyone got one with implant?
Thanks,
JMJ
Also, I live in Boston area--any recommendations on Tattoo artists?
Thanks for the website for ideas.

I did one on my arm the one i had all the nodes removed and oh i had a hard time with it, wait I say...

I had eyeliner and eyebrows done a couple of years before dx. Laughed when I told the onc my eyebrows would not be gone after chemo. They call it permanent make up, but it's just tats. Love it btw.
