After my weekly infusion I get heartburn and backaches in lower back. I can't sleep that night due to steriods in pre-meds. Asked to lower it but it still doesn't help, I am so wired. Tried Tylenol P.M. but didn't work. I hate to do it, but I am asking next time for a Rx for sleeping pills as I am going back to work and need to sleep.
I have gained 20 pounds through all this and even though I have cut back on portions, cut out sweets, it is not leaving

I get the heartburn in the days right after my infusion, but I have the lower backache all the time.
I have to take gabapentin for leg neuropathy, and ativan for sleep. I'm also on Prozac so I can cope with this whole thing.
I'm steadying losing weight, a pound or 2 a week, even though I'm not trying to. I have very little appetite now. I have weight to lose though, so I'm not alarmed.

I do get back pain for about 1 week or so after my treatments. I also have diarrhea for about a week and foot cramps. The biggest thing I have noticed though, is the loss of appetite. I loose about 2-3 pounds the first two weeks after treatments, then gain it back again right before I go for my treatment.
Anyone on something to increase your appetite?
May an angel walk beside you.

Forgot to add, heartburn now most of the time.
Still, better than the chemo!

miss-di, you are right! Still way better than chemo!

I have a question about the back pain. I was thinking about getting a hot tub to help with back pain. I know during rads you can not go in the hot tub can you when doing hercptin?????

ooh when it comes to appetite im the opposite i have a real good appetite and have gained quite a lot of weight since finishing chemo last May, when i was on chemo managed to loose loads which i needed to now piled it straight back on again im blaming the Heceptin but i think im making excuses however i do feel bloated a few days after my infusion.
Also unfortunatley got my periods back and that dosent help either.

I seem to be gaining more weight, as I reach the Herceptin finish line. 13 of 18 are done. Any suggestion?

i had a year of herceptin and just started again yesterday for progression. i have to honestly say i pretty much have no side effects at all...perhaps a little washed out feeling day after and sometimes sob. any effects i get is basically from the sterioid prior to treatment. i gained weight on chemo but not on herceptin (of course didn't lose any either).

Hello to all,
I too have aches but they aren't limited to my back. They are pretty much everywhere. Last Wednesday I received my last Herceptin treatment and I'm anxious to know when I won't feel those aches anymore.
As for hot tubs, I thought I was restricted because of lymph nodes being removed as well as the immune system vunerability during chemo. So I am under the impression that public hot tubs will be off limits always. Maybe someone can add thoughts to that impression of mine.
I did gain weight during Herceptin only treatments, but not as much as I thought could happen. It was under 10 pounds. Getting that weight off(and more) is my next physical challenge.
Keep trudging on to the finish line.
It is a great place to be!
